Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura.Este trabalho procurou pensar o lugar (Tom) de Tom Zé na música popular brasileira; um lugar nem sempre fácil de detectar, talvez um "entre-lugar" que, permitiu olhar para Tom Zé a partir da idéia de híbrido que se acomoda neste terceiro espaço do qual nos fala Bhabha a partir de Derrida. Para tanto, fazem parte (desta dissertação) quatro capítulos nos quais procurei posicionar Tom Zé e apresentá-lo dialogando com a linha teórica na qual trabalhei - Bhabha, Derrida, Foucault, Barthes, Delleuze, Bataille -, mas, antes de qualquer coisa, apresentar Tom Zé dialogando com o próprio Tom Zé e com os diálogos que fazem parte do universo deste sertanejo de Irará-BA que adotou São Paulo para morar This paper tried to think Tom Zé#s place (Tom ) in Brazilian popular music; a place not always easy to define, maybe a #in-between place#, that, however, allowed us to look at Tom Zé from the hybrid idea that accomodates in this third space that is referred by Bhabba, from Derrida. Doutorado Interdisciplinar em Ciências HumanasA ética antropológica reconhece apenas o valor decorrente do benefício que os animais e o ambiente físico natural podem proporcionar aos seres humanos. Essa posição antropocêntrica é defendida na tentativa de promover um status moral diferenciado ao ser humano, fragmentando a discussão ética. Mas, quando se deseja agir eticamente, faz-se necessário englobar nessa discussão os critérios de inclusão na comunidade moral apresentados pela ética animal, pela ética ambiental e pela ética humana. A ética global busca um critério de consideração moral capaz de satisfazer, tanto as exigências formais da ética, universalidade, imparcialidade, generalidade, quanto a exigência substancial, o benefício àqueles que podem ser afetados pelos interesses dos agentes morais por estarem na condição de vulnerabilidade. O objetivo principal dessa tese é demonstrar as externalidades da atividade humana de produção industrial de frangos de corte e suínos para o abate e suas conseqüências na vida dos seres humanos, dos animais, e seus impactos no ambiente físico natural. São apresentados os argumentos de maior força para a elaboração de uma ética global analisando as propostas de Kenneth Goodpaster, Peter Singer, Michael W. Fox (ética humana, animal e ambiental) e Tom Regan (direitos morais). Os critérios de consideração moral, senciência e valor inerente, são escolhidos para sensibilizar e gerar um impulso suficiente para tirar o ser humano da inércia moral. Para tanto, buscouse demonstrar a importância de se superar o paradigma alimentar a partir do questionamento dos hábitos cotidianos, na tentativa de superar o limite da percepção psicológica da necessidade do agir ético. The anthropocentric vision of ethics just acknowledges the value deriving from the benefits animals and the natural physical environment may offer human beings. This anthropological vision is defended in an attempt to promote a differentiated moral status to human beings and thus fragmenting the ethical debate. However, when one desires to act ethically, it is deemed necessary to embody the inclusion criteria in the moral community to the debate presented by animal ethics, environmental ethics and human ethics. Global ethics seeks a criterium of moral consideration able to satisfy the formal demands of ethics, i.e., universality, impartiality, generality, as well as the substantial demand, i. e., the benefits to those who may be affected by the interests of the moral agents for being in the condition of vulnerability. The main purpose of this thesis consists of demonstrating the externalities of the human activity of industrial production of poultry and pigs for slaughter and its consequences for the lives of human beings, animals and its impact on the physical natural environment. The most powerful arguments for the elaboration of global ethics, analysing the proposals of Kenneth Goodpaster, Peter Singer, Michael W. Fox (human, animal and environmental ethics) and Tom Regan (moral rights) are presented. The moral consideration criteria, sentience and inherent value are chosen to sensitize and generate an impulse strong enough to jolt human beings out of their moral inertia. For that purpose, it is attempted to demonstrate the importance of overcoming the food paradigm, starting out from the questioning of daily habits, in an attempt to overcome the limit of psychological perception for the need of ethical acting

Ela faz parte de um debate pertinaz sobre a utilização de animais não humanos, em diversificadas práticas, para beneficiar os animais humanos. Este trabalho estuda aspectos da controvérsia gerada pela vivissecção, as relações históricas entre a espécie humana e os animais não humanos, algumas correntes teológicas, filosóficas, culturais e científicas que influenciaram na disseminação da experimentação animal e no surgimento das leis que, teoricamente, protegem os animais e atribuem alguns direitos aos mesmos. A partir da descrição e interpretação dessas questões, esta monografia investiga, imergida na história ambiental e na história do tempo presente, pontos e argumentos intrinsicamente relacionados à problemática principal: estudo do contexto e desenvolvimento do embate entre vivisseccionistas e antivivisseccionistas na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC).Vivisection is a practice performed since ancient times and has never reached general agreement. It is part of a persistent debate on the use of nonhuman animals in diverse practices to benefit human animals. This paper examines aspects of the controversy generated by vivisection, the historical relationships between humans and non-human animals, some theological, philosophical, scientific and cultural currents that influenced in the spread of animal experimentation and the emergence of laws that theoretically protect animals and assign some rights to them. From the description and interpretation of these issues, this thesis investigates, immersed in environmental history and the history of the present time, points and arguments intrinsically related to the main issue: the study of the context and development of the clash between antivivisectionists and vivisectors at the Universidade Federal Santa Catarina ( UFSC )

