Charles McKellar Interview
Charles W. McKellar served with the ATS from 1944 – 1945, the United States Marine Corps from 1945 – 1949 and from 1951 – 1966, and with the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1949 – 1951. This interview primarily covers his experiences in the Korean War
Eugene Ostlund Interview
Eugene Ostlund enlisted in the Navy in 1940, went through boot camp at Great Lakes, and qualified for a Class A school, attending Aviation Metalsmith School in Pensacola, Florida. He was subsequently sent to Naval Air Station, North Island, where he stayed until 1943, and was then transferred to a carrier aircraft service unit. He later qualified for the Navy V-12 program and enrolled in the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and the University of Michigan. In 1947 he was commissioned an ensign in the regular Navy. He served on board the Navy cruiser U.S.S. St. Paul; on the staff of the Commander Seventh Fleet operating in Korean waters; on board the U.S.S. Gearing (DD710), a destroyer which operated in the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean where he was the communication officer and the operations officer; on the Haas (DE424), home-ported in New Orleans; and as commanding officer of the U.S.S. Lansing (DER 328), based in Honolulu (its mission involved the seaward extension of the DEW [Distant Early Warning] line). Upon completion of that tour of duty he was assigned to the Command and Staff College of the Air Force Air University in Maxwell Field in Montgomery, Alabama, after which he was assigned to the Defense Communication Agency in Washington, D.C. Ronald Ray Interview
Ronald Ray (COL USMCR, RET) was born in Kentucky in 1942 and graduated from Centre College and the University of Louisville School of Law. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1964 and spent the next five years on active duty. He was deployed to the Dominican Republic, the Caribbean, and served as an advisor in Vietnam from March 1967-March 1968. COL Ray served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense during the Reagan administration, on two presidential commissions, and as a military historian at the U. S. Marine Corps Historical Center
Jack Talbot Interview
Jack Talbot grew up in New Jersey and was working as a riveter when he was drafted in 1942. He shipped overseas in March 1943 and was assigned as a radioman at Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry. Mr. Talbot's unit served in North Africa, Sicily, France and Germany until the end of the War
James Wicker Interview
James Wicker entered the Navy in 1979, serving on deployments to the Persian Gulf as an XO to a minesweeper during the Iran-Iraq War, and deployed to the Mediterranean, the Pacific and Indian Oceans. During his career he served on board the USS Goldsborough, the USS Sides, the USS Elusive, and the USS Bainbridge. This interview covers his Navy career
