Development of Diabetes Self Care Assessment Tool (D-SCAT): Conceptualization and Assessment of Self-Care in a Real Life Setting
Development and Validation of the Person-Centered Care Self-Assessment Tool (PCCSAT) Using Nursing Documentation Approach
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to develop a valid and reliable self-assessment instrument using a 5-point Likert scale that enables Registered Nurses (RNs) at KPJ Group of Hospitals utilize systematic
self- reflection and evaluate the quality of their person-centred care documentation.
METHODOLOGY: This study employed a mixed-method design to develop and validate the
Person-Centered Care Self-Assessment Tool (PCCSAT). It is part of a broader research measuring PCC documentation skills of RNs at KPJ Hospitals. Data were collected from March – May 2024. The item constructs were developed based on the McCormick PCC Documentation Framework and subsequently validated by a panel of four academic experts, who reviewed and provided feedback on their relevance, clarity, and comprehensiveness. The finalized instrument was then administered to a selected group of Registered Nurses (RNs) from KPJ Hospitals enrolled in the post-basic program on campus.
RESULTS: There are final 31 self-assessment items generated for PCCSAT. The pilot test involving 33 participants demonstrated good internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.965. However, due to the small sample size, these findings should consider preliminary, and additional validation with a larger sample is necessary.
CONCLUSION: The pilot test provides valuable insights into the reliability and validity of
self-assessment PCC documentation instrument. The instrument has been revised based on the findings and now considered ready for deployment in the main study
BRIDGING THE KNOWLEDGE GAP: CAM -ICU EDUCATION FOR ENHANCED DELIRIUM ASSESSMENT IN A PRIVATE HOSPITAL SETTING
Aims and Objectives: The research explores the effect with regard to an educational program on Intensive Care Nurses' knowledge and skills in utilizing the Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU) to evaluate delirium in a private hospital environment.Background: The early identification concerning delirium in the ICU is critical for prompt intervention and better patient outcomes. This research assessed the influence of a structured educational program on nurses' knowledge and competency in utilizing the CAM-ICU.Design: This research was conducted in a private hospital in Malaysia using a mixed-methods approach, featuring a pretest-posttest design with both control and intervention groups, and supported by semi-structured interviews to assess the effectiveness of the educational program.Methods: Fifty (50) nurses were randomly categorized into an intervention group (n = 25) as well as a control group (n = 25). Note that the intervention group was involved in classroom presentations, demonstrations, as well as hands-on practice with the CAM-ICU. Data were gathered pre- and post- intervention utilising the Nurses Knowledge of Delirium Questionnaire (NKD), adapted from Hare et al. (2009) and Devlin et al. (2007), along with semi-structured interviews guided by a researcher- developed tool. Quantitative data were assessed utilising a paired sample t-test, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis.Results: The intervention group showed a statistically substantial increase in knowledge scores from pretest to posttest (<.05). Qualitative findings revealed three key themes, which are barriers to the CAM-ICU implementation. This includes the lack of standardized protocols; factors influencing CAM- ICU adoption, such as improved understanding of delirium and its implications; and experiences of implementing CAM-ICU, with nurses reporting increased knowledge, skills, and confidence.Conclusion: This study provides evidence that a structured educational program may effectively enhance nurses’ knowledge skills as well as confidence in using CAM-ICU. However, organizational barriers, such as the lack of standardized protocols, need to be addressed to facilitate its successful implementation

AbstractCommunity development involved capacity building, community development process and social capital. The study was based on a cross-sectional study conducted in a hinterland town of Mukah, Sarawak. The aim of the study was to investigate the impacts of major state development program on Mukah local community. Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) Development initiatives are state owned projects. Questionnaire surveys were distributed in the affected communities. The total of 430 responses returned. The findings show that the knowledge and skill enhancement require further improvement. The process of empowering the community requires concerted efforts on the part of the community and development partners
Qualitative Analysis of Designing Interdependent E-Module for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Management: A Need of Analysis
OBJECTIVE: To analyse the need to develop an interdependent e-module for t2dm management among caregivers and t2dm patients.
METHODOLOGY: Involving data collection through qualitative methods, document analysis,
semi-structured interview analysis, and visual methodology among 30 respondents (21-60 years old) consisting of caregivers (n=15) and t2dm patients (n=15) at Hospital Sultanah Nurzahirah Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia as purposive sampling. Forty-five photos and interview content were compiled, discussed narratively, and coded using ATLAS.ti V9 software and Excel Spreadsheet for thematic analysis.
RESULTS: Six main themes were revealed based on the experience of the daily management of t2dm: (1) identify destructive conflict resolution strategies, (2) family-regulated for future safety, (3) empowered to take responsibility, (4) adaptive coping strategies, (5) stability to boosted health management, and (6) future family dynamic. These themes provide information on the requirements that must be present on the domains of the interdependent e-module for t2dm management.
CONCLUSION: This study provides insight into using needs analysis to create a more compelling experience designing interdependent e-modules. Therefore, extending this study to the development and implementation phases is appropriate
THE EFFECT OF NURSE LED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME TOWARDS KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE OF FALL ASSESSMENT AMONG REGISTERED NURSES IN A PRIVATE ELDERLY CARE CENTRE IN KUALA LUMPUR.
