La visione geopolitica ed ecclesiologica di Giovanni Paolo II. Tra Italia e Polonia la svolta di Wojtyla per la chiesa italiana nel gennaio 1985

    No full text
Starting from a confidential conversation that the pontiff had in January 1985 with the leaders of the Italian church, the essay examines the geopolitical and ecclesiological vision of John Paul II. In this document emerge some judgments of the pope on Italian and international communism, on capitalism and on the mission of the church in Italy and in the world. This meeting took place in the most delicate phase of the Second Cold War and was connected both with the difficult situation in Poland (and Solidarność) and with the attempt to relaunch the DC in Italy. In this sense, the dual role played, at that time, by Andreotti as foreign minister of the Craxi government and as historical leader of the Italian Catholic party is very important

Healing Kinetics of Sinus Lift Augmentation Using Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Granules: A Case Series in Humans

    No full text
Sinus augmentation provides a well-established model for investigating the three-dimensional morphometry and macromolecular dynamics of bone regeneration, particularly when using biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) graft substitutes. This case series included six biopsies from patients who underwent maxillary sinus augmentation using BCP granules composed of 30% hydroxyapatite (HA) and 70% β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP). Bone core biopsies were obtained at healing times of 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months. Histological evaluation yielded qualitative and quantitative insights into new bone distribution, while micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and Raman microspectroscopy (RMS) were employed to assess the three-dimensional architecture and macromolecular composition of the regenerated bone. Micro-CT analysis revealed progressive maturation of the regenerated bone microstructure over time. At 6 months, the apical regenerated area exhibited a significantly higher mineralized volume fraction (58 ± 5%) compared to the basal native bone (44 ± 11%; p = 0.0170), as well as significantly reduced trabecular spacing (Tb.Sp: 187 ± 70 μm vs. 325 ± 96 μm; p = 0.0155) and degree of anisotropy (DA: 0.37 ± 0.05 vs. 0.73 ± 0.03; p < 0.0001). By 12 months, the mineralized volume fraction in the regenerated area (53 ± 5%) was statistically comparable to basal bone (44 ± 3%; p > 0.05), while Tb.Sp (211 ± 20 μm) and DA (0.23 ± 0.09) remained significantly lower (Tb.Sp: 395 ± 41 μm, p = 0.0041; DA: 0.46 ± 0.04, p = 0.0001), indicating continued structural remodelling and organization. Raman microspectroscopy further revealed dynamic macromolecular changes during healing. Characteristic β-TCP peaks (e.g., 1315, 1380, 1483 cm−1) progressively diminished over time and were completely absent in the regenerated tissue at 12 months, contrasting with their partial presence at 6 months. Simultaneously, increased intensity of collagen-specific bands (e.g., Amide I at 1661 cm−1, Amide III at 1250 cm−1) and carbonate peaks (1065 cm−1) reflected active matrix formation and mineralization. Overall, this case series provides qualitative and quantitative evidence that bone regeneration and integration of BCP granules in sinus augmentation continues beyond 6 months, with ongoing maturation observed up to 12 months post-grafting

Feline Calicivirus Infection: Current Understanding and Implications for Control Strategies

    No full text
Feline calicivirus (FCV) is a highly contagious pathogen widely circulating in cat populations. FCV has been shown to be able to evade the host immune response through different mechanisms. As a result, following the acute phase of infection, some cats remain persistently infected or experience reinfection cycles with variants of the same strain or with distinct field FCVs. These animals may become asymptomatic carriers, assuming a critical role in virus transmission and posing a significant risk to susceptible cats, particularly in high-density settings. Typical clinical signs of FCV infection include upper respiratory tract disease, oral ulcerations, salivation, and gingivostomatitis. In some cases, FCV infection has also been linked to a range of other clinical manifestations, including severe virulent systemic disease with high mortality rates. Indeed, FCV diversity and evolution have led to the emergence of new genetic, antigenic, and phenotypic variants, challenging disease control. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of FCV, including its molecular biology, epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical manifestations. Additionally, the role of vaccination and direct prophylaxis is critically evaluated. An integrated approach is essential to mitigate FCV transmission and disease burden in feline populations

From cyber security incident management to cyber security crisis management in the European Union

