Connor Barth

Connor Thomas Barth (1986- ) has been a placekicker for the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 2009. He attended John T. Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC, where he had one of the most impressive high school kicking careers in the state. He was considered one of the best kickers in the country at that time. He then went to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where he received honorable mention in the All-ACC in 2004, and was on the first team All-ACC in 2007
Derick G. S. Davis

Derick G. S. Davis (1920-2004) was born in Richmond, VA, and lived in Wilmington, NC. He was Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), and retired from the university in 1991. He was instrumental at UNCW in developing the curriculum in Parks and Recreation. Before that he was employed by the City of Wilmington for 20 years. He was the first African American to serve as the head of a municipal Parks and Recreation Department in the south. He was also the first African American elected President of the North Carolina Recreation and Park Society. When he left the city to work at the university, the City Council voted to name a newly constructed community center the Derick G. S. Davis Community Center. He was the recipient of many honors and awards, including the National Recreation and Parks Association's Award for Service to the Southern Region. He also served on a number of local, state, and national committees such as the Arts Council of the Lower Cape Fear

Tamera Young (1986- ) is a native of Wilmington, NC. She went to E. A. Laney High School, where she was a basketball stand-out. She went to James Madison University for college, where she set a Colonial Athletic Association scoring record of 2,121 points. She has played five seasons in the Women's National Basketball Association. She was drafted 8th pick overall in the 2008 draft

Bertha Boykin Todd & Rosalind Moore Mosley

Bertha Boykin Todd (1929- ) is a native of Sampson County, NC as well as an author, educator and civil rights leader. She was the librarian in 1952 at then all-black Williston High School, and helped to integrate the Wilmington YMCA. She was co-chairman for the Foundation observing the 1898 Riot Centennial. She has served on a variety of local, state, and national boards dealing with education and the promotion of equal rights during desegregation, and has recieved many awards for her efforts.
Rosalind Moore Mosley (1941-2012) was born in Wilmington, NC and is a member of Chestnut Street Presbyterian Church

David Archie Norris (1944- ) is a lecturer, historian, genealogist, author and artist in Wilmington. He has published a book and many magazine articles on the Civil War, particularly concerning events in North Carolina. He is a past president of the Cape Fear Civil War Round Table, and currently has his art displayed at the WHQR radio station

Maritime Day is a United States holiday created to recognize the maritime industry, usually celebrated in May. Norman R. Holden (1937- ) served as Mayor and Alderman of Southport on and off for over twenty years, until he decided not to run for re-election in 2007. Harper Peterson (1948- ) also served as Mayor and on the city council of Wilmington. He also has owned several popular local businesses
