Boken kommer 2.0 : a professional perspective on the updated version of the service Boken kommer within public libraries in Gothenburg

    No full text
This thesis examines the impact of the project Boken kommer 2.0 on librarians’ professional practice within the public library system in Gothenburg, Sweden. In addition to the project's specific influence, the study explores broader organizational changes related to centralization and efficiency measures. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, interviews were conducted with four librarians possessing direct experience of Boken kommer. Several findings emerged from the study. One finding suggests that the professional role of some librarians is expanding, leading to a potential blurring of role boundaries and a less clearly defined professional status. Changes within the organization have enabled several librarians to engage in new additional duties. Competencies linked to the former work practice with Boken kommer appear to be redistributed, rather than being lost. Another finding suggests that librarians may experience a general reduction in competence due to centralization and efficiency measures. Despite these developments, librarians demonstrate a high degree of adaptability and changes are generally met without resistance. This study contributes to the understanding of how structural transformations within public libraries influence professional roles and practices, highlighting the evolving nature of librarianship in response to institutional change. The study confirmes the ongoing discussion about librarians often vague job desciption and indicates a constant professional fluidity, wich may lead to continued difficulties in stablishing librariansship as a recognized profession

Environmental sustainability in the automotive industry

Companies' environmental sustainability efforts have gained increasing influence in today's society and partly shape how customers perceive and relate to brands. This study examines how companies' environmental sustainability efforts affect customer loyalty through semi-structured interviews with thirteen individuals of different ages and backgrounds, in order to gain a deeper understanding of their perceptions. The results show that sustainability is a relevant factor for many consumers, but not a decisive one when it comes to making a purchase decision. Instead, factors such as additional services, product quality, price, and previous experience tend to carry more weight. However, credible and honest sustainability communication can increase trust and thereby strengthen customer loyalty. The study also finds that greenwashing or perceived greenwashing can lead to mistrust and weaker customer relationships. Environmental sustainability thus functions as a contributing factor: not always decisive, but something that can make a difference when basic consumer needs are already met.

System dynamics modeling of projected textile consumption and waste scenario under different circular economy interventions

    No full text
This report uses system dynamics modeling to evaluate the impact of circular economy interventions on textile production and waste management within the European Union (EU). It analyzes material flows in the textile sector from a broad, macro-level perspective, specifically focusing on apparel consumption, and explores various scenarios that include rental, repair, and reuse practices. The report examines different growth patterns in textile consumption/production, with projections indicating that enhanced efforts in textile collection and sorting could significantly reduce unsorted waste. The growth in consumption is assessed using two approaches: one extrapolated from historical data and the other based on anticipated growth outlined in EU reports. In the first scenario, which relies on historical growth, the volume of sorted textile waste is expected to surpass unsorted waste by 2032. In contrast, the second scenario, which anticipates production growth, suggests that improvements in sorting and collection efforts will stabilize the growth of unsorted waste, leading to only a slight increase by 2035 rather than a significant rise.Furthermore, the report highlights crucial differences between these scenarios, particularly in the context of circular interventions such as rental, repair, and reuse practices. It explores the impact of rental and repair interventions on production and waste outcomes at varying substitution rates, providing insights into how these practices can influence overall sustainability in the textile sector.Sustainable clothing future

Does reading promotion promote reading? : A qualitative thesis about school librarians and swedish teachers reading promotive work in lower secondary school

    No full text
Does reading promotion promote reading? This essay explores how school librarians and teachers in Swedish conceptualize, and carry out, reading promotion in lower secondary school, and how they cooperate. Using semi-structured interviews and Gambrell’s (2011) motivation theory, the study finds that reading promotion is seen as important though with a wide range of interpretations from its users. Librarians focus on accessibility and student interest, while teachers often link reading to assessment. Challenges include limited time, resources, and collaboration. Both groups emphasize the influence of home culture and changing reading habits. The study highlights the need for school-wide strategies and leadership to strengthen and sustain reading promotion efforts

The Operating Room Nurse, The Surgical Team and The Instruments : An Integrative Literature Review of Music in the Operating Room Environment

    No full text
Music is commonly used in the operating room to create a positive working environment, yet it may also introduce risks related to communication and patient safety. The operating room nurse plays a key role in sustaining both safety and a caring perioperative atmosphere. The aim of this study was to explore operating room nurses’ and surgical teams’ experiences and perceptions of music during surgery. An integrative literature review was conducted based on eleven scientific articles published between 2015 and 2025, identified through CINAHL, PubMed, and PsycINFO. The studies were carried out in the United States, the United Kingdom, Lebanon, New Zealand, Italy, and Taiwan. Thematic analysis generated two main themes — The positive effects of music in the operating room and When music becomes a problem — along with eight subthemes. Music was generally perceived as beneficial, enhancing well-being, focus, and team cohesion. Low-volume music (60–75 dB(A)) with a calm rhythm was described as supporting concentration and recovery. Challenges arose when music was loud or played during critical phases of surgery, which could disrupt communication and increase the risk of errors. Decisions about music were often made hierarchically, usually by the surgeon, which could create imbalance within the team. Operating room nurses were particularly affected due to their physical position and communication responsibilities. For music to function as a supportive tool, overall noise levels must be reduced. This requires conscious leadership, team involvement in decision-making, and increased awareness of noise exposure through auditory measuring devices and hearing assessments for staff

