Pierrick Sorin. Comedy in Video Art
The article reveals the genre-stylistic specificity of artworks of the French video artist Pierrick Sorin, created between the 1980s and the 2020s. It studies the methods and techniques characteristic of P. Sorin’s work, particular attention being paid to his use of comic techniques. The novelty of the research lies in the consideration of P. Sorin’s creative work as an integral artistic system in its development. The relevance of the present study is determined by the need to expand ideas about the principles of shaping and the features of drama in the genres of contemporary art.
The article shows that P. Sorin developed the techniques and methods of video art in an original and spectacular way. Out of the creative methods used by the artist, the author of the article focuses on the following ones: the attraction of expressive means of other arts (cinema, circus, music hall, variety theatre, etc.) and the combination of modern technical and technological solutions with the style of comedy films, buffoonery, and clowning, which is manifested in the plots, expressive means, the specifics of the characters. The classification of P. Sorin’s works proposed by the author includes video art, optical theatres (miniature installations), stage performances and scenographic works.
The author comes to the following conclusions: the plot structure of P. Sorin’s works, depending on the genre, includes miniature scenes-sketches, parody films that repeat scenario designs of the originals, and series of sketches combined in a holistic performance by means of recapitulation. In his scenographic works, P. Sorin creates a comic discourse, a play with the viewer based on technical attractions. The comic techniques characteristic of P. Sorin’s work are: comic absurdity, illogical or impossible combination of elements, the method of inconsistency, the method of unexpected, repetition, and the use of taboo topics
Introduction to Anthropological Research on Homeless Women. Communication Problems with Subjects
The text introduces the multi-staged and lasting over a number of years research conducted
by its author. The research takes place among homeless women from the shelters and sleeping
homes in the city of Łódź. The author discusses here the problem of conducting such research,
with the homeless women belonging to the type of subjects known as muted group. Since she gets
involved and engaged in these women’s life (at a certain stage she becomes a voluntary helper at
one of the centers), her two-levelled presence among them will be a characteristic feature of her
study. She cannot separate one of her functions from the other: the jobs of an anthropologist and of
a charity employee are interwoven with each other. She highlights that the muted group phenomenon
is not only a consequence of their own past experience, but also of the type of environment, with
its rules and regulations, created in places like these. The author analyses how their silence and
non-verbal expression symbolize their defiance, and become their own strategy of life and means
of self-expression. At the same time, she suggests that the research practices need to be verified and

Development of mobility skills for children 4-5 years old
Darba autore: Inga Zvirbule Kvalifikācijas darbs: Kustību rotaļas 4-5 gadus vecu bērnu saskarsmes prasmju attīstībā. Pētījuma mērķis: Izzināt kustību rotaļu izmantošanas iespējas saskarsmes prasmju attīstībā 4-5 gadus veciem bērniem. Teorētiskajā daļā tiek iztirzātas un izmantotas latviešu autoru, tādu kā-S.Laizānes, I.Stangaines, I.Lieģinieces un citu autoru atziņas par bērnu fiziskajā un psiholoģiskajā attīsības nozīmīgiem procesiem, kā saskarsmi un kustību rotaļām. Darbā tiek iztirzītas kvalifikācijas darba autores atziņas par bērna attīstību, sistemātiskumu, kā arō uzskati par rotaļu un kustību rotaļu nozīmi saskarsmes prasmu veidošanā. Empīriskajā daļa tiek izmantota pētījums, kas balstās uz novērojuma datiem un analīzi, kas raksturo sakarības starp vidējā pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu saskarsmes prasmēm un kā tās var pilnveidot ar kustību rotaļas palīdzību. Praktiskajā daļā tiek izmantotas vairākas empīriskās pētīšanas metodes, tādas kā pārrunas arī bērniem, novērojumi, analīze un anketēšana. Kvalifikācijas darbā aplūkotas dažādu autoru- psihologu un pedagogu atziņas un viedokļus par saskarsmi un tās nozīmi, uzsverot saskarsmes nozīmi cilvēku ikdienā, lai cilvēks attīstītos un pilnveidotu sevi gan fiziski, gan garīgi. Apkopotas atziņas par kustību rotaļām tās veidiem un nozīmi saskarsmes prasmju veidošanā. Pētījumā ir iekļauta PII grupa ar 28 bērniem (14 zēni un 15 meitenes ), izmantotas darba autores Ingas Zvirbules izvēlētas rotaļas, kuras pēc viņas domām sekmē un pilnveido bērnu saskarsmes prasmes. Pētījuma beigās var secināt, ka kustību rotaļās attīstās un pilnveidojas saskarsmes prasmes bērniem. The work analyses the author's findings on the development of a child, legal