John G. Barrett Interview
John G. Barrett was born in 1921 in Gastonia, North Carolina. In 1942 he joined the U. S. Naval Reserves and was commissioned following his graduation from Wake Forest University. Barrett served in the Pacific Theater on the LCI(L)-1052 (Landing Craft Infantry Large). He was discharged in 1946 and enrolled in graduate school, receiving a PhD in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Barrett was a Professor of History at the Virginia Military Institute from 1953 until his retirement in 1987
Vernon Good Interview
Vernon Good served with the U.S. Marines from September of 1950 through November of 1951, at Inchon – Seoul Campaign, Wonsan Hungnam Chosin Campaign, North Korea. He received the Korean Service Medal with the Silver Star, the National Defense Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation (3 times), the United Nations Service Medal and the Korea Presidential Unit Citation – Foreign (2 times). Chris Gray Interview
LT Gray graduated from the Naval Academy in 2001. He subsequently reported to Nuclear Power School. Following Power School, he went to Prototype in Charleston, South Carolina. He was first assigned to the U.S.S. Tennessee in Kings Bay, Georgia. LT Gray spent three years on board the Tennessee and was an instructor with VMI’s Naval ROTC program. Demetrius Lypka Interview
Demetrius "Pete" Lypka was born in New Jersey in 1918 and enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1941. He was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, 16th Infantry, Company G and served until the end of the war, seeing action in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Sgt. Lypka was discharged in July 1945 and returned home to start a career as a carpenter. This interview covers the entire period of his service
