ECOLOGICAL, ECONOMICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF DEVELOPMENT. DECOMPOSITION ANALYSIS OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION RELATED TO CO2 EMISSIONS IN ECUADOR

    No full text
Decomposition Analysis (DA) is widely applied in understanding changes of economical, technological, environmental, and different indicators as energy consumption, employment and other socio-economic indicators. This work discusses the DA methodology and is applied within Ecuadorian case. We present the used technique, the applied mathematical methodology and the construction of an appropriate identity to measure the change of CO2 emission in Ecuador during the period of 1980-2025. Change is measured in both macro and disaggregated sectorial level. Specific aspects related to the application of DA to both the historical period (1980-2010) and in medium term prevision (2011-2025) for four proposed macro scenarios are discussed. The findings show that the evolution of the BS scenario, which implies a trend-growth GDP scenario, is almost a flat curve, however the CO2 emission increases steadily because of the absence of attenuation measurements. A similar behavior, although slightly sloping down, is observed for SC-2 scenario, where a rapid growth of the GDP is assumed without any attenuation action regarding to CO2 emissions. The other two scenarios, SC-3 and SC-4 show a steady reduction of the Dtot = Dact ratio due to the changes in the sectorial structure and in the energy mix, which allows compensation of rapid GDP growth. This analysis suggests that, with the appropriate changes in the energy mix, the sectorial structure, and the share of renewable energies, Ecuador can move into a more environmentally sustainable state.</jats:p

High-growth firms’ behavior in Latam: the case of ICT sector in Ecuador

    No full text
The work aims to study the High-Growth Companies (HGF) of the ICT sector in Quito-Ecuador and contribute to improve the understanding of the behavior of HGFs in the LATAM region by presenting empirical evidence. A tripod approach is used focusing on the Resource-based view with the test of 7 hypotheses over a case study. In addition, a contextualized survey for the case was carried out to cover both the Institution and the Industrial based view. A multivariate analysis was performed to explore what factors allow us to understand the high-growth behavior. The results show that 4 of the 7 hypotheses were accepted. The correlations between profitability, leverage, liquidity, innovation, and sales growth are relatively "low" but "statistically significant." An explanation is given according to the theoretical framework built. Otherwise, factors such as: solvency, infrastructure (machinery and equipment), exports “did not present statistically significant correlation”

Regional Cooperation in Dealing with Environmental Protection. E-government and Sustainable Development in Andean Countries

    No full text
E-government for Sustainable Development is one of international cooperation strategy in dealing with environmental protection and ecological problems through enhanced citizen participation, better access and quality of services in order to achieve Green Governments. In this context, some countries are supported by international assistance to achieve this goal with benchmarking and benchlearning approaches. This research contributes to explain the relationship between improvements in governance influences in economic, social and environmental development and how such regional cooperation on the development of national information and communication technology (ICT) strategies and programs is related to E-government and Sustainable Development. This comparative study of Andean countries takes a Rational Neo-institutionalist perspective to look at longitudinal changes in these developing countries. Quantitative data such as E-government index is combined with qualitative information from reports and documents in order to empirically examine effects of e-government on sustainable development in these countries. The findings show that the strategies adopted by Ecuador have significantly contributed to its location within the references in progress of Egovernment and Sustainable Development in the region. The research suggests that E-government development has positive effects on better governance and sustainable development of Andeans countries. Advancement on E-government is not only a trait of developed countries but also serves as an enabler for sustainable development of developing countries

