Music is part of all of our lives. It can make us feel so many different things and be so beautiful and interesting that everyone should try creating or just playing around with it. The objective of this project is to create a looper/drum pad style app that allows the user to create and perform different music using default sounds or their own. It will also support the MIDI protocol, allowing the user to control external MIDI gear through USB. It has been developed for Android since the existing solutions are lacking and not many. Because of this the project has been developed using Android Studio, Kotlin, and Oboe in the most efficient way possible

The development of parameterization of controller for looper control angle and tension in hot strip finishing mills is traced based on Inverse Linear Quadratic (ILQ) and Proportional Integral (PI) mode control, mainly considering, in the rolled material, thickness and width in the steel strip. Firstly, the ILQ mode approach is applied in the looper angle and looper tension, both calculated e compares with real condition, to compensate disturbances and unmodeled dynamics in the looper, increasing or decreasing the angle position, through of Automatic Pressure Control (APC) as well as the speed reference in the previous stand rolling. Secondly, the Proportional Integral (PI) mode approach is applied in the looper angle e looper tension, where only looper angle is calculated and compared with real condition and looper tension is calculate and applied in the open loop with use torque reference, to compensate disturbances and unmodeled dynamics in the looper. So, one set of parameters of control has idealized to the looper tension and looper angle, improving the performance of the overall system, always dependent of processed material and her thickness and width in the steel strip in. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller compared with other methods that use only one control model to all types of steel

Looking ahead: anticipatory gaze and motor ability in infancy

The present study asks when infants are able to selectively anticipate the goals of observed actions, and how this ability relates to infants' own abilities to produce those specific actions. Using eye-tracking technology to measure on-line anticipation, 6-, 8- and 10-month-old infants and a control group of adults were tested while observing an adult reach with a whole hand grasp, a precision grasp or a closed fist towards one of two different sized objects. The same infants were also given a comparable action production task. All infants showed proactive gaze to the whole hand grasps, with increased degrees of proactivity in the older groups. Gaze proactivity to the precision grasps, however, was present from 8 months of age. Moreover, the infants' ability in performing precision grasping strongly predicted their ability in using the actor's hand shape cues to differentially anticipate the goal of the observed action, even when age was partialled out. The results are discussed in terms of the specificity of action anticipation, and the fine-grained relationship between action production and action perception

Schönfelder N, de Looper A, Stavenga M. A new model for transformative agreements and its implementation by a small publisher: enhancing a smooth transition to open access. Presented at the UKSG 45th Annual Conference and Exhibition, Telford, UK.A new transformative model is needed because conventional Read & Publish agreements do not best serve the needs of libraries and publishers in transforming budgets and revenues, respectively, from subscriptions to Open Access. Nina Schönfelder will present the “smooth transition model”, an advanced model, which is responsive to the progress in the transition. Anke de Looper and Marten Stavenga will present its implementation by a commercial publisher, highly specialized in linguistics. Their transformative agreement offers a gradual shift from subscription-based to publication-based charges for both publisher and libraries. The offer as well as the uptake by libraries will be discussed

Sensitivity of western redcedar to climate and western hemlock looper in British Columbia's inland temperate rainforest.

The inland temperate rainforest of British Columbia is a unique forest type dominated by large western redcedar. Uncertainty surrounding resilience of this forest to climate change and outbreaks of western hemlock looper makes development of management and conservation strategies challenging. Western redcedar trees were sampled at paired low and higher elevation sites, on north and south-facing aspects. Western redcedar growth was positively correlated with January temperature and growing season precipitation, and was negatively correlated with June temperature. Reconstruction of western hemlock looper outbreaks demonstrated that successive years of warm, dry spring seasonal conditions preceded outbreaks, and the mean return interval was 36.5 years. Western redcedar growth responded negatively to the same climate factors that were associated with looper outbreaks. Under a warmer and drier climate scenario, looper outbreaks are expected to increase in frequency, and western redcedar may not be able to survive defoliation as well as it has historically. --Leaf i.The original print copy of this thesis may be available here: http://wizard.unbc.ca/record=b197638

Evaluating the resilience of northern interior cedar hemlock forests to western hemlock looper defoliation events.

Forest response to western hemlock looper (Lambdina fiscellaria spp. lugubrosa) outbreaks in the inland temperate rainforest (ITR) can be quite variable. Sixty-three plots sampled approximately 17 years after collapse of the 1991-94 outbreak east of Prince George, British Columbia, revealed multiple aspects of ecosystem resilience. Overstory recovery appears to be greatest in stands with lower site productivity and in stands with a more severe outbreak history. Forest regeneration is strongly constrained by shrub cover, which is promoted by canopy opennesss and soil nutrients, both of which can be accentuated by defoliators. Shrub cover is more prominent on steep slopes. Site index and soil moisture regime are primarily responsible for niche differentiation among regenerating tree species. While silvicultural intervention may accelerate reforestation on sites dominated by dense shrubs after a looper outbreak, western redcedar (Thuja plicata Donn ex D. Don) can likely achieve full stocking without treatment. Management of defoliated stands for tree production should consider differences in site index, site series, post-outbreak canopy density and annual heat:moisture index among stands. These documented patterns can be mapped and extrapolated throughout the ITR, but forest management options after a defoliation event must be evaluated on a site by site basis. --Leaf i.The original print copy of this thesis may be available here: http://wizard.unbc.ca/record=b194710