relationships, as well as the learning of the types of play and the importance of the playing of movements in the development of communication skills. The empirical section observed and compared child-to-child exposure skills in mid-childhood children through motion play. In the practical part, the author uses different methods: observation, negotiation with children, anketting and analysis. The work includes a variety of learning from a psychologist and an educator about communication and its importance as an integral part of life, so that a person develops and develops himself, both physically and mentally, as well as learning about movement games, its ways and its role in the development of communication skills. What is reading literature today? Questionnaire

culture), reading is marketed and comes in a package with an interesting manproduct,
namely the writer. At the same time, reading clubs are formed, not only in
institutions, but also private ones — their members read and discuss books, just as it
was done in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Like any academic specializing
in Polish literature, the author wants reading to be a necessity for everyone — a sophisticated
literary man is better able to understand the world, history and current

Aluminiumen er målet. Oppfinnsomhet framfor handmakt- Storindustriskolen i Norðurál aluminiumsverk
Storindustriskolen har vært i drift i Norðurál siden begynnelsen av 2012 og er godkjent i en tariffavtale hvor de som har fullført får lønnsøkning. Studiet er basert på curriculum som er laget av Næringslivets utdanningssenter men godkjent av utdanningsdepartementet og gir mulighet for studiepoeng innenfor det formelle videregående utdanningssystemet. De som driver storindustriskolen er aluminiumsverket Norðurál, yrkesfagskolen i Akranes og sentret for voksenopplæring i Vesturlands region.
Denne oppgaven bygger på kasusstudie om storindustriskolen i Norðurál aluminiumsverk i Vesturland region i Island. Datasamlingen bygger både på kvalitativ og kvantitativ tilnærming, i tillegg til skriftlige kilder.
Hensikten med oppgaven er for det første å få bedre forståelse for hvilken virkning en storindustriskole har for deltakerne på skolen og er den en bra måte for å heve kompetanse. For det andre studerer jeg om skolen kan bidra til å styrke konkurranseevnen hos aluminiumsverket, og for det tredje vurderer jeg hvilken betydning skolen har for de offentlige utdanningsinstitusjoner som driver skolen sammen med Norðurál og tar seg av undervisningen.
Resultatene viser bl.a. at det som motiverer ansatte hos Norðurál til å gå på storindustriskolen er lønnsøkning. Men det er andre faktorer som er viktige i denne sammenheng, f.eks. det å bli kjent med aluminiumsverket, få bedre forståelse for prosedyrer og produksjonsprosessen, bedre innsikt i andre avdelinger, personer fra ulike avdelinger blir kjent med hverandre på storindustriskolen, samt at deltakelse på storindustriskolen gir også muligheter til opplæring og videre studie.
Det viser seg at storindustriskolen er en god måte til å heve kompetansen innenfor aluminiumsverket. Utdanningstilbud til ansatte hos Norðurál er også en måte å styrke sin konkurranseevne om arbeidskraft.
Ut fra statens utdanningspolitikk er storindustriskolen også en god måte for å nå de ufaglærte og oppmuntre dem til videre utdanning.
Det at lærere fra yrkesfagskolen underviser i Norðurál, mener jeg bidrar til å skape tillit mellom deltakere og lærere fra skolen. Dermed øker det muligheten for at de begynner å studere på yrkesfagskolen og styrker relasjonene mellom yrkesfagskolen og aluminiumsverket. Noen av de som har fullført på storindustriskolen har studert videre ved yrkesfagskolen i Akranes.
Jeg ønsket også med oppgaven å svare på spørsmålet om det var nyttig for senteret for voksenopplæring og yrkesfagskolen å samarbeide for å heve kompetansen i regionen. Jeg mener at dette samarbeidet er nyttig bl.a. fordi senteret for voksenopplæring har den fleksibilitet som trengs når studium somstorindustriskolen planlegges. Derimot har den formelle yrkesfagskolen den kompetanse blant lærere som er viktig for storindustriskolen. Skolen har bidratt til samarbeid mellom disse utdanningsinstitusjoner, som medfører at de har fått bedre kjennskap til hverandre og har lettere for å samarbeide i fremtiden.Abstract
This thesis is based on a case study of the Industrial School of the aluminium smelter Norðurál in the Western region of Iceland. The institute has been operated at Norðurál since early 2012 and is approved in a pay-scale, resulting in a salary raise for those who have completed the study program. The education is based on a curriculum set forth by the Icelandic Education and Training Service Centre, but is endorsed by the Ministry of Education, and may be evaluated as study-credits in the official comprehensive college system. The school is run by the corporation Norðurál, the Comprehensive College of Akranes and the Western Region Adult Learning Centre.
