As a composer, Frank Zappa constantly engaged with his surroundings. A tireless critic of society and politics, he pronounced his accusations, both musical and verbal, with audacity. The true son of the Dadaist movement, Zappa cultivated his freedom of expression with great fervor. Since his beginnings in 1966, his lyrics were direct and intense, eschewing a subtler or "safer" approach. Divided into ten short chapters (from F to A), the present paper takes a Polaroid snapshot of this guerilla guitarist-jester's political art
From unstructured data and word vectorization to meaning: text mining in insurance
By exploiting Natural Language Processing techniques we aim at grasping latent information useful for insurance to tune policy premiums. By using a large set of police reports, we classify medical and police reports based upon the profile of the people involved and according to the relevance of their content. At a second step, we match these risks with the customer profiles of a company in order to add new and relevant risk covariates to improve the precision and the determination of policy premiums
From accounting to Economia Aziendale: innovation in the thought of Gino Zappa (Italy, 1879-1960)
In the Italian accounting history tradition, Gino Zappa (1879-1960) is considered the scholar that have most contributed to major innovations in academic accounting and management research in Italy in the first half of twentieth century. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of differ-ences in accounting innovation across countries by shedding light on the significance of the research contribution of Gino Zappa
Avalanche Current Waveform Estimated From Electroluminescence in InGaAs/InP SPADs
We demonstrated that the avalanche current waveform in InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) can be estimated from the measurement of the electroluminescence emitted by the SPAD itself. We simultaneously acquired and compared both optical and electrical waveforms and we extracted the dependence of avalanche current on electroluminescence, showing that the number of collected photons is almost proportional to the number of carriers flowing through the p-n junction, whereas the excess bias (that sets the electric field in the multiplication region when the avalanche is triggered) has a negligible impact. This non-invasive optical technique for estimating the avalanche current can be used when the electrical measurements of the SPAD current are not feasible
Growths and diffusions for InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diodes
In this paper we discuss some of the main characteristics and limitations of the fabrication process forInGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diodes. The effects of minimum doping levels during semiconductorgrowths and the influence of wafer miscut on the dopant incorporation are analyzed with the support of experimental measurements on test wafers. The Zinc diffusion process is thoroughly analyzed and herewe present and compare experimental results from diffusion tests at different wafer temperatures andprecursor gas flows. In addition, double Zinc diffusion tests at high and low temperatures are discussed. Finally, the effects of the mask aperture on the Zinc diffusion depth have been measured, showing oppositetrends at high and low diffusion temperatures
On Universal Holomorphic Functions
Dark Count Rate Dependence on Bias Voltage During Gate-OFF in InGaAs/InP Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes
We characterized the dependence of the dark count rate (DCR) of InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diodes on the bias voltage during the OFF time when operated in gated mode. When the OFF bias voltage is too low, there is a strong increment of DCR particularly at temperatures . Measurements of DCR at different gate periods show that this effect is not related to afterpulsing, but to primary carrier generation. We infer that it is due to trapping at the heterobarrier and subsequent release of holes thermally generated in the InGaAs layer
