In Southwest Europe the forest landscapes are threatened by degradation and abandonment. This research addresses how the different groups of local forest actors in southern Aragon, Spain, perceive, interpret and narrate their forest landscapes. From 30 qualitative interviews, four divergent socio-ecological discourses have been identified reflecting the social representations. It concludes by highlighting the directions in which public policies should be worked to increase the sustainability of forest landscapes and change the current and divergent socio-ecological discourses: revision of the relationships of property and use rights, increase of internal and external knowledge of the forest management and openness to new actors and new forms of interaction based on cooperation and social innovation.
Modeling and simulation of compressible multi-material interface instabilities
This work was partially funded by the DGA.We aim to simulate the interactions at the material interface of two compressible media. These interactions are modeled by a single fully Eulerian system of conservation laws. The materials differ by their constitutive laws, that can reproduce the mechanical characteristics of fluids or elastic solid. We illustrate the model with simulations of shock waves impinging on undulated interfaces, generating instabilities such as Richtmyer-Meshkov instabilities

The existence of a possible anisotropy, determined by the orientation of any mineral or by microcrack network in granite rock, isn´t easily detected by the naked eye. Five granitic rocks from Galicia (Spain), namely Albero, Gris Alba, Gris Mondariz, Rosa Porriño and Traspielas, were characterized petrographically by means of textural and mineralogical studies, using optical polarizing microscopy, and fractographic studies were carried out under scanning electron microscopy. Longitudinal wave propagation velocity was measured in three orthogonal directions on cubic samples, oriented according to rift surface (known in quarry works like the preferential partition surface visible in the blocks). Vp was measured on dry and water saturated samples. All the dry samples showed an anisotropic behaviour of Vp. Models of microcrack network distribution and possible mineral grain orientation were developed based on the obtained data.
The emotional weight of "I love you" in multilinguals' languages
The present paper considers the perceived emotional weight of the phrase I love you in multilinguals’ different languages. The sample consists of 1459 adult multilinguals speaking a total of 77 different first languages. They filled out an on-line questionnaire with open and closed questions linked to language behavior and emotions. Feedback on the open question related to perceived emotional weight of the phrase I love you in the multilinguals’ different languages was recoded in three categories: it being strongest in (1) the first language (L1), (2) the first language and a foreign language, and (3) a foreign language (LX).
A majority of speakers felt I love you was strongest in their L1. Participants offered various explanations for their perception. Statistical analyses revealed that the perception of weight of the phrase I love you was associated with self-perceived language dominance, context of acquisition of the L2, age of onset of learning the L2, degree of socialization in the L2, nature of the network of interlocutors in the L2, and self-perceived oral proficiency in the L2

Skilled migration: the perspective of developing countries
This chapter focuses on the effects of skilled migration on developing countries. We
first present new evidence on the magnitude of the”brain drain” at the international
level. Using a stylized model of education investment in a context of migration, we
then survey the theoretical and empirical brain drain literature in a unified
framework. Finally we use a particular specification of the model to discuss a
number of policy issues from the perspective of developing countries
