Investigation of the Environment Suited for Habitation of Abe salamanders (Hynobius abei), Rated IA (CR) in the Red Databook, in Still Waterside of the Wakasa Area
Abe salamanders (Hynobius abei), which are facing extinction, still inhabit the coast of Hyogo, Kyoto and Fukui. There are a small number of habitats and inhabiting individuals. In Fukui Prefecture, the habitats are found in such northern areas as Takefu and Awara but not in such southern areas as Wakasa. In 2004, we investigated the habitats of the salamander in 44 spots of the Wakasa area. The environment of 11 spots among them was suited for habitation of the salamander. However, the habitation was not confirmed in the Wakasa area. Fortunately, habitation of 16 species of rare wild animals and plants was confirmed. Such information of biological geography indicates the possibility that the salamander still inhabits the Wakasa area. The round table commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of the BrazilianAssociation of Irish Studies (ABEI) and tenth year of the W.B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies was part of the XIV ABEI and II AEIS Symposium of Irish Studies - “The State of the Art: Local and Global Contexts in Dialogue”, and was held on August 15, 2019. The session was comprised by Dr Munira H. Mutran, honorary president of ABEI and director of the W.B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies; Dr Laura P.Z. de Izarra, coordinator of the W.B. Yeats Chair and advisory member of ABEI; Dr Rosalie R. Haddad, advisory member of ABEI and researcher in the W.B. Yeats Chair, Alessandra Cristina Rigonato, PhD candidate at the University ofSão Paulo, and Eduardo Kumamoto, graduate from the University of São Paulo and Master in Literary Translation at Trinity College Dublin. The discussion, which revolved around the history of the founding of both ABEI and the Chair, and their current developments, was conducted by Dr Mariana Bolfarine, head of ABEI and researcher at the W.B. Type material: PHMBL (holotype), paratypes in PHMBL and USNM according to Schwéger et al. (2015a). Material examined (2♂). Newly reared material deposited in UB with the following data: KOR: 8, Daejeon, Chun- gnam National University campus (South Korea), Ex. sexual galls of Plagiotrochus kunugiphagus, Q. variabilis, (28.x.2017) xi.2017, Roca-Cusachs leg. Distribution. Japan (Hokkaidô and Kyűshű islands) (Schwéger et al. 2015a). First record of this species for South Korea (this paper). Biology. Reared from undescribed acorn galls and unknown bud galls on Q. mongolica and Q. serrata (Schwéger et al. 2015a). The new material included in this paper was reared from sexual galls of Plagiotrochus kunugiphagus on Q. variabilis Blume. Remarks. According to Pénzes et al. Ufo abei Melika & Pujade-Villar Figs 30–39 Diagnosis. Differs from all other Ufo species by the smooth, glabrous head (particularly smooth frons) and the short malar space. The body is uniformly reddish brown to black; the head is transversely ovate; the frons is smooth, shiny; the compound eye 1.1´longer than the malar space; the lower face with sparse white setae (Figs 30–33); notauli are incomplete, extending maximum to the half length of the mesoscutum (Fig. 37); the 2 nd metasomal tergite not or very slightly incised posterodorsally. Distribution and Biology. Known only from Honshu (Hiroshima), Japan; collected from Q. variabilis, from an unknown host (Melika et al. 2005).
