    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     The establishment of safety practices conceptual framework for collapse accident in improving the construction site management: a case study for building & infrastructure works in Pulau Pinang / Muhammad Syahir Yusof@Abdullah

    Currently in Malaysia, cases of construction site accidents increase rapidly. This is due to building and infrastructure of construction work are exposed to too many risks and collapse accidents that contributed to many severe and fatal injuries every year. Thus, the objectives of this research are to determine the main causes of collapse accident, to investigate the main attributes of safety practice as a prevention tool for collapse accidents and to establish the safety practices conceptual framework for collapse accident in improving the construction site management. The data were collected through questionnaires survey from 30 respondents and analysed using SPSS Software version 23.0 using ranking analysis based on mean and standard deviation value. Besides, direct observation method was used and the data were analysed using frequency analysis. Then, the results found that majority of the total respondents agreed that the most critical main causes of collapse accidents are collapse accidents are management, unique nature of the industry, human element and unsafe method. Besides, the safety practices attributes were matched with suitable main causes by followed the result from synthesised of literature review. From the survey result, it was found that, there are four (4) priority safety practice attributes for every causes of collapse accident. Finally, all the findings will be used to develop a safety practices conceptual framework for collapse accidents at construction sites as a guideline to construction practitioners especially for the contractors to monitor and take action in the future construction activities to reduce collapse accidents in generally as one of the imposed safety at the construction sites especially in the building and infrastructure works

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Fabrication and characterisation of aluminium boron carbide composites for neutron shielding

    Al/B4C composites with 0 wt.%, 5 wt.% and 10 wt.% of B4C were prepared by powder metallurgy and their properties were characterised successfully. Investigation of the effect of milling times (4, 8, 12, 16 hours) on microstructure, phase identification, hardness and neutron attenuation coefficient of composites has been studied. The results showed that hardness increased with increased of milling time, with maximum hardness obtained at 16 hours milling time. The increment is slower as the composition of B4C increased. The hardness of Al/10%B4C, Al/5%B4C and Al/0%B4C were 81.7, 78.7 and 61.2 HRB respectively. Morphology of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that microstructures play important role in controlling the hardness. Meanwhile, x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed the phases and crystalline present in composites with an indication that crystalline of the grain increased as the milling time increased. Neutron absorption of Al/10%B4C composites showed that this composite has the highest attenuation coefficient, thus indicating that it is the best composites for neutron shielding

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    Effects of 3.0 MeV electron irradiation on 4H-SiC wafer properties

    Effects of 3 MeV electron (10 mA) irradiation at room temperature on the phase, microstructure, electrical and life time properties of 4H-SiC wafer were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), four point probe current-voltage measurements and positron annihilation spectroscopy. It was found that irradiation damage in SiC wafer is significantly increased with the increase of radiation dose as observed in SEM. Irradiation also resulted in modification of crystallite size as identified by XRD. The resistance of a sample before irradiation was found to be 0.8 M?, whereas for a sample irradiated at 200 kGy, the resistance as measured by four point probe was 5.2 M?. It seems that the increase of resistance hence, reduction in conductivities could be due to defects induced by the radiation dose received then created leakage currents at both reverse and low-forward biases and creation of traps in the SiC. Meanwhile positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) was used to analyse the life time of irradiated samples which nonetheless shows that all irradiated sample have similar life time of 151 ps. It was observed that that no degradation process of materials experienced by SiC wafer irradiated at 500 kGy
