    This study is based on the lessons gathered by the German infantry between 1941-45 in the east. It explains German doctrine on the mission and organization during this time, and brings that doctrine up to date on the basis of combat experience against the Russians. It ends with a proposal for an infantry regiment suitable for combat in eastern Europe. "The fighting against the Russians was the most difficult and bitter fighting which the German infantry experienced in World War II. Infantry forces that can defeat the Russians will therefore also be a match for any other foe.
