A Study of the Old Men in Ching-Wen Cheng\ue2s Short Stories
Ching-Wen Cheng has been writing for more than 50 years. He uses easy Chinese and describes the deep side of human beings. He cares about the normal people in Taiwanese society. In this thesis, the author emphasizes on the old men, which few researchers notice. The first chapter is about the motivation of this research and the issues discussed in this study. The second chapter is about Ching-Wen Cheng\ue2s growing background,the history of his life, his litrature creating process and how these elements make him special.The third chapter is about the physical and psychological aging process of old men and how Ching-Wen Cheng depicts it in a sociological way. The fourth chapter analyzes old men in several ways. The author writes about controversial topics in traditional and modern societies and explores the meanings of life with past memories. A New Binary Encoding Disk from Shen Nong's Diagrams in I-Ching and Its Application -- Also Uncovering the e, φ, Spiral Fractal, Fibonacci and TM Sequences in the Encoding Disk
The Shen Nong's Diagrams of I-Ching is a set of "the dichotomy approach" Diagrams of I-Ching discovered by the author in 1994, which has been published in Chinese core journals. The diagram contains the geometric sequence of 1, 2, 4, 8... Shen Nong's Diagrams of I-Ching actually represents a new binary coding scheme with a specific arrangement and combination of YIN and YANG symbols, in which, the circular diagram constitutes an encoding disk that can be used as a photoelectric code disk. In recent years, the author has discovered that the Fibonacci sequence, TM sequence, φ, e, Pascal's triangle (Yang Hui Triangle), the integer value of the fine structure constant 137, and the spiral fractal structure, which cross coexistence on the encoding disk. Even the spiral structure of the Milky Way is very similar to the spiral of the encoding disk. This provides us with a new perspective and entry point for studying these mathematical and scientific issues and even the internal connections among them, and it is expected to that the encoding disk will be basic tool, which, like Pascal's triangle, will be widely used in the field of mathematical and scientific research

[[abstract]]A Case Study of the Relationship Bjunior high school studentsetween Ching-Shuei Junior High School Students’ Test Stress in Taichung County and Their Academic Achievements
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to explore the relationship between junior high school students’ test stress and their academic achievements. The study also investigated the relationship between different levels of test stress and their academic achievements. It aimed to understand junior high school students’ test stress in order to increase teaching effects.
Questionnaire survey as well as semi-structure interview methods were used in the study. Questionnaires about junior high school students’ test stress were carefully designed. 480 eighth-grade students from Ching-Shuei Junior High School in Taichung County were randomly selected as subjects in the survey. There were 480 valid samples obtained. The statistics procedures including t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson product-moment correlation were conducted to analyze the results. 15 eighth-grade students in the same school were interviewed in a semi-structure way. Both qualitative analysis and quantitative method were used to analyze the results.
The findings of the study are as follows:
1. The results showed that junior high school students’ test stress was of a medium level.
2. Among the four levels of test stress for the junior high school students, the degree of test stress for pre-test preparation was the highest, and then pre-test nervousness, on-site reaction and scores’ stress.
3. There were significant differences in correlation between test stress and the students’ academic achievements.
4. It was found that the results from 15 students’ testing experiences in the interviews were consistent with those of the questionnaire survey.
In conclusion, the results of the study make educational contributions and suggestions to the educators, junior high school teachers, parents and researchers in the future study.

[[alternative]]An Action Research of Multiple Intelligences Theory in Curriculum Design of Health and Physical Education Learning Area
碩士教育研究所[[abstract]]摘 要
本研究以行動研究探討應用多元智能理論於國中體育課程設計的實施情形,藉由結合理論與實務,進行教學改革的行動研究,改進自我的教學。
研究者以任教的八年級一班學生為研究對象,設計多元智能課程,課程實施十三週,期間以課堂速記、學習反思、教學反思、學習單、訪談、多元智能量表、體育態度量表等工具蒐集資料。
研究發現如下:
(1)「多元智能」主題式課程設計適用於體育教學
(2)「多元智能」主題式課程設計可有效提升認知、情意、技
能之表現結果。
(3)「多元智能」理論提供教師有效能的教學架構。
(4) 多元智能教學活動可滿足大部分學生的學習需求。
(5) 多元評量設計需符合學生需求及獲得學生認同。
(6) 學生肯定多元智能課程設計及教學活動,滿意自身學習效
能。
本行動研究幫助研究者掌握教學現況、改進教學問題、解決學習問題、增加教學經驗,增進了教師專業能力。
最後,根據研究之結果,分別針對課程設計、教師專業知能、學校政策、未來研究等方面提出各項具體建議以供參考。

