The North and Europe. Scandinavian Identity and Cultural Relations with the Continent through the Centuries. Atti del Convegno Internazionale di Studi, Genova, 25-27 Settembre 2003.
This paper examines the different attitudes of Nordic linguists and scholars towards
foreign words through the centuries. It has been included in the proceedings of an
International Congress of Scandianvian Studies (“The North and Europe.
Scandinavian Identity and Cultural Relations with the Continent through the
Centuries”) that the author himself organized 2003 in collaboration with Gianna
Chiesa Isnardi. The Congress had an interdisciplinary character and was open to
various themes and disciplines (from fiction to the arts, from history to the theatre,
from religion to anthropology and so on – see Table of contents). The author is also
editor of the proceedings
In this pamphlet the author defends the action of the emperor in the deposition of Popes John XII and Benedict V (963-964). The introduction underlines the rhetorical and narrative strategies used by the author, which aim at a systematic moral denigration of John XII, who is progressively revealed as possessed by the devil. Together with Liutprand's text, the book provides editions and translations of the main historical and literary documents connected to the events: they are almost all on the Ottonian side, with the exception of the Acts of the synod held in Rome in February 964, which declared null and void the deposition of John XII and his replacement by Leo VIII

Null alleles of microsatellites for Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum
The article discusses a study to assess the occurrence of null alleles and test markers reliability. It notes that while the presence of microsatellite null alleles was reported for the Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum, this has not been checked by specific tests. The results suggest that allele frequency corrections allow the evaluation of population differential levels but do not lead to a reliable assignment of individuals to populations

In eleven points of his Cronica universalis sive generalis, the Dominican friar Galvaneus
otherwise unknown. References analysis leads to the conclusion that the
Summa is not an external source quoted by Galvano, but a work of himself, now
lost; the author refers to it for widening the topic in the Universalis he is dealing
with. Since references are only to Summa’s prima pars, the work was likely never finished; actually, nor the Cronica universalis is. The cross references enable us to understand the contents of the Summa (a discussion per questiones related to ancient
biblical history) and its internal organization (the same as the Thomas Aquinas’
Summa theologie, structured in partes, questiones and articuli). Writing the Summa cronicarum, Galvaneus probably intended to support a historiographic text (the Cronica
universalis) with a parallel philosophical treatise; on the same line, the author had
previously added to a chronicle of Milanese argument (the so-called Cronica Galvagnana) a treaty per questiones on local history (the Cronica extravagans)
Liutprand of Cremona, with his works, contributed profoundly to the myth of the ‘black Rome’ in the tenth century. The article examines the context in which the author formulates his judgments on Rome, and the evolution of the vision of the city in the succession of his works. It also analyzes the stylistic tools which Liutprand makes use of in introducing the Roman situation of the time, very effective and able to convey for
centuries a negative image of the city
Geo-Climatic Early-Design Tools and Indicators
he paper introduces a simple methodology to include passive cooling dissipative solutions in early design phases. In order to fulfil this objective, specific Key Performance Indicators (KPI), which are able to analyse the geo-climatic potential of heat sinks, are reported. These indicators are based on the calculation of residual local climate cooling demand—such as introduced by the author in previous works. The specific techniques considered in this paper are natural ventilation, both for comfort and environmental cooling, direct evaporative systems and earth-to-air heat exchangers. The presented method compares these solutions using typical local climate conditions and can be applied before the definition of specific building, from early-design phases. These indicators may be included in bioclimatic tools to optimise the use of passive solutions in early-design phases such as building programming. In addition, an analysis based on a set of reference locations in the Mediterranean area will be included by considering a performance-driven approach to early design, in order to combine KPI in both an environmental and a technological design approach. In this analysis, specific requirements for each considered technology will be defined in order to include a guideline for designers. Finally, climate-change weather forecast will be considered in order to analyse the resilience of the proposed passive cooling solutions under future climate scenarios defined by IPCC. For this analysis, the software Meteonorm is used to generate the morphed typical weather conditions, and the proposed indicators will be applied to study the effect of climate change on the local geo-climatic potential of passive cooling dissipative systems
