Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Wan-Yu Chan Clarinet Recital Program Notes
This is the program notes for Wan-Yu Chan\ue2s Clarinet Solo Recital on May 13, 2021. It includes renowned clarinet repertoire from the nineteenth to the twentieth century, requiring both demanding technique, and rich musical expression.
The Stimmungen eines Faus Op. 11 f\uc3\ubcr Klarinette solo by Ilse Fromm-Michaels is a three-movement work with one of the \ue2expression\ue2 which leaves the audiences space of imagination. An important work in the twentieth century, the Concerto Pour clarinette et Orchestre de chambre by Eug\uc3\ua8ne Bozza has challenges to the players with it\ue2s high-level techniques and the unique composition style. Claude Debussy\ue2s Premi\uc3\ua9re Rhapsodie pour clarinette en si b\uc3\ua9mol was commissioned by the Conservatoire national sup\uc3\ua9rieur de musique et de danse de Paris as an examination piece for graduating Clarinet students. The changes of the tempo and the timbre highlight the piece. Alamiro Giampiere\ue2s Il Carnevale di Venezia Capriccio Variato is a theme and variations depicting the happy scenes during the Carnival of Venice. Arthur Honnegger\ue2s Sonatine pour clarinette en la & piano is a three-movement piece. A special technique \ue2Glissando\ue2 is used in his third movement showing a different musical style. This program notes present the biography of the composers, musical background, and interpretation of the above five pieces that I played in my solo recital
Writing a Wikipedia Article on Cultural Competence in Health Care
This article describes how librarians created a Wikipedia article on cultural competence in health care to support the medical school’s curriculum. Wikipedia, often considered not as reliable as scholarly articles, continues to be popular. Rutgers librarians conducted a Wikipedia project to improve its content to benefit students. The importance of cultural competency in health care is widely recognized due to increasingly diverse patient populations. Medical schools integrate cultural competency in curricula to train students to be culturally competent. Therefore, this topic was chosen for the Wikipedia Project. It is hoped that health sciences librarians and educators will benefit from their experience

“Brothers” and the Reception of Yu Hua in France
International audienceAfter an overall presentation of the situation of Yu Hua’s work in France, we shall focus on the reception of his novel Xiongdi, which received an unprecedented media coverage. In less than one year, from the end of March 2008, when the book came out, to the end of January 2009, the book has been reviewed more than fifty times in newspapers, radio or television programs as well as Internet sites, either briefly, or at length, and sometimes along with an interview of the author. A critical success, which has resulted in the author winning the prestigious « prix Courrier international » (a prize awarded by the weekly journal Courrier International) and was coupled with a tremendous commercial success, the book gaining a large audience among the general readers but also, it must be stressed, among the economists, who acclaimed Yu Hua as « a vigilant scrutinizer of Chinese reality »
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
