    No full text
The challenges of globalisation require the formation of a society that is resilient, competitive and able to cope well with various changes and modernisation of the world. Therefore, strengthening the identity of individuals, especially Muslim students, through the application of Islamic approach elements must be implemented to ensure the country is able to produce high quality human capital, people who are good in doing business and have a strong religious knowledge. A1-Quran as manhaj rabbani offers solutions to various problems such as shaping students discipline. Thus, this study aims to study the values ??of discipline found in Surah Yusuf and analyse the approaches mentioned in the surah in dealing with students with disciplinary problems. This study uses a qualitative approach in the form of content analysis. The study sample involves the verses of the Qur'an in Surah Yusuf related to disciplinary values ??and the data is analysed deductively and thematically. The study found four disciplinary themes in Surah Yusuf based on faith, morals, shariah and psychic guidance. The results of the study found that five approaches namely the construction of faith; parental guidance; personality formation; direction and guidance; and the psychiatric approach produced based on the study of Surah Yusuf must be applied by various parties to deal with students with disciplinary problems. The implication of this study on educational programs is to produce students who have a noble personality, who make Qur'an as a guide in life, who apply noble values ??and morals in their actions and association with others thus reducing their risk of getting involved in disciplinary problems

Since Mayer and Salovey introduced the concept of the teacher’s emotional intelligence in the 1990's, studies on it have gained traction among researchers. Instruments and questionnaires assessing emotional intelligence have been developed as part of survey studies based on Western and modern theories of emotional intelligence and have received widespread attention in research and treatment, including for the purpose of resolving emotional problems among Muslim teachers. The aim of this pilot study was to generate empirical evidence regarding the validity and reliability of a teacher-created Emotional Intelligence item based on Surah Yusuf. The study enrolled 70 Muslim teachers at a national secondary school in Kota Tinggi, Johor, using simple random sampling methods. Validity and reliability of the Teacher's Emotional Intelligence instrument in Surah Yusuf are determined using the Model Rasch app in conjunction with Winstep version 3.73 software. Cronbach’s Alpha for the item was 0.98, according to the analysis. The item has an individual reliability index of 0.96 and an item reliability index of 0.91. The PTMEA-CORR value for the item polarity test was positive, indicating that items for each construct can move parallel to one another. Despite the fact, item matching test (fit item) revealed that nine items had to be dropped due to an out-of-range MNSQ. The study discovered that 101 out of 110 items could be used to assess the four constructs of the teacher's emotional intelligence in Surah Yusuf. Overall, it is critical to ensure that the Teacher's Emotional Intelligence instrument based on Surah Yusuf is legal and reliable before it can be used to assess the emotional intelligence of Muslim teachers

To evaluate the outcomes on short-term cognitive function in post CABG patients and to identify its risk factors. This is a prospective cohort study. Forty three patients subjected for CABG between March 2011 to July 2012 were enrolled in this study. Their cognitive function preoperative and 1 week postoperatively were documented with CANTAB®. The sociodemographic, medical and procedure characteristics were recorded in the data form. The total of 40 patients’ cognitive function were assessed and recorded before operation and at 1 week interval after CABG. There were impairment noted (>20% from baseline value) in three subtest of CANTAB® during post-operative period, with Intra/Extradimensional (IED) test 35% (n=14), Paired Associate Learning (PAL) test 35% (n—14) and Stop Signal Task (SST) test 27.5% (n—11) of the total subject. There were no significant correlation of these cognitive changes (P>0.05) with few variables such as age, education level, type of procedure, duration of anesthesia, surgery, CPB and rewarming, and also rate of rewarming. A presence of cognitive decline at 1 week interval post-operatively was observed among patient subjected for CABG. The main domains involved were executive function and visual memory. Thus pre-procedural details should be address to the patients in term of this neurocognitive impairment. In this study, there was no confounding factor noted related to cognitive changes

