THE COMMERCIALIZATION OF THE MYTH OF SANTA CLAUS IN ADVERTISEMENTS

This Research is conducted to find out the presentation of The
Commercialization of the Myth of Santa Claus in Advertisements by analyzing
five advertisements which use Santa Claus as their image. This research is
formulated in a question: how is the commercialization of the myth of Santa Claus
in advertisements. The purpose of this research is to reveal the commercialization
of the myth of Santa Claus in advertisement.
The source of data used in this research is five advertisements featuring
Santa Claus which are taken from Internet. These advertisements are chosen as
they related to the topic or research. The supporting data are taken from books,
articles, and websites.
This research applies library research in the form of analytic qualitative
research. Since this research is carried out within American Studies discipline, it
employs interdisciplinary approaches. They are historical approach, mythological
approach, and semiotic approach.
From the analysis, it is found that Santa Claus is commercialized in the
five advertisements. The five advertisements commercialize Santa Claus who is
known as the mythical figure of gift giver in Christmas Eve to sell the product of
the advertisements. Santa Claus is exploited in five advertisements through many
sides, including captions, positions, colors, and the presence of the other persons.
The five advertisements commercialize Santa Claus to attract the consumers to
buy and consume the product by showing the message which is conveyed in these
advertisements

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

ABSTRAK
Instagram merupakan media sosial yang banyak digunakan oleh masyarakat. Instagram sendiri memiliki fitur close friends atau fitur teman dekat yang menjadi pembeda dari media sosial yang lain. Fitur close friends dapat membebaskan para penggunanya dalam mengunggah foto maupun video, namun ternyata kebebasan tersebut memicu terjadinya malicious distribution atau ancaman penyebaran distribusi foto atau video. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fitur close friends instagram dapat memicu terjadinya malicious distribution, faktor penyebab seseorang melakukan malicious distribution, serta dampak yang dialami korban setelah terjadinya malicious distribution. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus, teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan dokumentasi, wawancara, dan studi literatur. Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah korban yang pernah mengalami penyebaran foto maupun video dari close friends instagram dengan rentan usia 18-24 tahun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) fitur close friends dapat memicu malicious distribution karena adanya rasa percaya dalam memilih daftar close friends instagram, sehingga membuat korban dengan bebas membagikan foto maupun video yang bersifat pribadi; (2) faktor penyebab seseorang melakukan malicious distribution ada dua, yaitu oversharing dan doxing; (3) dampak yang dialami korban setelah terjadinya malicious distribution adalah berdampak pada psikologis korban, korban mengalami keterasingan sosial, dan juga korban mengalami kerugian ekonomi.

ABSTRACT
Instagram is a social media that is widely used by the public. Instagram itself has a close friends feature which is a differentiator from other social media. The close friends feature can free its users in uploading photos and videos, but it turns out that this freedom triggers malicious distribution or the threat of spreading the distribution of photos or videos. This study aims to determine the Instagram close friends feature that can trigger malicious distribution, the factors that cause someone to carry out malicious distribution, as well as the impact experienced by victims after malicious distribution occurs. This study uses a qualitative approach with the case study method, data collection techniques using documentation, interviews, and literature studies. Informants in this study were victims who had experienced the spread of photos and videos from close friends on Instagram with a vulnerability of 18-24 years. The results of the study show that: (1) the close friends feature can trigger malicious distribution because of a sense of trust in selecting the Instagram close friends list, so that the victim freely shares private photos and videos; (2) there are two factors that cause someone to do malicious distribution, namely oversharing and doxing; (3) the impact experienced by victims after the occurrence of malicious distribution is that it has an impact on the victim's psychology, the victim experiences social alienation, and also the victim experiences economic losses.

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
