Notizie sull’esercizio dell’arte tipografica in un trattatello teologico-morale di Giuseppe da Novi.
A short chapter on the men who worked in printing houses from a seventeenth-century moral treatise is here published and presented. The author, Giuseppe da Novi, a Capuchin monk, shows himself to be well-informed about the working practices, on occasion fraudulent, which took place in printing houses. His text constitutes first-hand evidence of activities which book historians have had to reconstruct using other methods
Interests and stability or ideologies and order in contemporary world politics
Drawing upon a career's worth of both theoretical and empirical research, according to the Italian school of political science, the author provides a holistic assessment of contemporary world politics in this volume. The book commences by defining some concepts like "world order", namely a governance process with fixed values: during the post-1989 era those of market, democracy and peace. Foreign policies are then classified into four models of political cultures: the "interests-intensive" conservative, the "ideologies-intensive" liberal, leftist constructivist and leftist Manichaean. The author shows how multipolar and bipolar systems have been relatively stable, with each main power defending its own interests yet ultimately not promoting ideas and order. Change periods are unstable. Between 1915 and 1945, Nazi-fascist and communist ideologies emerged, but after Yalta the West did not effectively export market, democracy and peace to the Third World. After 1989, the ideas of liberalism (in economic globalization and EU enlargement), neo-conservatism (in the Iraq war), and multi-cultural leftism (in pluri-national conflict resolution processes) began to be applied to achieve a "near" world order. Since 2001, Islamic fundamentalism’s threat has prevented both stability (with the failure of the concert of powers of the 1990s) and order (with minimal improvements in democracy and peace). Following the Arab Spring, Obama also abandoned the “interests-intensive” conservative diplomacy. He no longer supported "lesser evils" (military or personalist regimes) against "absolute evils" (e.g., the Islamic State), and waged only "low intensity" wars in Iraq, Syria and Libya

Messages from the past. The rock art of the Al-Hajar Mountains
This volume Messages from the Past is the result of the archaeological surveys and investigations undertaken by the author over the last 10 years under the patronage of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture. The rock art of the Sultanate was one of the least studied in the Arabian Peninsula, but now this gap is going to be filled. In this book the author takes the reader on an in depth journey into the various themes present in the rock art of Oman. He offers theories on the chronology and interpretation, while exploring the landscape setting of the decorated panels and how best to research these. Several beautiful photographs and scientific tracings of the rock art accompany the text. The volume closes offering to enthusiasts and tourists a series of guided visits with GPS maps to the most interesting and visible rock art sites protected by the Royal Decrees of the Sultanate

The paper examines the fierce criticism of the Austrian philosopher Ebner to the idealism of Hegel and to philosophy more generally, which he deems unable to account for the spiritual dimension. In order to understand the "dialogic thought" of the author, this paper first proposes an analogy between Ebner and the acrobat player Jof of the movie "The Seventh Seal" by Ingmar Bergman. The paper then carries out a comparison between the thought of Ebner and that of Hamann, who also reflected on the limits of reason and of the word as something that cannot be simply defined as concept, particularly in the case of the dimensions of Spirituality and faith. In the conclusion, the paper examines the actual possibility of finding a balance between the need for rationalism and the infiniteness of faith
Spay/neuter laws as a debated approach to stabilizing the populations of dogs and cats: An overview of the European legal framework and remarks
To reduce the (over) population of unwanted companion non human animals, namely dogs and cats. They are used to lower negative impacts on human societies and on the animals themselves, and opting for the neutering status is usually considered a demonstration of "responsible ownership." In Western countries, however, such provisions are not uniform and must increasingly be balanced with the recognition of animals as sentient beings with interests under the law. Furthermore, there is no consensus on whether routine neutering benefits both human and nonhuman parties, and the veterinary profession progressively claims the need for case-by-case management. Such premises make deciding how to manage companion animals' reproductive lives legally challenging. The current work examines the European legal framework for companion animal protection and animal legal status after providing a brief overview of the global problem of overpopulation. Subsequently, the author discusses the main legal approaches to controlling companion animal reproduction, in European countries. Remarks about the legally binding option and on alternative approaches are provided, while highlighting the persistent need for appropriate and coherent European legislation
