Lightweight construction materials: Mortar reinforced with date-palm mesh fibres
Nowadays, research on sustainable buildings is devoted to materials which offer advantages in terms of recyclability, low cost, environmentally-friendly features, no toxicity, biodegradability and good mechanical performance. The lightweight construction materials composed by a cement-based matrix reinforced with vegetal fibres are able to satisfy the above statements. In the present paper, the physical, mechanical and fracture properties of a cement-based mortar reinforced with date-palm mesh (DPM) fibres is experimentally analysed. The results obtained show that the positive effect of such fibres on the ductility/weight mortar performance increases by increasing the fibre content
Investigation on crack nucleation location in fretting-affected Al 7050-T7451 alloy
The present paper deals with the estimation of the crack nucleation orientation in fretting-affected Al 7050-T7451 specimens, subjected to cylindrical contact in partial slip regime. In such a context, cracks are generally assumed to nucleate at the contact trailing edge. However, experimental evidences of cracks starting within the contact zone are available in the literature. Therefore, a parametric study on the crack nucleation location is performed in the present work by using an analytical methodology. Four different crack nucleation locations on the contact surface are examined, starting from the contact trailing edge and moving inside the micro-slip region
Effect of rolling on fretting fatigue assessment of cylindrical contact in partial slip regime
A novel analytical procedure for fatigue strength assessment and lifetime estimation of AM metallic components
Influence of hot-spot on crack path and lifetime estimation of fretting-affected steel components
The crack nucleation orientation of fretting-affected components made of AISI1034 steel and 35NCD16 steel is analysed in the present paper. In particular, both cylinder-to-flat and sphereto-flat contact configurations in partial slip regime are simulated by means of an analytical methodology based on elastic assumptions. Different crack nucleation locations on the contact surface are considered in order to estimate both the crack nucleation orientation and the lifetime. Satisfactory results are obtained by employing such a methodology, especially when both the stress state within the specimen and the relative slip between the specimen and the pad are taken into account in the fretting assessment procedure
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
