국문요약 65DoctoralLeft ventricular (LV) remodeling, which includes ventricular dilatation and increased interstitial fibrosis after myocardial infarction (MI), is the critical process underlying the progression to heart failure (HF). Therefore, a novel approach for preventing LV remodeling after MI is highly desirable. Yuzu is a citrus plant originating in East Asia, and has a number of cardioprotective ingredients such as hesperidin. However, no study has proved whether yuzu can prevent LV remodeling. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of yuzu on HF and its potential impact on the LV remodeling process after MI and platelet aggregation. In this study, it was investigated whether yuzu and its components hesperidin and naringin, have anti-platelet activities. Yuzu and hesperidin inhibited collagen-, arachidonic acid (AA)-, ADP- and thrombin-induced rat platelet aggregation in vitro and ex vivo. Naringin also inhibited platelet aggregation induced by collagen, AA, or thrombin, but not by ADP. The oral administration of yuzu or hesperidin prolonged mouse tail vein bleeding time in a dose-dependent manner. LV remodeling in vivo study using the permanent left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) occlusion model demonstrated that one week pretreatment with yuzu or its major metabolite hesperidin before LAD occlusion significantly attenuated cardiac dysfunction, myocyte apoptosis and inflammation. Not only yuzu but also hesperidin inhibited caspase-3 activity, myeloperoxidase expression, α-smooth muscle actin expression, and matrix metalloproteinase-2 activity in a permanent LAD occlusion rat model. These results suggest that yuzu and hesperidin have anti-platelet activity, and that intake of yuzu, which contains various flavonoids such as hesperidin, may be beneficial for individuals at high risk of cardiovascular diseases. These findings provide the first evidence that yuzu and hesperidin prevent MI-induced ventricular dysfunction and structural remodeling of myocardium
nanosheet catalyst as an efficient tri-functional catalyst
In this study, a nickel (Ni)-doped 1T-MoS2 catalyst, an efficient tri-functional hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyst, was massively synthesized at high pressure (over 15 bar). The morphology, crystal structure, and chemical and optical properties of the Ni-doped 1T-MoS2 nanosheet catalyst were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and ring rotating disk electrodes (RRDE), and the OER/ORR properties were characterized using lithium-air cells. Our results confirmed that highly pure, uniform, monolayer Ni-doped 1T-MoS2 can be successfully prepared. The as-prepared catalysts exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity for OER, HER, and ORR owing to the enhanced basal plane activity of Ni doping and formidable active edge sites resulting from the phase transition to a highly crystalline 1T structure from 2H and amorphous MoS2. Therefore, our study provides a massive and straightforward strategy to produce tri-functional catalysts.
A Chemistry and Material Perspective On Lithium Redox Flow Batteries Towards High-Density Electrical Energy Storage
Electrical energy storage system such as secondary batteries is the principle power source for portable electronics, electric vehicles and stationary energy storage. As an emerging battery technology, Li-redox flow batteries inherit the advantageous features of modular design of conventional redox flow batteries and high voltage and energy efficiency of Li-ion batteries, showing great promise as efficient electrical energy storage system in transportation, commercial, and residential applications. The chemistry of lithium redox flow batteries with aqueous or non-aqueous electrolyte enables widened electrochemical potential window thus may provide much greater energy density and efficiency than conventional redox flow batteries based on proton chemistry. This Review summarizes the design rationale, fundamentals and characterization of Li-redox flow batteries from a chemistry and material perspective, with particular emphasis on the new chemistries and materials. The latest advances and associated challenges/opportunities are comprehensively discussed.Zhao, Yu, Yu Ding, Yutao Li, Lele Peng, Hye Ryung Byon, John B. Goodenough, and Guihua Yu. Identification of phosphorylation sites of TOPORS and a role for phosphorylated residues in the regulation of ubiquitin and SUMO E3 ligase activity:
