Breast Cancer Awareness Among Zayed University Female Students
No full textBackground/Aim: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among female population worldwide. In the United Arab Emirates, breast cancer accounts for 31-43% of all cancer types. Recently, breast cancer incidence has declined as a result of development of better diagnostic techniques. Good knowledge and awareness about early detection of signs and symptoms of the disease are the most important keys for reducing morbidity and mortality. This study aims to evaluate the level of awareness about the risk factors of breast cancer, as well as, the knowledge about screening methods among female students at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi. Method: A random cross-sectional survey was carried to evaluate the level of awareness about breast cancer among female students at Zayed University. A total of 100 females aged 18–31 from different colleges were included in the study. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21 program. Chi- square test was used together with Fisher’s exact test, as appropriate. P value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: The results show that there is a lack of knowledge and awareness about the risk factors for breast cancer. Only 12% of the participants knew that physical inactivity is a risk factor. However, 29% of the participants knew that obesity is a risk factor. Knowledge about screening methods was poor and varied according to the marital and educational status of the students. Only 17% of the total participants have done breast self-examination. Single women had less frequently performed breast self-examination compared to married women Although 40% of the participants knew about ultra sound, only 22% of the students did have the knowledge about the proper age of mammogram screening. Conclusion: The results point to the lack of awareness among female students about breast cancer, the risk factors and screening methods. Therefore, effective educational programs are required to improve the knowledge level of university students regarding breast cancer and related practices.</jats:p

Vitamin K and women\u27s health: a review
No full textVitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin essential in various physiological functions such as blood coagulation, bone metabolism, cardiovascular health, glucose regulation, immune function, neuroprotection, and vascular health. In this narrative review, studies from databases including PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and the institutional database of Zayed University were selected. The role of vitamin K in women\u27s health, with a focus on osteoporosis, postmenopausal health, cardiovascular health, diabetes, cancer, kidney health, brain health, vascular health, and pregnancy were explored. The role of vitamin K in activating vitamin K-dependent proteins is essential for many of its functions. Vitamin K-dependent proteins such as osteocalcin and matrix gla protein are crucial to many physiological processes such as bone mineralization, vascular calcification, and cardiovascular health. It also modulates glucose metabolism by enhancing insulin sensitivity, reducing oxidative stress, and influencing β-cell function. Vitamin K exhibits anti-cancer properties in cancer research, particularly in breast, cervical, and ovarian cancer models. It also plays a role in brain health including cognitive function, neuroinflammation reduction, and neurodegenerative disease prevention. Similarly in kidney diseases, vitamin K has been linked to chronic kidney disease progression and vascular calcification. Vitamin K\u27s role in pregnancy includes its impact on neonatal coagulation and neurodevelopmental outcomes. Despite the promising role of vitamin K, findings are mixed on its role in bone mineral density and fracture prevention, cardiovascular protection, protection against vascular calcification, diabetes prevention, cancer risk, kidney dysfunction, and its role in maternal and child health. These highlight the need for further research, particularly longitudinal and randomized controlled trials, to determine optimal intake, efficacy of supplementation, and long-term health impacts of vitamin K in women
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Temperature dependence of the pressure induced monoclinic distortion in the spin S=1/2 Shastry–Sutherland compound SrCu2(BO3)2
No full textWe investigate the monoclinic distortion that occurs at 4.7 GPa at room temperature in the frustrated Shastry-Sutherland model quantum magnet SrCu 2(BO3)2 as a function of pressure and temperature by means of powder and single crystal angle dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Our results indicate that the onset of the structural distortion varies in a narrow pressure range between ~4.0 and 5.0 GPa. This result will be useful in order to distinguish between magnetic transitions related to structural changes and potential intrinsic quantum phase transitions that various reports have suggested to take place in SrCu2(BO 3)2 at high pressure and low temperature.Swiss National Science Foundation grant (No. 200021-1080).Scopu
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Expanding “Communities and Collections” in the K-State Research Exchange (K-REx) to benefit the K-State Community and Beyond
No full textKansas State University has used its institutional repository, the K-State Research Exchange (K-REx), to store and share its first year experience program, K-State First, and notably its common reading program, K-State First Book. We have done so with the aim that the accessibility and preservation of these documents ensures program stability, promotes engagement with first year programming, and provides the ability to foster growth,educational opportunities, and community building outside of K-State. Moving away from research concentrated repositories and taking a more holistic approach to scholarship, especially when realizing the pedagogical significance of collaborative campus programming, institutions can showcase, discover, preserve, and grow programs that shape campus communities and engagement.
This session will provide an overview of K-REx and spotlight the digital archive of the university’s first year experience program and common reading program, K-State First Book. We will discuss the benefits and challenges to expanding the purview of your repositories. We talkthrough the types of materials we decide to host in our repository and why we share what we do. We will also provide recommendations on new ways to evaluate what belongs in institutional repositories and how this diversity can benefit your program, your institution, the community, and others
