Sewing the Body of Christ : Eucharist wafer souvenirs stitched into fifteenth-century manuscripts, primarily in the Netherlands
No full textBooks of hours in the fifteenth century occupied several social and devotional roles. People used them to store small objects, including metal badges. Although the cultural practice of sewing in badges was widespread in the late Middle Ages, nearly all of the badges were removed (by later collectors). This article examines the practice by considering needle holes and offsets in the soft parchment, which indicate the shape of the badges and where they were attached. Noting that vast majority of metal offsets in books of hours are round, the author posits that these were not impressed by pilgrims’ badges, as is often repeated in the scholarly literature, but rather by tokens that commemorate having taken the Eucharist. The round badges are the same size and shape and bear the same imagery as host wafers. Owners stitched such badges into their books’ margins at locations relevant to Eucharistic piety. When they were sewn into books, Eucharist badges reconfigured the book as a shrine that recorded a votary’s pursuit of Communion.Peer reviewe
A Gestão de uma Adequação Tecnológica: um Estudo de Caso na Indústria de Óleos Essenciais em Santo Amaro da Imperatriz - SC

Curso de Agronomia.Os óleos essenciais são produtos de alto valor agregado, amplamente utilizados e de mercado restrito. Seu sistema de produção necessita de estresse para maior eficiência, interferindo diretamente na sustentabilidade do processo. Conhecimento tácito, dados e informações servem como guia para formação de conhecimento explícito e propostas de práticas produtivas sustentáveis. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar aspectos da gestão do conhecimento no sistema de produção de óleos essenciais, através de atividades realizadas na empresa Technessentia Compostos Naturais, localizada em Santo Amaro da Imperatriz-SC, responsável pela produção, extração e comercialização de óleos essenciais, provenientes de cultivos de patchouli e capim-limão e compra de outras matrizes vegetais. Óleos essenciais são produzidos pelas plantas através do metabolismo secundário, com funções de defesa do vegetal, de modo que, qualquer fator que produza estresse estimula sua produção. Inúmeras são as variáveis que afetam o rendimento da produção, como competição com outras plantas, ataque de animais e patógenos, sombreamento, estresse hídrico, desequilíbrio nutricional, doses e fontes diferentes de fertilizantes. Este processo produtivo gera grandes quantidades de resíduos se comparado com a pequena porcentagem de produto obtido. Entre as propostas levantadas para tornar a produção mais sustentável, destaca-se o tratamento dos resíduos através de sua utilização no cultivo, no levantamento de componentes abióticos e bióticos que afetem a produção de óleo, plantio sem revolvimento do solo, escalonamento semanal da produção, elaboração de locais que favoreçam o funcionamento dos equipamentos de extração e condução do cultivo com plantas espontâneas competindo com a cultura principal. O resultado principal deste trabalho é aplicação da gestão do conhecimento no sistema produtivo de óleos essenciais visando conhecer as variáveis que interferiram no rendimento da produção

Blank verse: a tradução da história e das histórias de William Shakespeare no mundo virtual
No full textBlank Verse is a web series that portrays William Shakespeare and other historic characters from
the Elizabethan period as university students and staff in the 21st century. Through short episodes
we follow their journeys as young writers in an environment that is completely mediated by
technology. The creative mixture of historical, biographical and fictional elements prompted for
the reflections presented in this thesis. The first step in this analysis is the historical
contextualization of the Elizabethan period, also known as the “golden age” of drama, as well as
the creative writing process of William Shakespeare and other playwrights. Two biographers, Bill
Bryson and Peter Ackroyd, were instrumental in the reconstruction of the bard’s role as an author
and historical character. It was then necessary to understand the virtual platforms that enabled the
emergence of Blank Verse, therefore authors such as Henry Jenkins, Marie-Laure Ryan and
Pierre Levy laid the grounds for the studies of media theories and transmedia narratives. The
creative writing processes play a major role throughout the web series. Thus, in order to
understand the importance of writing and authorship in this fictional recreation of Shakespeare's
biography, it was vital to read authors such as Luciene Azevedo, Eneida Souza, Roland Barthes
and Michel Foucault. Finally, considering the connection between present and past, biography
and fiction that was evidenced by the web series, the thesis proposes a reflection on the
weakening of the boundaries between history and literature, truth and fiction, real and virtual, all
of which are products of the same tool: language. In this respect, the theoretical grounds were
laid by the historians and philosophers Hayden White, Pierre Nora, Paul Veyne, Giorgio
Agambem, Walter Benjamin and Friedrich Nietzsche. Additionally, William Shakespeare's
dramatic and poetic production, especially the plays from the beginning of his career, being
present throughout the entire web series, are also part of the corpus of this thesis.Blank Verse é uma web série que recria William Shakespeare e outros personagens históricos do
período elisabetano reimaginados como estudantes e professores universitários nos dias atuais.
Através de vídeos curtos e postagens em redes sociais, é possível acompanhar os personagens em
suas jornadas como escritores iniciantes, num contexto altamente mediado pela tecnologia. A
mescla criativa de elementos históricos, biográficos e ficcionais provoca as reflexões conduzidas
nesta tese. A análise parte da contextualização histórica do período elisabetano e dos processos de
produção e escrita dos dramaturgos que viveram a chamada “era de ouro” do teatro inglês. Dois
biógrafos, Bill Bryson e Peter Ackroyd, foram fundamentais para a reconstrução deste período e
de William Shakespeare como autor e personagem histórico. Em seguida, fez-se necessário
compreender o funcionamento das plataformas virtuais que possibilitaram o surgimento de Blank
Verse, e, por isso, autores como Henry Jenkins, Marie-Laure Ryan e Pierre Levy fundamentaram
os estudos das teorias de mídias e das narrativas transmídia. Na web série, os processos de escrita
criativa protagonizam toda a trama. Dessa forma, para compreender a importância da escrita e da
autoria nesta recriação ficcional da biografia de Shakespeare, foi imprescindível a leitura de
autores como Luciene Azevedo, Eneida Souza, Roland Barthes e Michel Foucault. Finalmente,
pensando na conexão entre presente e passado, biografia e ficção evidenciada pela web série, a
tese propõe uma reflexão acerca da diluição das fronteiras entre história e literatura, verdade e
ficção, real e virtual, considerando todos estes elementos produtos da mesma ferramenta: a
linguagem. Neste aspecto, os aliados teóricos foram os historiadores e filósofos Hayden White,
Pierre Nora, Paul Veyne, Giorgio Agambem, Walter Benjamin e Friedrich Nietzsche. Além
disso, a produção dramática e poética de William Shakespeare, especialmente as peças do início
de sua carreira, presentes ao longo de toda a web série, fazem também parte do corpus desta tese

No full textCombusted diatomaceous earth (DE, Thermo Fisher Scientific) was used as method blank. A total of 8 method blanks (one blank per sample batch), were included during extraction, clean up and quantification of the samples. Gas chromatography (GC) in tandem with Mass Spectrometry GC-MS/MS (Agilent 7000) in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode was used to quantify all 209 congeners in 171 individual or coeluting congener peaks. The GC was equipped with a Supelco SBP-Octyl capillary column (30 m × 0.25 mm ID, 0.25 mm film thicknesses) with helium as carrier gas
