Three-dimensional CFD modeling of transport phenomena in anode-supported planar SOFCs
In this study, a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics model has been developed for an anode-supported planar SOFC. The conservation equations of mass, momentum, species/charges and thermal energy are solved by finite volume method for a complete unit cell consisting of 13 parallel channels in both anode and cathode. The simulation results of the developed model are well in agreement with the experimental data obtained at same conditions. In this study, the co-flow arrangement with hydrogen utilization of 60 % and operating voltage of 0.7 V is used as the base case, and compared with the counter-flow arrangement. The predicted results reveals that the maximum temperature obtained in the counter-flow arrangement is about 10 A degrees C lower than that of co-flow, but the counter-flow arrangement has a higher temperature gradient between the respective anodes and cathodes in a cross-section normal to the main flow direction, especially in the air inlet region of the cell (x = 0.04 m),which is very harmful to the lifetime of materials. The current density is very unevenly distributed along and normal to the flow direction for both the co- and counter-flow arrangements, and the maximum values occur at junctions of the electrodes, channels and ribs, which causes higher over-potentials and ohmic heating
The revision of an orientalist to a reoriented image : Arab women in The Algerian Quartet by Assia Djebar
This thesis focuses on the work of Assis Djebar, one of the greatest representatives of Francophone Maghreb literature. It draws on numerous works on this literature already published by modifying their approach and adding a personal perspective to show how this postcolonial writer renews the representation of Arab women. The first part of this study shows how the popular stereotypes invented by Orientalists reduced women to fantasmatic and aesthetic objects but the contribution of certain theories (postcolonial and feminist) have allowed the deconstruction of this Orientalism and its underlying ideology. The second part shows how Assia Djebar’s writing fits into the postcolonial feminist perspective. The author attributes many Algerian women characters with sensibilities, expressive modes, social and historical roles that make them fully-rounded and complex people. The third part focuses on the self-portrait of the author as a woman of Arab-Berber origin who recognises herself as a cultural and identity hybrid, reflected in the generic, poetic and linguistic innovations of her work

Essays in Matching Theory
This dissertation studies matching theory, and in particular its intersections with bounded rationality and revealed preference theory. In the first chapter, we bring the notion of “satisficing” to matching theory and develop a weaker notion of stability. Satisficing behavior is an alternative to maximizing behavior, where instead of always going for the best, satisficers settle on something that is “good enough”. We say that a matching is satisficing if every agent is matched to an achievable partner. An agent is achievable to another if they are matched in some stable matching. We show that satisficing matchings are Pareto efficient, and we also explore the structure and various properties of the set of satisficing matchings. In the second chapter, we study dynamic decentralized two-sided matching where players’ preferences evolve due to unanticipated experiences. Stability requires no pairwise common belief in blocking, but unanticipated experiences can destabilize matchings. We show the existence of self-confirming outcomes that are stable and do not lead to unanticipated experiences. We propose a decentralized matching process that prioritizes mutual optimal blocking pairs with probability 1−ε and picks any other optimal blocking pair with ε, representing market friction. Frictions are necessary for convergence to self-confirming stable outcomes even without unawareness. We extend our results by allowing communication and show convergence to flirt-proof self-confirming outcomes. In the third chapter, we study the rationalizability of two-sided aggregate matchings with non-transferrable utility by single-peaked preferences, when agents’ preferences are unobserved. This builds on Echenique, Lee, Shum, and Yenmez (2013)’s framework, which considers unrestricted preference domains. In contrast, I restrict preferences to be single-peaked. This is motivated by the fact that many observable characteristics of agents, such as age and income, are naturally ordered. A matching is rationalizable by single-peaked preferences if there exists a single-peaked preference profile such that the observed matching is stable. I find a characterization for such matchings and extend the result to a multidimensional type setting. In the forth chapter, we provide alternative characterizations of rationalizable aggregate matching, based on Echenique, Lee, Shum, and Yenmez (2013) and Demuynck and Salman (2022). Under non-transferrable utility, a matching is rationalizable if and only if every sub-market of the partition of the matching market does not have more couple types than individual types. Under transferable utility, a matching is rationalizable if and only if every sub-market of the partition of the matching market has more individual types than couple types. Such alternative conditions make the revealed preference tests more convenient for empirical research on matching. We also discuss other empirical considerations such as the power of the test and potential issues with data binning. In the fifth chapter, we study the testable implications of stable matchings across different subsets of agents in matching markets. We develop conditions that are analogous to SARP and WARP in consumer theory and conditions that are analogous to persistence under contraction and expansion in revealed preference theory of game theory (as in Sprumont (2000)). We obtain a characterization of rationalizable matching correspondence, which also shed light on the structure of stable matchings
Three-dimensional CFD modeling of transport phenomena in multi-channel anode-supported planar SOFCs
In this study, a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is developed and applied for anode-supported planar SOFC involving multi-channels. The developed model is first validated in agreement with the experimental data obtained at same conditions. Three different flow arrangements (co-, counter- and cross-flow) are simulated and compared in terms of cell overall performance and various transport phenomena occurred inside the SOFC single cell functional components. Local distribution of temperature, mass flow rate, current density, gas concentrations of reactants and products in both fuel and air sides under different flow arrangements is predicted and presented. It is found that the co-flow and counter-flow arrangements have a better performance than that of the cross-flow arrangement at the same operating conditions. It is also found that the temperature for the three flow arrangements is unevenly distributed and the significant temperature gradients exist along the length of the cell. The mass flow rate of fuel at the inlet of each channel is uniform, however its difference between the side channel and the channel at the center is increasing along the fuel flow direction, which reaches a maximum value at the outlet region. It is also predicted that the maximum current density is located at the interfaces between the channels, ribs and the electrodes resulting in a large over-potential and a heat source in the electrodes, which is harmful to the cell overall performance and working life time. Technology innovations and carbon neutrality in technologically advanced economies: imperative agenda for COP26
This article aims to fill the literature gap while examining the role
of green innovation, climate change adaptation technologies,
technological diffusion, and environmentally related tax revenues
in dealing with carbon neutrality among seven technologically
advanced economies (T.A.E.-7) from 1990 to 2018. We employ
advanced panel estimators to address slope heterogeneity and
cross-sectional dependency issues. The long-run results show that
green technological innovations and technological diffusions have
significantly and negatively impacted carbon emissions in sample
countries. Meanwhile, the role of environmental policy is also significant
in addressing environmental vulnerabilities. These findings
suggest that climate tech is imperative to ensure carbon neutrality
in the long run; however, their marginal effects vary in magnitude,
particularly concerning diffusion and adaptation. Similar
results are endorsed using alternative estimators addressing endogeneity
issues and recommending climate tech’s inclusive framework
to support the green growth agenda