Data collection is based on both qualitative and quantitative approach, as well as secondary literature. The objective of this study is chiefly threefold. Firstly, the study aims to provide an understanding of the impact that the Industrial School has on its students and whether it is a good method of improving workers’ expertise. Second is to examine whether the school can contribute towards increased competence of the corporation. Thirdly, it is sought to analyse how the school affects the formal educational institutes that operate the school jointly with Norðurál.
The results indicate, inter alia, that the salary increase motivates the employee of Norðurál to enrol in the Industrial School. However, other factors are also of significance for the workers, such as familiarising themselves with the aluminium smelter and gaining a better understanding of procedures and the production process. Also, the school grants the employees an insight into other departments within the corporation, as well as providing a platform for staff from various departments to socialise. Further, participation in the Industry School allows the employees to gain certain education and pursue further studies.
The Industrial School appears to be a useful method of raising the competence within the corporation, as well as making it a more appealing employer in the competition for workers. From the perspective of the official educational policy of the Icelandic government, the Industrial School is a suitable way of reaching out to those who are unskilled and encourage them to further studies.
Teachers from the Comprehensive College of Akranes undertake teaching at the Industrial School, which, in the opinion of the author, stimulates mutual respect between the participating workers and the teachers. That may increase the likelihood of the employees enrolling into the comprehensive college; further strengthening the bond between the aluminium smelter and the comprehensive college. Some ofthose who have completed the Industrial School have continued their studies at the Comprehensive College of Akranes. In addition to aforementioned objectives, the purpose of this thesis is to seek an answer to the question of whether it is useful for the Western Region Adult Learning Centre and the Comprehensive College of Akranes to collaborate in elevating the competence within the region. The author’s view is that this cooperation is beneficial, inter alia, because the Western Region Adult Learning Centre offers the flexibility which is necessary to organise the Industrial School, which the formal educational system lacks, whereas the formal comprehensive college provides skilled teachers, which are essential for the Industrial School. The school has promoted collaboration between those educational institutions, which has strengthened their relations and their ability to cooperate further in the futur
Fire in the pines: a landscape perspective of human-induced ecological change in the pinelands of New Jersey
Effects of urban land-uses have long term implications for the structure and function of natural ecosystems that may extend far beyond the land-use itself. Specifically, natural disturbance and succession in forest ecosystems have been highly altered by human-caused land-use and fire frequency changes. Changes to forest community structure and composition can affect the long-term sustainability of areas such as the New Jersey Pinelands, a fire-dependent ecosystem. By combining historic maps of fire frequency and land-use change, I assessed the effects of human development patterns on fire and forest composition in the Pinelands. These assessments showed lower fire frequency and higher transitions from pine to oak forest cover in close geographic proximity to altered land. Additionally, I investigated our ability to detect the effects of fire on water quality measures using data from gauged watersheds. No significant effects of fire could be determined due to a lack of water quality data associated with wildfires in space and time. I used a spatially-explicit forest disturbance and succession model to investigate how increasing levels of altered land and changing fire regimes may affect forest composition in the future. Additionally, I added climate change to disturbance and succession modeling to incorporate this additional forcing on fire and forest composition. These scenarios showed an overwhelming trend toward oak dominated forest within 100 years, except in the unique pine plains area, where pine species still dominated. The potential of this type of dramatic shift from pine to oak cover represents a radical departure from current forest composition and needs to be addressed by managers of the Pinelands National Reserve in order to maintain the essential Pinelands landscape. Modeling the potential influences of current and future altered land as well as changes in fire regimes in our study area elucidates the degree to which fire and climate disturbances may alter forest composition.Ph. Inga Gaile’s Creativity: Themes, Problematics, Poetics
