    Bandwidth enhanced CPW fed elliptical wideband antenna with slotted defected ground structure

    In this article, a simple curved elliptical coplanar wave guide fed antenna is proposed for wideband applications. An elliptical shaped model of multiband antenna is converted as notch band antenna with placement of slots in the radiating structure and by incorporating defected ground structure, bandwidth enhancement isattained in the proposed model. In short, the multiband antennais modelled in to wideband antenna with bandwidth of 17.8 GHz and impedance bandwidth of 67%.By placing defected ground structure adjacent to feed line on the ground plane, additional resonant frequencies are raised and enhancement in the bandwidth is obtained. The measured results are providing excellent correlation with simulation results obtained from HFSS and CST tools.</jats:p

    Local variation of inundation, sedimentary characteristics, and mineral assemblages of the 2011 Tohoku-oki tsunami on the Misawa coast, Aomori, Japan

    The 2011 Tohoku-oki tsunami caused severe damage to the coastal regions of eastern Japan and left a sediment veneer over affected areas. We discuss differences in depositional characteristics of the 2011 Tohoku-oki tsunami from the viewpoint of the sediment source, coastal topography and flow height. The study area on the Misawa coast, northern Tohoku, includes a 20 km long coastline with sandy beaches, coastal dunes and a gently sloping lowland. This landscape assemblage provides an opportunity to examine the effects of topography on the characteristics of the tsunami deposit. During field surveys conducted from April 10 to May 2, 2011, we described the thickness, facies, and structure of the tsunami deposit. We also collected sand samples at approximately 20 m intervals along 13 shore-perpendicular transects extending up to 550 m inland, for grain size and mineral assemblage analysis. The tsunami flow height was estimated by measuring the elevation of debris found in trees, broken tree limbs, or water marks on buildings. The nature of the coastal lowland affected the flow height and inundation distance. In the southern part of the study area, where there is a narrow, 100 m wide low-lying coastal strip, the run-up height reached 10 m on the landward terrace slopes. To the north, the maximum inundation reached 550 m with a run-up height of 32 m on the wider, low-lying coastal topography. The average flow height was 4-5 m. The tsunami eroded coastal dunes and formed small scarps along the coast. Immediately landward of the coastal dunes the tsunami deposit was more than 20 cm thick, but thinned markedly inland from this point. Close to the dunes the deposit was composed largely of medium sand (1-2 Φ) with planar and parallel bedding, but with no apparent upward fining or coarsening. The particle size was similar to that of the coastal dune and we infer that the dunes were the local source material for the tsunami deposit at this point. The mineral assemblage of the tsunami deposit was dominated by orthopyroxene and clinopyroxene and was also similar to the dune and beach sand. At sites more than half the inundation distance inland, the thinner tsunami deposit consisted mainly of fine sand (2.375 Φ) with some upward fining. The difference in particle size and sedimentary characteristics was probably caused by differences in sediment transportation and depositional processes. We infer that the well-sorted, finer sediments were deposited out of suspension, whereas the relatively coarse sands were laid down from traction flows. The depositional characteristics of the 2011 Tohoku-oki tsunami deposit appeared to have been affected mainly by the coastal topography and the extent of erosion at any one point, as opposed to flow height

    Agriculture is not only a country’s backbone of food, livelihood and ecological security systems, but is also the very soul of its sovereignty. In Kerala population density is high and land is scarce. To achieve sustainable advancement in quality of human life, meeting the domestic food requirement is to be given foremost priority in development plans. As the area of cultivation cannot be increased and growth of population cannot be controlled growth in food production is to be achieved by qualitative improvement in farming. This requires improvements in material inputs, farming techniques, storage technology and research. Effective integration of these factors is tied closely to adequate information flow, which can be ensured only by an efficient information system for agricultural education, research, extension and development. So evaluation and improvement of existing information services is very crucial for sustainable agricultural growth. The study evaluates the existing information resources, facilities, services, possibilities for resource sharing, accessibility of external sources, and the factors that affect the quality and efficiency of information services in agricultural sector. Coverage is limited to the State of Kerala. Sample consist 105 institutions of different levels, and information users consisting of 426 scientists and 220 farmers. Different sets of questionnaires and interview schedule were used to elicit information. The study found that agricultural research conducted at various institutions in the region at huge public expense has generated knowledge for improving production. Along with these huge collections of acquired content is also stored in the sector. But when a farmer, an extension worker, a scientist or an administrator needs information it is not easily accessible. The study found that agricultural sector fails to effectively bank on information resources available due to the lack of an information system and network. Recommends an Agricultural and Farm Information System for Kerala. Suggests a model plan for a computer communication network for resource sharing between the agricultural institutions in the State, which will also ensure, smooth flow of results of research down to the grassroots level to achieve maximum productivity in agriculture