    Counstruction site cleaning

Cleaning and order at construction sites is something that does not always receive the attention it deserves, despite its direct impact on the work environment and safety. Clear leadership is of great importance in implementing and managing cleaning on the construction site. The study was conducted by interviewing eight respondents through site visits and phone calls. The respondents consisted of three site managers, two foremen, and three skilled workers. During the interview, the respondents were asked to compare a project where cleaning was not prioritized with one where cleaning was a key focus. This made it easy to identify the causes, effects, and consequences of ingrained cleaning and order. Furthermore, this study will explore how cleaning should be planned and led from both the perspectives of site management and skilled workers. The results were based on these eight interviews as well as previous research on how disorder affects an individual’s mental and physical health. The study shows that several factors contribute to order and cleanliness. Cleaning contributes to a better work environment where workers can more easily perform their tasks, morale improves, and team spirit is strengthened. In order to establish a cleaning routine a clear structure is required, which should be the same for everyone, and good planning that allows time for cleaning and follow-up. Communication is key, as clear instructions must be given, and challenges such as language barriers should be taken into account. A well-thought-out workplace layout makes work more efficient, as it facilitates accessibility and makes it easy to dispose of waste and empty containers. The respondents also mentioned two cleaning routines that have worked well. One was during a so-called "workflow sequencing" process, where construction is divided into different phases, with a large focus on individual responsibility for one’s own work environment. The other cleaning routine involved a joint effort where cleaning took place at a predetermined time. Good communication and clear leadership provide the right conditions to carry out tasks correctly. A clean workplace means there are no physical obstacles in the way when skilled workers perform their jobs, leading to higher productivity and safety. It also reduces irritation between colleagues, resulting in a good and safe atmosphere on the construction site. When skilled workers take responsibility and are given the right tools, a domino effect often occurs, leading to a cleaner workplace. For this to happen, the leader must ensure that everyone has the same understanding of what cleaning entails and establish a routine for the skilled workers to work towards a common goal. Finally, planning and logistics are crucial for a clean construction site. They form the foundation for everything to function. There must be a plan for the handling of materials toIIIavoid accidents and disorder. Planning is also the foundation for ensuring the right amount of time is allocated for cleaning and all that it entails

    No full text
Background: Heart failure is a widespread disease that is increasing both in Sweden and globally. The condition is usually chronic and progressive. Self-care in heart failure is considered one of the cornerstones for improving quality of life and reducing the need for hospital admissions. Self-care involves taking responsibility for one’s own health by, for example, taking prescribed medications and/or engaging in physical activity. Primary health care is responsible for managing heart failure care that does not require specialist intervention. The district nurse in primary health care has a central role and expertise in health promotion and preventive work. Aim: To illuminate district nurses’ experiences of supporting self-care among patients with heart failure in primary health care. Method: A qualitative literature review with a systematic approach. A structured search using combined search blocks was conducted in the databases CINAHL, PubMed, and Web of Science. Fifteen scientific articles were analyzed and synthesized through thematic analysis. Results: The findings are presented in two main themes: Enhancing the patient’s abilities and Favorable conditions and new tools for the district nurse. Each main theme consists of three subthemes. Conclusion: Knowledge about heart failure needs to be strengthened among district nurses in primary health care. Providing individualized education with a reflective approach is considered to promote self-care in patients with heart failure. The patient’s engagement and motivation are crucial for effective self-care and can be strengthened through a good care relationship. The involvement of family members is also seen as enhancing the patient’s ability to perform self-care.

Public librarians' experiences of systematic work environment management to prevent threats and violence

    No full text
This study investigates how public librarians in five Swedish municipalities experience systematic work environment management aimed at preventing threats and violence. The analysis is based on five focus groups with fifteen participants and draws on theories of safety culture, psychological safety and silence culture to explore how these factors shape perceptions of security. The findings suggest a gradual shift from reactive measures to more structured and integrated practices within the participating organizations, including planning tools, risk assessments and incident reporting. Preventive measures such as physical adjustments, technical solutions, staffing strategies and repeated training were described as most effective when combined with organizational and collegial support. Participants also reported a changed view of the professional role and clearer boundaries regarding threats and violence. While openness to discuss risks has increased, silence culture and uneven implementation remain challenges. The results highlight the importance of strong leadership, continuous learning and sustained follow-up to maintain improvements over time

Physicians' decision making when weaning patients from mechanical ventilation: A qualitative content analysis

    No full text
Background: Weaning from mechanical ventilation is a complex and central intensive care process. This complexity indicates that the challenges of weaning must be explored from different perspectives. Furthermore, physicians' experiences and the factors influencing their decision-making regarding weaning are unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to explore and describe the factors influencing physicians' decision-making when weaning patients from invasive mechanical ventilation in Swedish intensive care units (ICUs). Methods: This qualitative study used an exploratory and descriptive design with qualitative content analysis. Sixteen physicians from five ICUs across Sweden were purposively included and interviewed regarding their weaning experiences. Findings: The physicians expressed that prioritising the patient's well-being was evident, and there was agreement that both the physical and mental condition of the patient had a substantial impact on decision-making. Furthermore, there was a lack of agreement on whether patients should be involved in the weaning process and how their resources, needs, and wishes should be included in decision-making. In addition, there were factors not directly linked to the patient but which still influenced decision- making, such as the available resources and teamwork. Sometimes, it was difficult to point out the basis for decisions; in that decisions were made by gut feeling, intuition, or clinical experience. Conclusion: Physicians' decision-making regarding weaning was a dynamic process influenced by several factors. These factors were related to the patient's condition and the structure for weaning. Increased understanding of weaning from the physicians' and ICU teams' perspectives may improve the weaning process by broadening the knowledge about the aspects influencing the decision-making.
