Ennio De Giorgi and Gamma-convergence

No full text
Γ-convergence was introduced by Ennio De Giorgi in a se- ries of papers published between 1975 and 1983. In the same years he developed many applications of this tool to a great variety of asymp- totic problems in the calculus of variations and in the theory of partial differential equations

Fractional De Giorgi classes and applications to nonlocal regularity theory

No full text
We present some recent results obtained by the author on the regularity of solutions to nonlocal variational problems. In particular, we review the notion of fractional De Giorgi class, explain its role in nonlocal regularity theory, and propose some open questions in the subject.</p

Intrinsic geometry and De Giorgi classes certain anisotropic Sobolev spaces

No full text
We analyze a natural approach to the regularity of solutions of problems related to some anisotropic Laplacian operators, and a subsequent extension of the usual De Giorgi classes, by investigating the relation of the functions in such classes with the weak solutions to some anisotropic elliptic equations as well as with the quasi-minima of the corresponding functionals with anisotropic polynomial growth

Ivane Javakhishvili's research on the narration of monuments of ancient Georgian writing, namely About the style of St. Giorgi Mtatsmindeli's hagiographic writings, which is expressed in his fundamental work and the monograph published after his death, they are "Old Georgian Historical Writing~ and The publication of St. Giorgi Mtatsmindeli's writings and the study attached to it, acquired great importance for the general study of Georgian religious and secular literature, historical writing, and the conceptual issues of the Georgian Literary and Theological School of Athos. He was one of the first to pay attention and form his views to St. About the codicological-textological issues, sources and narrative style of Giorgi Mtatsmindeli's hagiographical works, thereby drawing attention to the methodological views of the writer-hagiographer. In this regard, Ivane Javakhishvili directed his observations to On the text of "The Life of St. John and St. Ephvime Mtatsmindelis" as a historical work, but these observations are also important from a philological-literary point of view. According to the scientist, he had oral and written sources, which he himself indicates. In modern research, we have the opportunity to verify the mentioned issues with other sources, which once again shows the scientific genius of Ivane Javakhishvili. In these works, Ivane Javakhishvili used the terminology used in theological and historical writings, namely "tskhoreva", "dignified citizenship", "a letter to be remembered", "length of time", "the coming of truth to science", "infallible" and others. Discussed by The issue of St. Giorgi Mtatsmindeli's hagiographic narrative style, which presents the author as a truthful writer. The report talks about the different opinions on each raised issue based on historical and philological studies at the modern stage. The work presents the merits of Ivane Javakhishvili St. Giorgi Mtatsmindeli's hagiographic works. In determining the sources, textological processing, narrative style, epochal value of the lives of Saints John and Ephvime in the context of the thought space of the Middle Ages, based on the achievements of modern philological-literary science

კონფერენცია ეძღვნება ჭაბუა ამირეჯიბის დაბადებიდან 100 წლის იუბილეს/ The Conference is Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Chabua AmirejibiIn the historical memory of Georgian nation, Chabua Amirejibi chose the name Giorgi Brtskhinvale (brilliant) and created the novel where the main character is Giorgi the Brilliant also known as “the best within the humans” by historians. Of course, the novel is not the research work about Georgian history or about the life of Giorgi the Brilliant. During writing the novel he emphasizes the soul of the epoch and expresses it in a very diverse manner. Author of the novel chose the method of allegory to show personal freedom, moral selection, paradigm of political determination, and to show the historical-cultural context of Georgian King’s activities. The character of Giorgi the Brilliant became synonymous with the dedication to keeping the existence of the nation and country, whose whole activities were related to the future hope and historical memory of the nation. In the critical epoch when even in contemporary literature we are at the risk of losing the phenomenon of heroes, Giorgi the Brilliant by Chabua Amirejibi is the one with knight spirit, philosophically minded and person with high moral principles. The goal of creating the novel is the attempt to show the historical-cultural meaning of the king’s context in complains with the contemporary life. The main interest of the author to Giorgi the Brilliant and his epoch comes from the wish to finding the valuable place in the world for our nation, seeking the function of Georgia as the central country in Caucasus. He wants to show, at the initial stage of the weakening of the imperial foreign powers, what cautious, prudent, diplomatic moves the inhabitants of the enslaved, abandoned, blood-soaked land should have made, in which an allegorical point of view is clearly read. Situated at the crossroad of East and West, North and South, being the most important country for the big and small countries of Europe and Asia, Georgia was playing the role of combining cultural, economic, civilization and the world. All those meaningful ideas were under the risk of getting lost and was especially painful for the author. Not surprisingly, same issues are discussed in “Data Tutashkhia”. In “Giorgi the Brilliant” the hidden idea is to restore this function of the country. The idea of freedom and state were the most actual part of our life and the historical face of the king is given according those allegoric meanings

Local boundedness for forward–backward parabolic De Giorgi classes with coefficients depending on time

We define a homogeneous De Giorgi class %of mixed type of order p2p \geqslant 2 which suits two class of evolution equations of the type μ(x,t)ut+Au=0\mu (x,t) u_t + A u = 0 and (μ(x,t)u)t+Au=0(\mu (x,t) u)_t + A u = 0, where μ\mu can be positive, null and negative and AA a suitable elliptic operator. \\ For functions belonging to this class we prove a local boundedness result

On the extensions of the De Giorgi approach to nonlinear hyperbolic equations

No full text
In this talk we present an overview on the extensions of the De Giorgi approach to general second order nonlinear hyperbolic equations. We start with an introduction to the original conjecture by E. De Giorgi ([1, 2]) and to its solution by E. Serra and P. Tilli ([4]). Then, we discuss a first extension of this idea (Serra&Tilli, [5]) aimed at investigating a wide class of homogeneous equations. Finally, we announce a further extension to nonhomogeneous equations, obtained by the author in [9] in collaboration with P. Tilli