    EEG Signal Classification Automation using Novel Modified Random Forest Approach

    101-108Digitalization and automation are the two aspects in the medical industry that define compliance with industry 4.0. Automation is essential for speeding up the diagnosis process, while digitalization leads to smart medicine and efficient diagnosis. Epilepsy is one such disease that can use these automation techniques. The automatic monitoring of epilepsy EEG is of great significance in clinical medicine. Aiming at the non-stationary characteristics of EEG signals, the classification of EEG signals is based on the combination of overall empirical mode. It is proposed using the random forest method. The EEG signal data set has an epileptic interval over 200 single-channel signals with a seizure period. A total of 819,400 data are used as samples. First, the overall epileptic EEG signal modal is decomposed into multiple intrinsic modal functions. The effective features are extracted from the first-order intrinsic modal function. Finally, random forest and Least Square SVM (LS-SVM) are considered to classify the EEG signals characteristics. The correct recognition rate of random forest and LS-SVM is compared. The results show that random forest classification method has an ideal classification effect on epilepsy EEG signals during and between seizures. The recognition accuracy is 99% and 60%, which is higher than the accuracy of the LS-SVM. The proposed method improves clinical epilepsy. The efficiency of EEG signals analysis

    Overview of Jute Fibre as Thermoplastic Matrix Polymer Reinforcement

    Recent decades have seen a substantial increase in interest in research on natural fibres that is aligned with sustainable development goals (SDGs). Due to their renewable resources and biodegradability, natural fiberreinforced composites have been investigated as a sustainable alternative to synthetic materials to reduce the usage of hazardous waste and environmental pollution. Among the natural fibre, jute fibre obtained from a bast plant has an increasing trend in the application, especially as a reinforcement material. Numerous research works have been performed on jute fibre with regard to reinforced thermoset and thermoplastic composites. Nevertheless, current demands on sustainable materials have required new developments in thermoplastic composites. In this paper, the author reviews jute plants as reinforcement materials for thermoplastic matrix polymers. This review provides an overview of the sustainability of jute plants as reinforcement material for thermoplastic matrix polymers. The overview on jute based thermoplastic composites focused on the thermal behavior and mechanical properties. Apart from physical, chemical, and mechanical properties, the study also covers the current and perspectives for future research challenges faced by the researchers on jute fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites

    Nouns and verbs in Chintang: children's usage and surrounding adult speech

    Analyzing the development of the noun-to-verb ratio in a longitudinal corpus of four Chintang (Sino-Tibetan) children, we find that up to about age four, children have a significantly higher ratio than adults. Previous cross-linguistic research rules out an explanation of this in terms of a universal noun bias; instead, a likely cause is that Chintang verb morphology is polysynthetic and difficult to learn. This hypothesis is supported by the fact that the development of Chintang children's noun-to-verb ratio correlates significantly with the extent to which they show a similar flexibility with verbal morphology to that of the surrounding adults, as measured by morphological paradigm entropy. While this development levels off around age three, children continue to have a higher overall noun-to-verb ratio than adults. A likely explanation lies in the kinds of activities that children are engaged in and that are almost completely separate from adults' activities in this culture

    Free prefix ordering in Chintang

    This article demonstrates prefix permutability in Chintang (Sino-Tibetan, Nepal) that is not constrained by any semantic or morphosyntactic structure, or by any dialect, sociolect, or idiolect choice—a phenomenon ruled out by standard assumptions about grammatical words. The prefixes are fully fledged parts of grammatical words and are different from clitics on a large number of standard criteria. The analysis of phonological word domains suggests that prefix permutability is a side-effect of prosodic subcategorization: prefixes occur in variable orders because each prefix and each stem element project a phonological word of their own, and each such word can host a prefix, at any position