Maģistra darbā „Ingas Gailes daiļrade: tematika, problemātika, poētika” pētīta dzejnieces, dramaturģes un prozaiķes I. Gailes darbos atspoguļotā specifiskā pieredze, kas saistīta ar sievietes ķermeni un seksualitāti, un sievietes eksistences problemātiku mūsdienu sabiedrībā. Dzejnieces daiļrade līdz šim nav sistemātiski pētīta. Darba mērķis ir apzināt un atklāt I. Gailes personības un daiļrades īpatnības, balstoties uz mūsdienu feminisma literatūrteorijas un kritikas teorētiski metodoloģiskās pieejas. Apgūti I. Gailes teksti, kas publicēti laikā no 1999. līdz 2016. gadam un izpētīti dzejnieces darbu vērtējumi mūsdienu latviešu literatūras kritikā. Aktualizēta feminisma literatūras teorijas un kritikas teorētiski metodoloģiskā joma. Pievērsta uzmanība ar dzimumdiferences izpēti saistītās terminoloģijas adaptācijas problēmām latviešu literatūrā.In master’s work „Inga Gaile’s Creativity: themes, problems, poetics” has been studied the specific experience related to the female body and sexuality and the problems of women’s existence in modern society, which has been reflected in the poet’s, playwright’s and prose writer’s I. Gaile works. The poet’s writings have not been systematically studied. The aim of the work is to identify and discover I. Gaile’s personality and artistic features, based on contemporary feminist literary theory and criticism theoretically methodological approach. The author of the work studied I. Gaile’s texts published between 1999 and 2016 and studied the evaluations of the poet’s work in contemporary Latvian literary criticism. The author has highlighted feminist literary theory and criticism theoretically methodological field and focused on problems of terminological adaptation related to gender studies in Latvian literature
Translation of Operating Manuals
Bakalaura darba “Lietošanas instrukciju tulkošana” autore ir Latvijas Universitātes, Moderno valodu fakultātes 5.kursa studente Inga Liepiņa.
Šī Bakalaura darba mērķis bija analizēt pirmvalodas tekstu un mērķvalodas tekstu, pielietojot labākās metodes un stratēģijas, tādējādi iegūstot lasāmu un saprotamu tulkojumu.
Tiek analizētas dažādas lietošanas instrukcijas. Gan tās, kas saistītas ar tehniskiem tekstiem, gan tās, kas saistītas ar medicīnu. I. Liepiņa uzskata, ka abi šie tekstu tipi ir savā ziņā līdzīgi - tiem piemīt līdzīgas īpatnības (it īpaši terminoloģijas problēmas).
Bakalaura darba autore atklāja, ka informatīvs teksts prasa piemērot tādu metodi kā praktisko ekvivalenci (līdzvērtību), kas nodrošina precīzu, pareizu un saprotamu tulkojumu. I. Liepiņa konstatē, ka iegūt praktisko līdzvērtību var saskaņā ar dažiem nosacījumiem: tulkotājam ir jābūt zinošam par attiecīgo nozari, tam ir jāpielieto labas profesionālās vārdnīcas, kā arī jāpārzina gan pirmvaloda, gan valoda, kurā tulko – mērķvaloda.The author of the Bachelor Paper “Translation of Operating Manual” is Inga Liepina, the 5th year student of University of Latvia, Faculty of Modern Languages.
The purpose of this Bachelor Paper was to analyze source text and target text, using best methods and strategies to achieve readable and understandable translation (target text).
The source text and the target text are taken from different operating manuals and patient leaflets. I. Liepina assumes that technical texts and medical texts both are similar in their peculiarities (especially terminological problems) therefore she has considered analyzing them both.
The author of the Bachelor paper has found from her research that informative text demands to apply such methods as practical equivalence that ensures precise and understanding translation. I Liepina have found that practical equivalence can be achieved with few conditions: the person translating has to have a good knowledge of the theme; it has to use professional dictionaries and have competence in source and target languages
Företagsstorlek och ESG-betyg : En kvantitativ studie om företagsstorlekens påverkan på ESG-betyget
Sammanfattning Titel: Företagsstorlek och ESG-betyg Nivå: Examensarbete på Grundnivå (kandidatexamen) i ämnet företagsekonomi Författare: Anton Samuelsson och Inga Kemi Handledare: Jan Svanberg Datum: 2021 – Januari Syfte: ESG-betygen spelar en nyckelroll som den vanligaste proxyn för hållbarhetsprestation inom hållbar finansiering. Tidigare studier visar dock att företag har incitament att vara kreativa med hållbarhetsupplysningar, som ligger till grund för ESG-betygen. Incitamenten kan överföras till företagsstorlek då större företag möter en högre press från samhället att vara hållbart ansvarstagande. Om företagens storlek är positivt relaterad till ESG-betyget behöver det också åtföljas av motsvarande förändring i hållbarhetsprestation. Återspeglar inte ESG-betygen hållbarhetprestationen riskerar kapitalet att fördelas mot icke-hållbara företag. Syftet med denna studie är