INTRODUCTION: Health service is one of the industries which provide a continuous around the clock service, for the benefit of the community. Nurses as part of health care professional are required to work day and night to fulfill the needs of the sick. Shift works are commonly classified into rotating shifts, displaced work-hours and irregular shifts. Of the three categories of shift work, rotating shifts are of particular concern to nurses. The rotating schedule that they work may interfere with their normal biological or social diurnal rhythms or both. Shift work has been found to be associated with physical, psychological and social health problems. OBJECTIVES: The study was done to determine relationships between shift work with physical and psychosocial health symptoms among HUSM staff nurses. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 146 shift workers and 58 non-shift workers of HUSM nursing staff. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaire consisting of six parts which include demographic data, working condition, physical and psychosocial health status and the last part is a Malay version of Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS 21 ). Chi-square test or Fisher Exact Test was performed to determine the significant difference of categorical variables between shift and non-shift workers. RESULTS: On physical health symptoms, there was association between shift work with reproductive problems. There was no association between problems of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, menstrual regularity, general ill feelings and chronic fatigue syndrome among shift and non-shift staff nurses in HUSM. The prevalence of accidents and injuries among shift workers was higher than non-shift workers; however the difference was statistically not significant. On psychosocial health aspect, there was no significant difference in the sleep problems and disturbances that cause sleep difficulty between the shift and non-shift workers. Although there were no significant difference in the perceived quality of sleep among the two workers group but the value of poor sleep quality was higher amoog shift workers. There was a significant association between shift work and problems of child care, relationship with partners, depression and stress symptoms. CONCLUSION: There were associations between shift work and reproductive problems, problems with child care and relationship with partner as well as the symptoms of depression and stress among HUSM staff nurses. These issues require immediate remedial actions on the part of hospital and nursing administration

Biogranulation technology using aerobic granules is one of the most important discoveries in the field of wastewater treatment. This advanced technology is better than conventional wastewater treatment method because it is cost-effective and space-reduced. The evolution of aerobic granules from seed sludge to granules in sequencing batch reactor system was studied in this study. The purposes of this study are to measure the size of aerobic granules over time and to determine the settling velocity of the aerobic granules against time. The sequencing batch reactor system was operated in four processes involved feeding, aeration, settling and withdraw. The bioreactor was inoculated with seed sludge sample taken from wastewater treatment plant in Arau, Perlis and run at room temperature. Synthetic wastewater containing acetate and other elements were used to feed the biomass in the bioreactor system. The aerobic granules started to be detected in the sequencing batch reactor after two weeks of operation. The aerobic granules in size categories (>0.20.40.6 mm) had increased over the time. An increase of settling velocity (29.8 m/h) was observed in this present study. These findings demonstrate that the increase of aerobic granules size and settling velocity were important in determining the evolution of aerobic granules study

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the predisposing factors for increased morbidity and mortality rate in Malaysia as it significantly contributes to the risk of non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney injuries. Non-pharmacological intervention such as physical activity (PA) helps to reduce the progression of hypertension severity and body mass index (BMI) among hypertensive patients. Limited studies were conducted among hypertensive patients at outpatient clinics in the east-coast region of Malaysia. Objective: To determine the level of PA and BMI of hypertensive patients attending outpatient clinics. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using purposive sampling. The study was conducted among 73 hypertensive patients who attended the outpatient clinic at a tertiary hospital in Kelantan state, the Northern East of Malaysia. Data was collected using a self -reported questionnaires for BMI and hypertension and the short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to measure the level of PA. Results: The findings show that most of the respondents above 50 years old are moderately active (54.8%, n=40) and nearly half (45.2%, n=33) were overweight. There is no significant association between the level of PA and BMI (p=0.854). A significant association was only found between the respondents’ marital status and their BMI (p=0.034). Conclusion: The majority of the respondents in the study were moderately active in performing physical activity and within the category of overweight. PA and BMI are not significantly associated in the study. The non-significance findings could be due to the small sample size in this study and other contributing factors such as co-morbidities, lifestyle variables including dietary habits, and sedentary behaviour that were not investigated in the study. Overall, the study underlined the importance of physical activity and body mass index in achieving public health recommendations.