No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura, Florianópolis, 2013Abstract: The current work proposes a deeper analysis of the first volume of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novel (1999), a comic book series written by the British Alan Moore and illustrated by Kevin O?Neill, which narrates a story led by a heroes? team composed by literary characters from the 19th century. Based on the literary concepts of dialogism and intertextuality presented by Mikhail Bakhtin and Julia Kristeva respectively and Gérard Genette?s similar analytical categories, this study analyses how the authors elaborated a dense and complex ficcional universe where intertextual relations are not just a resource recurrently employed, but the proper leitmotiv of the literary work, impregnating it in all levels. Since the option elected for the comic books visual-verbal language and for the traditional superheroes genre, it has been analysed how the authors selected literary books from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century amongst popular adventure, horror, and science-fiction novels and, following that, how they redesigned selected characters and elements in order to integrate them in a coherent plot novel. It is found that the main characters explored are not merely juxtaposed except that they were hipertextualy redesigned, each one being constituted not only by other texts quotes but also in intertextual relation with the original literary works, promoting permanencies and ruptures settled by other intertextual relations with the superheroes comic books, and with specific social roles the authors criticize
As representações socioculturais dos animais no jornalismo da Folha de S. Paulo

O objetivo da pesquisa é caracterizar e discutir os modos como os animais são representados socioculturalmente pelo jornalismo impresso de referência na atualidade. Para isso tem como objeto empírico os materiais informativos e opinativos publicados no jornal Folha de S. Paulo. Utiliza-se a análise de conteúdo para a coleta dos textos e imagens e o aporte teórico dos estudos culturais para sua interpretação. Parte-se da discussão sobre a representação e o processo de partilha de conhecimentos para abordar a participação do jornalismo na formação do imaginário social do contexto em que circula. Em seguida, realiza-se um resgate sobre como se desenvolveu o paradigma antropocêntrico-cartesiano que rege o pensamento hegemônico em relação aos animais e que permeia a maior parte das representações socioculturais produzidas pelo jornal analisado.Abstract : This study assumes that journalism is a social phenomenon producer and player of socio-cultural representations that influence the understanding that society has on the world. The objective of the research is to describe and discuss the ways in which animals are represented by sociocultural print journalism reference today. For it has the empirical object informative and opinionated material published in the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo. It uses content analysis to the collection of texts and images and the theoretical framework of cultural studies for their interpretation. It starts with the discussion of the representation and the process of sharing knowledge to address the participation of journalism in shaping the social imaginary of the context in which it circulates. Then there will be a rescue on the evolution of the anthropocentric-Cartesian paradigm that governs the hegemonic thinking towards animals and that permeates most of the socio-cultural representations produced by the newspaper analyzed

The first one is constituted by the novel Entre outras mil that reports the story of Raquel, married to Carlos and daughter of Sueli. A country girl, from a lower-class, that struggles to win the approval of a judge competition. She lives a rushed and apathetic life besides her husband, when her mother, that disappeared without trace, when Raquel was a teenager, reappears after twenty years. The mother wants to take her to tell their separation story live, on TV, in a Mother?s Day special. The plot shows a character that is revealed only by the memory of the protagonists, the mystical aunt Neusa, common thread of the affection between them. Set in Porto Alegre, but with passages of Raquel?s childhood in the countryside, the plot recalls the peak of televison, above all the soap operas (telenovelas), and how that goes through the characters. The second piece is the Ensaio tramado, essay about the making of the novel, intimately interlaced with it. In it I epoxe my rights and wrongs in the creative process, and the tension paths by which I passed to develop the form and the substance. The essay is also composed by two pieces. The first one tries to estabilish the process onto the
elements of the novel: plot, time, narration, tone, social scene, and, also, the research of the
relationship mother and daughter for the construction of the characters. The second piece, treats
of the deconstruction of the creative process in an attempt to search for the secret center of the
text, the subjective and fixed intention that supports the plot.Este trabalho ? composto por duas partes. A primeira ? constitu?da da novela Entre outras mil

hist?ria da separa??o ao vivo, na televis?o, num Especial de Dia das M?es. A trama conta com
uma personagem que ? revelada apenas pela mem?ria das protagonistas, a m?stica tia Neusa,
fio condutor do afeto entre elas. Ambientada em Porto Alegre, mas com passagens da inf?ncia
de Raquel no interior, a trama rememora o auge da televis?o, sobretudo das telenovelas, e como

Intra-annual to multi-decadal xylem traits in a tropical moist semi-deciduous forest of Central Africa
No full textA witness of a tree’s past conditions is the wood itself. The main research question of this dissertation is how to assess and reveal the driving forces of the patterns of wood traits on pith-to-bark cross-sections in tropical trees. Cambial and leaf phenology was monitored in the Luki Reserve (Mayombe forest, D.R. Congo). Furthermore, X-ray CT densitometry was explored to assess traits in a reliable way, for multiple species. Variability in phenology is observed for T. superba, which requires traits of individual trees to be fixed on a time axis. Furthermore, X-ray CT is a suitable method for assessing traits in a fast way. Cambial activity of understory trees has shown to be species-specific, whilst many trees show zero xylem growth. Finally, 66 years of tree growth was analysed, while trait analysis revealed a median ring count of only 32, thus implying many non-periodical rings. This work presents methodological improvements to measure traits as continuous variables from pith to bark, but also acknowledges that phenology still remains a key aspect in order to fix traits on a time axis.