Background: Fall remain the most common clinical incident that cause morbidity and mortality as well as leaving victim with significant psychological impact. Fall Prevention and Precaution Measure has been implemented across all acute and home nursing centre however various literature have revealed that rate of fall is still high. Fall Prevention Bundle has been in place to prevent fall.Objective: The study aimed to inspect the effect of Fall Prevention Programme on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice in Fall Prevention is deemed important in age care.Methods: A quantitative design, quasi-experimental with pre and post comparative data, before and after the education programme will be utilized. The study will be conducted at KPJ Senior Living Care. A purposive sampling is used among Registered Nurse. Data of pre and post score be collected and analysed. A pre and post comparison of knowledge, attitude and practice of rating MFS and competency of implementation of Fall Care Plan will be investigated.Results: Analysis shown significant increase of knowledge post Fall Prevention Programme with p value of 0.001, but insignificant value of p 0.257 and 0.157 for both attitude and practice among nurses. Despite being only significant in knowledge statistically, the study has shown increase in percentage in attitude and practice among the nurses.Conclusion: The fall prevention training has shown to give positive impact on the knowledge, attitude, and practice among nurses. Continuous awareness and training are highly recommended as to ensure better understanding and ability to rate Morse Fall Scale and provide the best prevention fall
Impact of Education on ICU Nurses Knowledge and Attitudes toward Cam-ICU Delirium Assessment
OBJECTIVE: This research seeks to assess how an educational intervention influences knowledge and attitudes of intensive care nurses in applying the Confusion Assessment Method-Intensive Care Unit for delirium assessment in a private hospital setting.
METHODOLOGY: A descriptive, quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design was conducted from February to July 2024 in two private hospitals in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. A total of 50 registered ICU nurses participated. Nurses in management or on probation were excluded. Twenty-five were randomly assigned to the intervention group and received structured education through classroom presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on practice using the CAM-ICU. Data were collected pre- and post-intervention using a validated 36-item questionnaire assessing delirium-related knowledge and attitudes.
RESULTS: Post-intervention analysis demonstrated statistically significant improvements in the intervention group’s knowledge and attitude scores (p < .001), indicating the program’s effectiveness. The intervention group exhibited more substantial gains compared to the control group.
CONCLUSION: This study supports that a structured educational program can effectively enhance ICU nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and confidence in delirium assessment using the CAM-ICU. The findings align with Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory, which emphasizes learning through experience and reflection. Addressing institutional barriers, such as the lack of standardized protocols, remains essential to ensure successful and sustainable implementation

Knowledge, attitudes and practices on postoperative pain management among registered nurses in a private hospital in Selangor-Malaysia
Background: Postoperative pain is an important aspect of patient care. It occurs when there is tissue injury and muscle spasms following surgery. The goal of postoperative pain management is to minimize discomfort and side effects. Poor pain management can result in patient discomfort, complications, slow recovery, and longer hospitalization. Therefore, it is crucial for registered nurses to have a good understanding of postoperative pain assessment tools in order to provide the best pain management for their patients.Purpose: To assess knowledge and attitude related to pain management practices among registered nurses (rn) in postoperative patients. Method: In this study, a descriptive quantitative cross-sectional survey design was used. A questionnaire was administered, consisting of four parts. The first part collected socio-demographic data from Registered Nurses. The second part contained 13 true and false questions to evaluate their knowledge level. The third part consisted of 14 questions to assess the attitudes of Registered Nurses, and the fourth part consisted of 18 questions using a Likert scale to evaluate their practices. The total number of respondents was 108 Registered Nurses. The data obtained were analyzed using IBM Social Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 26.Results: The study finding shows that 58.2% of Registered Nurses possess adequate knowledge regarding postoperative pain management, while 41.8% lack sufficient knowledge. These nurses agree that effective analgesia is crucial in postoperative care, with 90.8% recognizing the importance of pain measurement instruments. Providing a clean and comfortable ward with a neatly made bed is the most commonly practiced intervention for pain relief among Registered Nurses. Additionally, the study found a positive correlation between age, years of clinical experience, and pain management practices.Conclusion: According to the findings, there is significant variation in the knowledge, attitude, and practices of registered nurses when it comes to managing postoperative pain. To ensure that patients receive helpful and effective pain management after surgery, it is important for nurses to participate in ongoing professional development activities
Community Awareness on Environmental Management through Local Agenda 21 (LA21)
AbstractThis study evaluates the level of community awareness towards the environment and the level of participation of a community in environmental programs through the Local Agenda 21 (LA21). The programme components include social and environmental aspects. Published studies contend that people are aware of the various environmental problems but lack involvement. This study found that reasons of lack of participation are the lack of time, interest and awareness. Recommendations proposed to encourage more interest and involvement from the community include strengthening the coordination between the Local Authority and the community especially in schools and with other stakeholders in line with the objective of Agenda 21
