No full textEr is een archeologisch bureauonderzoek uitgevoerd voor een terrein tussen de Bergstraat en de Klokkenstraat te Loon op Zand, gemeente Loon op Zand, provincie Noord-Brabant (Figuur 1). De aanleiding is de geplande bestemmingsplanwijziging van het terrein. Het betreft de nieuwbouw van het 'Van Lierpark', een complex van 66 woningen. Deze ingrepen betekenen een bedreiging voor eventueel aanwezige archeologische waarden.
Gespecificeerd archeologisch verwachtingsmodel (KNA 4.1: LS05)
Gezien de ligging van het plangebied binnen de historische kern van Loon op Zand, de bekende archeologische waarden in de omgeving en de bodemkundige opbouw (esdek en podzolbodem) heeft het plangebied een hoge verwachting voor archeologische waarden uit de steentijd tot en met de nieuwe tijd. Archeologische indicatoren uit de periode steentijd tot en met romeinse tijd kunnen onder andere bestaan uit bewerkt vuursteen, aardewerk houtskool en metaal. Uit de nieuwe tijd zijn enkele bouwwerken bekend uit het plangebied die reeds verdwenen zijn. Eventuele resten hiervan (zoals puin, aardewerk en metaal) kunnen aanwezig zijn vanaf het maaiveld.

Het gespecificeerd archeologisch verwachtingsmodel geeft voldoende aanleiding om archeologisch vervolgonderzoek in de vorm van een inventariserend booronderzoek te adviseren. Wij adviseren dit voor alle deelgebieden in het plangebied. Het bureauonderzoek heeft geen resultaten opgeleverd die aanleiding geven tot het bijstellen van de archeologische verwachting. Met een booronderzoek kan worden vastgesteld of er restanten van een esdek en/of een intacte podzolbodem aanwezig zijn binnen het plangebied. Ook kunnen archeologische indicatoren zoals bewerkt vuursteen of aardewerk hiermee opgespoord worden. Daarnaast kan een booronderzoek inzicht geven in hoeverre er nog resten aanwezig zijn van de historische bebouwing. De gemeente Loon op Zand moet bepalen of ze dit advies al dan niet overneemt.
In alle gevallen geldt dat indien bij toekomstig graafwerk toch archeologische vondsten worden gedaan of archeologische grondsporen worden aangetroffen, hiervan direct melding dient te worden gemaakt bij de minister conform de Erfgoedwet 2015, artikelen 5.10 & 5.11. Wij adviseren dit te doen bij de gemeente Loon op Zand

No full textIn opdracht van Jansen Bouwontwikkeling BV is een archeologisch bureau- en booronderzoek uitgevoerd voor een terrein tussen de Bergstraat en de Klokkenstraat te Loon op Zand, gemeente Loon op Zand. De aanleiding is de geplande bestemmingsplanwijziging van het terrein. Het betreft de nieuwbouw van het 'Van Lierpark', een complex van 66 woningen. Deze ingrepen betekenen een bedreiging voor eventueel aanwezige archeologische waarden. Het plangebied ligt (deels) in de historische kern van Loon op Zand en heeft derhalve een hoge trefkans op archeologische waarden uit de middeleeuwen tot de nieuwe tijd. In het plangebied is waarschijnlijk een dik akkerdek aanwezig waaronder ook sporen uit de steentijd tot en met de vroege middeleeuwen, goed bewaard kunnen zijn gebleven. Naar verwachting is de bodem binnen grote delen van het plangebied ingrijpend verstoord ten gevolge van bouw- en sloopactiviteiten die hebben plaatsgevonden met betrekking tot de voormalige schoenenfabriek van Van Lier. Om na te gaan hoe de bodem is opgebouwd binnen het plangebied en in hoeverre deze nog voldoende intact is om behoudenswaardige archeologische resten te kunnen bevatten, is een verkennend booronderzoek uitgevoerd in een dichtheid van zes boringen per hectare. Uit de resultaten van het booronderzoek blijkt dat binnen het plangebied oorspronkelijk podzolbodems zijn gevormd. Hiervan zijn in zes van de twintig boringen nog resten aangetroffen. Op zes van de twintig boorpunten bleek nog een deels intact akkerdek aanwezig te zijn van ruim een halve, tot bijna één meter dikte. Op de helft van de boorpunten blijkt de bodem echter dermate diep verstoord te zijn ten gevolge van bouw- en sloopwerkzaamheden dat hier redelijkerwijs geen behoudenswaardige archeologische resten meer te verwachten zijn
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Numerical analysis of finite strain in the warm zand structure
No full text>Magister Scientiae - MScThis research project had two different parts: The first was about the mapping of a section of the Warm Zand Structure and the collection of strain data. The second part focused on the analysis of the finite strain and strain pattern in the Warm Zand Structure. The Warm Zand Structure consists of strongly deformed calc-silicates of the Puntsit formation and feldpathic quarzites of the Goede Hoop formation which gradually change into pure quartzites in some locations. The second phase of folding F2 in the calc-silicates gave open folds. Strain markers are very scarce in the Warm Zand Structure; on the Emmanuel Farm pebbles were not found. However on the Compion Farm, pebbles are scattered and occur in few number. In the study area boudins were found in loose rocks hence they could not be used to estimate orientation of the XY plane of the strain ellipsoid (Ramsay, 1967). Folds on the other hand was common and was used to investigate the bulk shortening of the rocks and to understand the kinematical folding mechanisms involved in the folding process of the rock in the Warm Zand Structure. The strain contour map and the Sherwin and Chapple graph were used to investigate the strain and viscosity contrast respectively. The viscosity contrast of the folds collected in the Puntsit falls between 100-53 whereas the bulk shortening on the other hand is between 60-53%. The values of the shortening found agree with those found by van Bever Donker (1980). The numerical modelling on the other demonstrated that in addition to layer parallel shortening and the flattening mention by van Bever Donker (1980) Tangential Longitudinal Strain and Flexural Flow are also involved in the folding process of the fold collected in the Puntsit Formation
"Closing the R&D Gap, Evaluating the Sources of R&D Spending"

Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.
Faint galactic X-ray binaries
No full textWe present a short overview of the properties of faint Galactic X‐ray binaries. We place emphasis on current classification scenarios. One of the important parameters for the faint sources is their intrinsic luminosity. In the case of low‐mass X‐ray binaries it has recently been realised that besides a phase of radius expansion, the duration of type I X‐ray bursts can be used as a primer for the source luminosity in some cases. Further, we show that a very low equivalent width of hydrogen and helium emission lines in the optical spectrum alone is not a tell‐tale sign for an ultra‐compact system. Finally, we list and discuss some unusual sources that could be X‐ray binaries
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
