No full textThis work was carried out to measure the adaptability in Boer and Anglo-Nubiana goats on the tolerance (Ibéria and Benezra) and the dissipation (Rainsby) tests, at Timon, state of Maranhão, Brazil. The experiment was conduct from 2002 October to 2003 May. Fourteen animals were used in the Ibéria and Benezra tests (7= Boer and 7= Anglo-Nubiana) and eight male goats were used (4= Boer and 4= Anglo-Nubiana) in the Rainsby test. The goats were submitted at the same conditions. In the same days and times, the temperature (TA) and relative humidity of the air (UR) were also collected. It was used the completely randomized design in the factorial schemes (2 breed and 2 periods). The Kruskal-Wallis test was used. The TA, in °C, and the UR, in percent, were, in the dry period TA= 33.0 ± 1.5 and UR= 55.0 ± 7.43; and in the rain period, TA= 30.0 ± 2.02 and UR= 81.2 ± 6.99. In the Iberia test the Boer goats demonstrated better adaptation than Anglo-Nubiana goats to the Meio-Norte conditions, in both periods. In the Benezra test Boer goats presented better adaptation answer in the dry period but in the rain period Anglo-Nubiana goats were better (p0.05) in the two periods. In conclusion, according the tests utilized, the Boer goats are better adaptable in the hot stress conditionsEste trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a adaptabilidade das raças caprinas Boer e Anglo-Nubiana às condições climáticas do Meio-Norte do Brasil. Foram utilizados para isto dois testes de adaptabilidade (Ibéria e Benezra) e um teste de dissipação de calor (Rainsby). Nos dois primeiros testes foram utilizados, de cada raça, sete machos enquanto que no terceiro apenas quatro. Foram realizadas quatro coletas no período seco e no período chuvoso e nos mesmos dias de coleta foram medidas a temperatura ambiente (TA) e a umidade reativa do ar (UR). Foi utilizado delineamento inteiramente casualizado em fatorial (2 raças e 2 períodos). Foi utilizado o teste de Kruskal-Wallis. A TA, em °C, e a UR, em p.100, foram, no período seco, TA= 33,0 ± 1,5 e UR= 55,0 ± 7,43; e no período chuvoso, TA= 30,0 ± 2,02 e UR= 81,2 ± 6,99. No teste de Ibéria os caprinos Boer demonstraram uma maior adaptação às condições de Meio-Norte, nos dois períodos avaliados. No teste de Benezra foi constatada melhor resposta adaptativa (p0,05) nos dois períodos avaliados. Em conclusão, de acordo com os testes utilizados, os caprinos Boer são melhor adaptados às condições de estresse pelo calor da sub-região Meio-Norte do Brasil que os caprinos da raça Anglo-Nubian