TOPORS is the first example of a protein that possesses both ubiquitin and SUMO E3 ligase activity. The ubiquitination activity maps to a conserved RING domain in the N-terminal region of the protein, which is not required for sumoylation activity. Similar to other E3 ligases, it is likely that the ubiquitin and sumoylation activities of TOPORS are regulated by post-translational modifications. Therefore, we employed mass spectrometry to identify post-translational modifications of TOPORS. Several putative phosphorylated regions were identified in conserved regions of the protein. We investigated the role of phosphorylation of serine 98, which is adjacent to the RING domain, in both cells and in vitro. Mutation of serine 98 to aspartic acid resulted in an increase in the ubiquitin ligase activity of TOPORS both in cells and in vitro. In addition, this mutation increased the binding of TOPORS to the E2 enzyme UbcH5a. Conversely, a phospho-deficient mutant (S98A) exhibited little change in ubiquitin ligase activity compared to wild-type TOPORS, both in cells and in vitro. Neither of the mutants affected the localization of TOPORS to punctate nuclear regions. In addition, neither mutant affected the SUMO ligase activity of TOPORS in cells or in vitro. Our findings indicate that phosphorylation of serine 98 regulates the ubiquitin but not the SUMO ligase activity of TOPORS, consistent with a potential binary switch function for TOPORS in protein ubiquitination versus sumoylation.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 99-107)by Hye-Jin Par
Non-Hermitian analysis of surface creeping waves in optical microcavities: Nature of external resonances
Undiscovered properties of surface creeping wave states given by complex angular momentum poles, so-called Regge poles (RPs) in optical microcavity scattering, are transparently elucidated on the frameworks of non-Hermitian physics. In particular, we analytically show that the nature of external resonances (ERs) given by complex wave numbers is equivalent to surface creeping wave RPs. Moreover, by obtaining the full structural characteristics of RPs for different polarizations, it is found that notable nontrivial RPs in transverse-magnetic polarization arise owing to the classical Brewster angle. Finally, we explicitly demonstrate the emergence of non-Hermitian degeneracies incorporating different classes of RPs. © 2020 American Physical Society.1
Appropriations of Irish drama by modern Korean nationalist theatre : a focus on the influence of Sean O’Casey in a colonial context
My thesis explores how a translated author on the periphery of the host culture’s
translated repertoire can be at once subversive and innovative on the colonial scene,
using as an example the case of Sean O’Casey in colonial Korea. It explores the
importation of Irish drama in modern Korean theatre during the colonial period and
examines the appropriations of O’Casey’s plays by a central Korean playwright, Yu
Chi-jin, in creating his own plays. Under Japanese colonial rule in the early twentieth
century, intellectuals perceived the supreme task for the Korean people to be the
recovery of national sovereignty and independence. The modern Korean theatre
movement which rose among Korean intellectuals and dramatists during the colonial
period was to play a major part in this task. The ultimate goal of this movement was
to establish a modern national theatre promoting Korean culture and educating the
people, thereby recovering national independence. As their modernised dramatic
polysystem was still "young", Korean intellectuals and dramatists who were
involved in the theatre movement had to borrow dramatic models from other
countries. One of the models they chose was Irish playwrights, especially those who
were involved in the Irish dramatic movement. They published or staged the works
of W.B. Yeats, Lord Dunsany [Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett], Augusta
Gregory, J.M. Synge, St. J. Ervine, T.C. Murray and Sean O'Casey. Although
O'Casey was considered an important dramatist in the Irish dramatic movement, he
was a playwright on the periphery in the list of translated Irish dramatists in Korea
due to the colonisers’ censorship. However, he remained as a subversive and
innovative playwright on the colonial scene by virtue of being appropriated by Yu
Chi-jin who used O’Casey’s plays as models when creating his own works. In
discussing the subject matter of my thesis, I use Even Zohar’s polysystems theory as
a starting point in looking at ideological issues surrounding translation and extend
the discussion to offer a postcolonial perspective. While most translation in a
colonial context was considered as "an expression of the cultural power of the
colonisers," my thesis shifts the focus to translation as an expression of the cultural
power of the colonised. I explore how the colonised uses another colonised culture to
subvert the colonisers’ power
