Design and method statement of truss gantry over Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. Justification of the method used
For the access of Bluewater´s Island is required the construction of a 3.7 km multi-span
bridges, which will connect the mentioned island to the interchange number 5½ (exit 29) on
Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) in Dubai, the longest and biggest road in United Arab Emirates. The
main viaduct bridge, which is 25 m wide (reaching up to 37 m in the conection with the Island),
has a total length of 1.4 km and provides full access (by car and by metro) and the electrical,
telecommunication, potable water, irrigation and sewerage services to the island.
The connection of Sheikh Zayed Road to the main bridge is done by several access bridges
(with a width between 11.5 m and 14.4 m and a total length of 1.7 km) and 3 multi-span
bridges over Sheikh Zayed Road, which are 11.5 m wide and aproximately 200 m length each.
Due to that many of these bridges will be constructed over existing live roads, live metro and
utilities and that the constructive process chosen for these bridges is to transfers all the loads
onto the ground by scaffolding, it will be required the used of many and different types of
gantries. These possible solutions are simply supproted gantry (GS25-03, GS08-01 and GS08-
04), portal frame gantry (GS24-03) and truss gantry (GS08-02 and GS08-03).
Based on the efficiency, erection and dismantling, cost and deflection, the aim of this paper is
to study the design and method statement of the different solutions used and to justify their
used
Reseña de Matthew HEDGES (2023): Reinventing the Sheikhdom. Clan, Power and Patronage in Mohammed bin Zayed\u27s UAE, Hurst publishers, London
Reinventing the Sheikhdom: Clan, Power and Patronage in Mohammed bin Zayed\u27s UAE is an investigation into the security strategy of the United Arab Emirates, understood as the "set of measures taken to insulate the political elites from internal and external threats" that could jeopardize their permanence in power. Hedges speaks of a "neopatriarchal state" and "neocorporatist praetorianism" to define a regime with different centers of power isolated from each other and subservient to the government through interpersonal links. Hedges\u27 focus is on the "micro-decisions," the various measures of co-optation and intimidation by Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ) to remain at the top of a complex network where tribal and kinship qualities come into balance with technocratic values.
Japanese eel (Anguilla japonica Temminck & Schlegel, 1846) propagation by using cryopreserved sperm samples
[EN] The aim of this study was to test the artificial seminal plasma (ASP) as the extender as well as methanol as the cryoprotectant for cryopreservation, and to collect information on the fertilizing capacity of cryopreserved sperm samples. Eggs from Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica, females were control-fertilized with native sperm diluted with ASP and cryopreserved sperm (ASP as extender [in 1:100 ratio] and 10% methanol in v/v final concentration). No statistical differences (p<.05) were among the measured parameters (hatching, survival after 10days post-hatch, malformation rates) between the two groups, thus this cryopreservation method can be used effectively for artificial propagation of the Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica.
Generalized Jacobi Transform
Recently, Koornwinder and Walter derived an inversion formula for the finite continuous Jacobi transform for all α,β \u3e -1. This inversion formula generalizes the one obtained earlier by Walter and Zayed for α,β \u3e -1 and α + β is a non-negative integer. In this paper we extend the finite continuous Jacobi transform and its inversion formula as obtained by Koornwinder and Walter to generalized functions. In particular, a fundamental space will be constructed and the generalized transform will be defined on the dual space. Several properties of the generalized transform will be studied along with a generalized inversion formula. Some examples of the finite continuous Jacobi transform and its inversion formula will also be given. © 1993, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved

Spatially-localized time dependent solutions including turbulence and their interactions in 2D Kolmogorov flow
In 2D Kolmogorov flow in small aspect ratio domains, spatially-localized solutions such as kink, traveling or time-dependent kink-antikink pars coexist. However, the conservation of the flow rate in the y direction strongly restrict combination of localized solutions and their positioning. We find that by adding a homogeneous flow U y their positioning is controlled and each of localized solutions including a spatially-localized chaos is isolated. Numerical results suggest that these isolated solutions can be elements constructing a whole flow
Characteristics of overlap region in high-Reynolds number turbulent channel flow
Direct numerical simulation of the fully developed turbulent channel flows have been carried out at the Reynolds number based on the friction velocity and the channel half width, 2000, 4000 and 8000. A hybrid 10th order accurate finite difference scheme in the stream and spanwise directions, and a second-order scheme in the wall-normal direction is adapted as the spatial discretization method. We observed the plateau profiles in the indicator function corresponded to the von Karman constant. Furthermore, second peak of streamwise pre-multiplied spectra were appeared in the same wall normal height, 300 < y+ < 600, in case of Re = 4000. Nevertheless, the effects of the lager than the channel half height scale on the streamwise turbulent intensity are fixed contributions without dependence on Reynolds number. These results suggested that the new streamwise vortexes are formed between buffer layer and outer layer with increasing of Reynolds number
Testing cryopreserved European eel sperm for hybridization (A. japonica × A. anguilla)
[EN] The objective of this study was to assess impact of cryopreserved European eel sperm and Japanese eel native sperm on early fertilization, hatch, survival, and malformation rates of larvae, as well as develop molecular techniques to distinguish different eel species. Eggs from Japanese eel females (Anguilla japonica) were artificially fertilized with sperm of Japanese eel males and cryopreserved sperm from European eel (A. anguilla, extender was modified Tanaka solution and methanol as cryoprotectant). There were no statistical differences (p¿>¿0.05) among the measured parameters such as fertilization, hatch and survival after 10 days post-hatch rates due to large individual differences. The malformation rate of larvae compared to the hatching rate was higher in cryopreserved groups than in the control indicating that the methodology needs further refinement. Genetic analyses (PCR-RFLP, PCR-HRM) proved a clear result in the detection of paternal contribution in hybridization between the Japanese and the European eel and applied PCR-HRM method is a quick and cost effective tool to identify illegally imported A. anguilla at the glass eel stage, which can be transported from Europe to Asia. The research was supported by The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)/Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Kakenhi Grant No.15K07562 and Tokyo University of Agriculture Strategic Research Program (TUA-SRP), Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund (grant number 12252178), GINOP-2.3.2-15-2016-00054 project of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office of Hungary and EFOP-3.6.3-VEKOP-16-2017-00008 project.