Kvalifikācijas darba temats: 5-6 gadīgu bērnu lasītprasmes sekmēšana didaktiskajās spēlēs. Darba autore: Irina Aņiščenko Zinātniskā vadītāja: Aija Kalve Kvalifikācijas darbs izstrādāts ar mērķi teorētiski pētīt un empīriski pamatot 5-6 gadīgu bērnu lasītprasmes apguves sekmēšanu didaktiskās spēlēs. Lai sasniegtu doto mērķi, teorētiski pētīts tāds jautājums kā lasītprasmes jēdziens, nosakot konkrētās prasmes, kādas bērnam ir jāapgūst, lai varētu iemācīties lasīt, tāpat sniegts bērnu vecumposma raksturojums pētījuma kontekstā un aplūkota didaktisko spēļu izmantošana lasītprasmju sekmēšanai. Darba autore teorētiskās daļas izstrādē balstās gan jau uz klasisku un latviešu zinātniskajās aprindās pazīstamu autoru darbiem (A. Ptičkina, D. Dzintare, I.Stangaine, G. Svence, Ļ. Vigotskis, P. Galperins, V. Muhina, D. Elkoņins u.c.), gan uz jaunākajiem zinātniskajiem pētījumiem (A.Lacerda etc, S. Punkonejs u.c.). Empīriskajā daļā darba autore sniedz pārskatu par veikto praktisko pētījumu, padziļināti raksturo bērnu lasītprasmes pamatu apguves līmeni, kā arī piedāvā virkni didaktisko rotaļu, kas ļauj bērniem vieglāk iegaumēt burtus, veidot zilbes, noteikt skaņu esamību vārdā u.c. prasmes, kas apgūstamas piecu gadu vecumā. Empīriskā pētījuma rezultāti parāda, ka piecgadīgiem bērniem galvenās grūtības sagādā vārdu dalīšana zilbēs un patskaņu nošķiršana no līdzskaņiem, arī burtu apguve nav pietiekami noturīga, bērni nereti jauc vizuāli vai pēc skaņas līdzīgus burtus (balsīgo – nebalsīgo). Trīs mēnešu ilgā periodā īstenoto 16 didaktisko spēļu rezultātā ievērojami uzlabojās visi lasītprasmes radītāji, četri bērni jau bija sākuši patstāvīgi lasīt atsevišķus vārdus. Tas apliecina pētījumā izmantot didaktisko spēļu efektivitāti un ļauj apstiprināt sākotnēji izvirzīto hipotēzi: 5-6 gadus vecu bērnu lasītprasme didaktiskajās spēles tiks sekmēta, ja: didaktiskās spēles atbildīs bērnu vecumposmam un interesēm; spēļu saturs un noteikumi ietvers lasītprasmes iemaņu attīstību; spēles tiks organizētas regulāri. Kvalifikācijas darba apjoms: 51 lpp., ietver 5 tabulas, 8 attēlus, izmantoti 59 literatūras avoti, pievienoti 2 pielikumi. Atslēgas vārdi: didaktiskā spēle, lasītprasme, vecumposma īpatnības, lasītprasmes sekmēšana.Theme of the qualification work: improving reading skills for 5-6 year-old children in didactic games. Author of work: Irina Aniscenko Scientific supervisor: Aija Kalve The qualification work was designed with the aim of theoretically studying and empirically justifying the improvement of reading skills of children aged 5-6 in didactic games. In order to achieve this goal, a theoretically studied subject such as the concept of reading skills, identifying the specific skills that a child needs to learn in order to be able to learn to read, it also provides characteristics of this age of the child in the context of the study and examines the use of the didactic games for promoting reading skills. The author of the work based theoretical part on the works of well-known classical and Latvian authors (A. Ptickina, D. Dzintare, I. Stangaine, G. Svence, L. Vigotsky, P. Galperin, V. Muhina, D. Elkonin and others. ) and on recent scientific research (A. Lacerda, S. Punkoney, etc.). In the empirical part the author provides an overview of practical research carried out, in-depth characterize children's reading skill foundation level, as as well as offering a series of didactic games that allow children easier memorize letters, create syllables, determine the presence of sound in the word, etc. skills, that are advised to be acquired at the age of five. The results of the empirical study show that for five-year-old children, the main difficulty is the division of words into syllables and the separation of vowels from consonants, also the letter learning is not sufficiently stable, children often confuse visually or by sound similar letters (voiced - voiceless). During three-month period author implemented 16 didactic games and as a result significantly improved all literacy indicators, four children had already begun to read independently a few words. This confirms the effectiveness of the didactic games in the study and allows us to confirm the hypothesis originally proposed: improvement of reading skills for 5-6 year-old children in didactic games will be promoted if: didactic games will meet interest of children and be age appropriate; content and rules of the game will include the development of literacy skills; games will be organized on a regular basis. Amount of work: 51 pages., Includes 5 tables, 8 pictures, used 59 sources of literature, added 2 annexes. Keywords: didactic game, reading skills, specifications of the age group, improving reading skills