    No full text
Incident management is a classical topic in cyber security. Recently, the European Union (EU) has started to consider also the relation between cyber security incidents and cyber security crises. These considerations and preparations, including those specified in the EU's new cyber security laws, constitute the paper's topic. According to an analysis of the laws and associated policy documents, (i) cyber security crises are equated in the EU to large-scale cyber security incidents that either exceed a handling capacity of a single member state or affect at least two member states. For this and other purposes, (ii) the new laws substantially increase mandatory reporting about cyber security incidents, including but not limited to the large-scale incidents. Despite the laws and new governance bodies established by them, however, (iii) the working of actual cyber security crisis management remains unclear particularly at the EU-level. With these policy research results, the paper advances the domain of cyber security incident management research by elaborating how European law perceives cyber security crises and their relation to cyber security incidents, paving the way for many relevant further research topics with practical relevance, whether theoretical, conceptual, or empirical

Adolescence and online vulnerability: The role of fear of missing out (FoMO): A cross-sectional study during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic

    No full text
The use of social networking sites (SNSs) has increased significantly in recent years, particularly among adolescents. These platforms have profoundly reshaped the way adolescents interact with family, peers, and strangers. However, SNSs may also expose users to specific vulnerabilities, such as victimisation, with detrimental effects on mental health and psychophysical well-being. This study examined the relationship between age and online vulnerability, with a focus on the mediating role of fear of missing out (FoMO). A cross-sectional study was conducted with 360 adolescents (meanage = 16.95 years; SDage = 1.29 years; age range = 14–19 years; 183 females). Results indicated that FoMO mediated the association between age and online vulnerability, suggesting that younger adolescents may be particularly susceptible to online vulnerability due to their heightened FoMO. These findings underscore the importance of addressing emotional and psychological factors in efforts to reduce online vulnerability. Implications for internet literacy education and preventative strategies are discussed, along with limitations and future research directions

Current Enzooticity of Dirofilaria immitis and Angiostrongylus vasorum in Central and Southern Italy

    No full text
Dirofilaria immitis and Angiostrongylus vasorum are major parasitic nematodes of dogs. Many environmental and phenological changes have recently modified their geographic patterns in many countries; thus, this study has updated the distribution of D. immitis and A. vasorum in dog populations of selected regions of Central and Southern Italy. Also, collateral data on other endoparasites affecting the study population have been collected. Blood and fecal samples collected from 2000 dogs were tested using Knott’s test and copromicroscopy (i.e., Baermann’s and fecal flotation tests), respectively. Binomial logistic regression was performed to evaluate statistically significant associations between positivity for D. immitis and/or A. vasorum and potential risk factors. Overall, 35 (1.7%) and 62 (3.1%) dogs were positive for microfilariae of D. immitis and first stage larvae (L1) of A. vasorum, respectively, while 3 (0.1%) were co-infected by both nematodes. Microfilariae of Dirofilaria repens were found in 148 (7.4%) dogs, while at the flotation, eggs of Ancylostomatidae, Trichuris vulpis, and ascarids were found in the feces of 323 (16.5%), 249 (12.4%), and 172 (8.6%), dogs, respectively. Overall, 217 (10.8%) and 44 (2.2%) dogs were positive for eggs of Capillaria aerophila and Capillaria boehmi. The presence of cardiorespiratory clinical signs or non-specific signs, history of travel, and an age of >4 years old were significantly associated with positivity for D. immitis, while A. vasorum was significantly recorded in dogs with cardiorespiratory signs, or with a history of mollusk ingestion or permanent outdoor housing. These results confirm that D. immitis is enzootic in the investigated regions of Central and Southern Italy, even where it was rare/undetected until recently. Indeed, although some dogs positive for D. immitis had a history of travel in enzootic areas, the majority of them were never moved, indicating that they acquired the parasite in the region where they live. Additionally, A. vasorum is stably enzootic in the study areas, as also are other extraintestinal nematodes (i.e., D. repens and C. aerophila) that are more frequently detected today than in the past. A high level of vigilance and routine parasitological screening are necessary, considering the high prevalence of intestinal parasites in owned dogs that are also co-infected by respiratory parasites. The implementation of chemoprevention against D. immitis in dogs living in the examined area should be encouraged
