She graduated from East Carolina University, and worked for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad Company for several years. (Duncan) Murray Barefoot (1932-2004) was a graduate of Presbyterian Junior College and the University of South Carolina. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery

Eddie Wilcox (1907-1968) was from Method, NC (Wake County). He attended Fisk University and was a well known jazz pianist and arranger. After the death of Jimmie Lunceford in 1947, he was the co-leader of his orchestra. The Jimmie Lunceford Orchestra came to Wilmington, NC several times, and in 1948 under Eddie Wilcox's direction they played at Lumina Pavilion.
Joe Thomas (1909-1984) was a swing jazz trumpeter, one of the most popular in the 1930s. He also played in the Jimmie Lunceford Orchestra

James Burton Walton went to Isaac Bear Memorial School and New Hanover High School Class of 1939. He was a Field Artillery Liaison pilot during World War II, and in his later years volunteered at the Wilmington Railroad Museum, the Wilmington Airport information desk, and the Local History Room at the New Hanover County Public Library
Donora Smog Victims

In late October of 1948, a rare weather condition caused pollution from the smokestacks at Donora Zinc Works to hover over the town of Donora, PA, instead of drifting into the upper atmosphere. Twenty people died and more than 6,000 became sick before the heavy smog dispersed. Yi LeGwin and Billy Broadfoot, Wilmington businessmen, initiated a plan to invite some of the survivors to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine at Wrightsville Beach, NC. Many people rallied together to treat forty of the sickest smog survivors from Donora to a week-long vacation at the beach. The smog incident prompted the federal government to begin regulating air quality, leading to the Clean Air Act and other regulations
