Explaining Tourism Expenditure Patterns in Italy: A Comparative Study of Domestic and Incoming Tourists Using XGBoost and SHAP
This study introduces a novel approach in analyzing the determinants of tourism expenditure in Italy, with a particular focus on the differences between domestic and incoming tourism. The analysis is based on microdata from two surveys: ISTAT’s “Travels and Holidays” and the Bank of Italy’s “International Tourism”. Expenditure forecasts for both categories were calculated using the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) machine learning algorithm, ensuring high predictive accuracy. To identify the main variables influencing tourism expenditure, SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) values were calculated, providing a deeper interpretation of the contribution of each one of them. The results highlight both differences and common points in the determinants driving domestic and incoming tourism expenditure, underscoring the need for targeted policy interventions to address the distinct characteristics of these two segments. The methodological integration of machine learning techniques and SHAP values offers a tool for understanding and forecasting tourism expenditure trends in Italy, with relevant implications for policymakers and industry stakeholders

Sentix is an affective lexicon for the Italian language, created in 2013, and available via the sentixR R package on GitHub since 2019 (Basile, 2019-2024). Sentix 3.0 represents a major update, incorporating an expanded set of lemmas (63,660 entries), with associated polarity scores (ranging from -1 to +1) and categorical polarity classifications (Positive, Neutral, Negative)

I VATICINIA PONTIFICUM: EDIZIONE, COMMENTO STORICO E CATALOGO
This thesis focuses on the Vaticinia pontificum, a prophetic-escatological work consisting of three illustrated papal prophecies: Genus Nequam (13th-14th century), Ascende Calve (first half of the 14th century) and Vaticinia pontificum (formed from the union of the previous two, dating from the early 15th century). This thesis is the result of an initial comprehensive study, analysed from an interdisciplinary perspective, i.e. from a historical, literary and philological point of view. The corpus comprises around 95 manuscripts and 202 printed editions, many of which have never been published before. The success of the Vaticinia has been colossal: with this research we are offering the scientific community, for the first time, a first recensio of the manuscripts and printed editions, which testifies to the importance that these prophecies had from the end of the Middle Ages onwards.
We intend to continue working on the Vaticinia and, in time, produce a critical edition