därför att förklara sambandet mellan företagsstorlek och ESG-betyg. Metod: Studien utgår från en positivistisk forskningsfilosofi med en deduktiv ansats. Studien har en kvantitativ strategi och en longitudinell design som genomförts med data på ett urval bestående av 5 658 publika företag vilka erhållit ESG-betyg mellan åren 2015-2019. Studien baseras på sekundär data inhämtad från databasen Thomson Reuters Eikon. Data har analyserats i statistikprogrammet SPSS. Resultat & slutsats: Studiens resultat påvisar att företagens storlek har ett positivt samband med ESG-betyget. Studiens resultat visar vidare att det positiva sambandet inte åtföljs av en ökad grad av hållbarhet. Således drar studien slutsatsen att ESG-betyget inte fungerar optimalt och är i behov av en snabb modifiering. Examensarbetets bidrag: Studiens resultat ger information till investerare som vill investera i hållbara företag. Eftersom ESG-betyget inte återspeglar hållbarhetsprestationen bör inte investerare förlita sig på ESG-betyget i investeringsbesluten. Studiens resultat ger också information till mätinstituten som tillhandahåller ESG-betyg. Då studien visar att det förekommer företagsstorlek-bias kan åtgärder göras för att få ESG-betyget att fungera mer korrekt. Studiens resultat ger vidare information till forskningen inom ESG-betygen. Detta genom att påvisa hur sambandet ser ut i verkligheten. Förslag till fortsatt forskning: Ett förslag till fortsatt forskning är att göra en liknande undersökning, men som innefattar fler mätinstitut som tillhandahåller ESG-betyg. I denna studie används miljödimensionen som proxy för datatillgänglighet och hållbarhet. If the size of the companies is positively related to the ESG rating, it also needs to be accompanied by corresponding change in sustainability performance. If the ESG rating does not reflect sustainability performance, capital risks being allocated to non-sustainable companies. The purpose of this study is therefore to explain the relationship between company size and ESG ratings. Method: The study assumes a positivistic research philosophy with a deductive approach. The study uses a quantitative strategy and a longitudinal design implemented with data of a sample consisting 5 658 unique companies that have received ESG ratings, in the years 2015-2019. The study uses secondary data collected from the database Thomson Reuters Eikon. The data have been analyzed in the statistical software package called SPSS. Result & Conclusions: The results indicate that company size has a positive relationship with the ESG rating. The results indicate that the positive relationship does not attend on a higher level of sustainability. Thus, the study concludes that ESG rating does not function optimally and is in need of a quick modification Contribution of the thesis: The result provides information for investors interested in investing in sustainable companies. Since the ESG rating does not reflect the sustainability performance, investors should not rely on the ESG-rating in the investment decision. The result also provides information to the rating agencies which provide the ESG-ranking. As the study indicates that there exists a company size bias, actions can be taken to correct the ESG-ranking. The result of this study also provides information to the research field of ESG ratings. Suggestions for future research: A suggestion for further studies is to conduct a similar research but include other rating agencies of ESG ratings. Women’s issue in Inga Gaile’s novel “Jaukumiņš”
Bakalaura darbā “Sieviešu jautājums Ingas Gailes romānā “Jaukumiņš”” pētīts, kā romāna autore izgaismo 21. gadsimta sievietes dzīvi Latvijā un dzimumu nevienlīdzību. Sniegts ieskats feminisma teorijā, I. Gailes uzskatos un autobiogrāfiskajos motīvos viņas daiļradē, kā arī dzimumu nevienlīdzības problemātikā Latvijas un Eiropas kontekstā. Darbs veikts, izmantojot feminisma literatūras teoriju un kontekstualizācijas metodi. Analizēts sievietes atainojums romānā, pievēršot uzmanību tādiem aspektiem kā mātišķības problemātika, seksualitāte un vardarbība, skaistuma standarti, objektifikācija un nevienlīdzīga attieksme. Secināts, ka romāns “Jaukumiņš” aktualizē vairākas patlaban sabiedrībā aktuālas problēmas.The bachelor thesis "Women's Issue in Inga Gaile's Novel "Jaukumiņš"" examines how the author highlights the experiences of 21st-century women in Latvia and gender inequality. It provides insights into feminist theory, Inga Gaile's views, and autobiographical elements in her work, as well as the issue of gender inequality in the context of Latvia and Europe. The research uses feminist literary theory and method of contextualization to analyze the portrayal of women in the novel, focusing on aspects such as the challenges of motherhood, sexuality and violence, beauty standards, objectification, and unequal treatment. The thesis concludes that the novel "Jaukumiņš" brings to light several pressing societal issues
