Resource Sharing Among ISRO Libraries : a Case Study of Consortia Approach
The paper presents a practical step by step approach and efforts made to achieve huge savings in acquisition expenditures and creative resources sharing among a group of libraries working under a single parent institution, namely, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Actual cases of substantial savings in subscription to costly journals, CD-ROM databases and conference volumes in the way of consortia price and/or combination (print and electronic) subscription prices are depicted with appropriate tables and charts
A decision theory approach to standing order procurement of NASA reports
Explains various package deal procurement methods including standing order method for library documents. Enumerates different standing order services of NTIS for technical reports. Describes the NASA information system. Discusses and analyses the economy of NASA FS service by applying decision theory approach and considering the various costs as well as saving aspects/advantages. Explains the non-economic factors to be considered in evaluating such a service. Suggests ways of making NASA FS service more beneficial to the library of ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC)
ISRO to help Kochi-based marine institute identify fishing zones ZEE News dated 23rd November 2017
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will extend help to Kochi-headquartered Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) to identify potential fishing zone (PFZ) in the seas surrounding the subcontinent. The project named 'Samudra' is aimed at helping fishermen easily locate shoals of fish without wasting time and fuel. The satellite-based numerical ocean model analyses various physical changes occurring in ocean owing to seasonal and climatic variations, high winds, rain and cyclonic conditions. In the first phase, the CMFRI and the Space Applications Centre (SAC) of the ISRO will locate these areas in the offshore waters of Tamil Nadu
Information center/ system planning: Physical layout and facilities planning
Highlights the general issues of physical planning for libraries and explores alternate plans from the angle of collection, users, staff, etc. Provides practical tips for the whole exercise of physical planning for libraries and for acquiring equipment and furniture. Discusses related aspects like space estimation, allocation and utilization. A case study of projecting requirements of space for a special library, ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC) Library is presented with emphasis on practical aspects of creating physical facilities and environment
Now, fishers can locate catch using Isro satellites The New Indian Express dated 23rd November 2017
There’s good news for fishermen hit by dwindling fish population. The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) and the Isro will now identify and forecast Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) using satellites. The project ‘Samudra’ will help fishermen locate shoals of fish without wasting time and fuel on boats. As per the presser issued by the CMFRI, in the first phase the CMFRI and the Space Applications Centre (SAC) of the Isro have jointly launched a research project for identifying, forecasting and monitoring PFZ in the coastal and offshore waters of Tamil Nadu

CMFRI joins hands with ISRO to identify Potential Fishing Zone Outlook dated 22nd November 2017
In a major effort greatly beneficial to fisherfolk in the country,Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute has joined hands with ISRO to identify and forecast Potential Fishing Zone, where there is an abundance of fish. In the first phase, CMFRI and the Space Applications Centre of ISRO have jointly launched a research project to identify, forecast and monitor PFZ in coastal and offshore waters of Tamil Nadu, a CMFRI release said here today.
The 'SAMUDRA' project is aimed at helping fishermen easily locate shoals of fish
witchout wasting time and fuel, it said.
The collaborative research work focuses on developing and running a satellite-based ocean forecasting model to provide PFZ advisories. The project aims to develop a satellite-based numerical ocean model to forecast information about fishing locations by closely monitoring and analysing various physical changes in ocean owing to seasonal and climatic variations, high winds, rain and cyclonic conditions