Abstract
This report describes an action research project that was designed to determine the effect of using the Multiple Intelligences theory combined with the analysis of its relation with Physical Education curriculum design, the researcher tried to designed MI-based Physical Education teaching activities, construst the MI-based Physical Education instruction program and furthermore bring it into practice.
The subjects consisted of 30 eighth-grade students selected from the researcher′s junior high school. At the research period of thirteen weeks, the data were collected through teacher observation records, students′ learning reflections, teaching journals, work sheets, interviews, Multiple Intelligences Strategy Appraisal, Attitude Scale toward Physical Education.
The major finding of this study as follows:
(1) The Multiple Intelligences -based Physical Education topic curriculum design is suitable for the Physical Education teaching class.
(2) The Multiple Intelligences -based Physical Education topic curriculum design indicate a significant improvement in cognition、affection and psychomotor.
(3) The Multiple Intelligences – based theory can help to provide the teachers teaching efficiency.
(4) The Multiple Intelligences –based teaching activities can meet most of the students learning requirements.
The action research helps the researcher to create a positive learning atmosphere, improve the teaching problems, and increase the professional abilities of teaching skills.

[[alternative]]The Regional Development On San-Sin Plain Of I-lan In Japanese Colonical Regime
[[abstract]]Abstract
The essay is a study in the frontier area, San-sin of I-lan, which dealing with the historical process of this frontier society. It has focus on illustrating the regional specialty of this frontier area, by its original environment and nation mechanism.
Thus, the author attempt to express the following 6 topics:
(1) Analyzing the character of San-sin regional environment,
(2) Constructing the spatial process of land cultivation in Ching Dynasty,
(3) Exploring how the nation mechanism guided the development of this frontier area,
(4) Understanding the pattern of land cultivation in Japanese’s colonial regime,
(5) Finding the detail of economical production of San-sin area in Japanese capitalism and how the nation mechanism reconstructs the environment,
(6) Analyzing the rule of space structure and the character of society in San-sin area,
The results of this study are the follows:
1. San-sin plain is sited on the gate of Tai-Yia tribe, where it was the most dangerous region in Taiwan close-mountainous areas. Meanwhile, the natural environment of San-sin is an alluvial fan, accompanied with several furious floods annually.
Both of the two factors make the crucial key-point to influence San-sin region development.
2. Due to the dangerous environment, Han People experienced very hard time to cultivate this frontier area,but they gains few achievement ,finally.
It’s not until 1850, shugfan (the more civilized aborigines)begun to immigrate into the San-sin plains and developed their community by force.
They built their settlements from north to south, and from east to west on the southern I-Lan. But all the settlements were still sparse on San-sin plain during Ching Dynasty.
3. Japanese colonial authority had diversified its governing aborigine’s policy by setting up cordons from 1903 to 1911, and activated San-sin plain becoming a safe frontier for new immigrants to move in.
4. Shortly after Japanese colonial regime had controlled the aboriginal boundary, it attracted various groups to cultivate this great virgin land.
Under the powerful control of the colonial authority, Japan’s private corporations and I-lan land-owners cultivated the wild land, San-sin plain was well cultivated eventually.
5. After finishing land cultivation, nation mechanism and the capitals make more investments to transform the landscape to a stable area.
Forest resources, camphor trees and cane-sugar become the main business of the San-sin plain, too. In other words, San-sin plain pave its way to a capitalized economical system, ultimately.
6. In the meantime, nation mechanism was also the main power to influence the social structure on San-sin plain. Nation mechanism constructed a good space stratum, and the regional social activities also held in the same administrative division.
The local society was constructed by nation mechanism. It helped the cultivation of San-sin, but in another way, it also made San-sin the same as all other areas in Taiwan.

[[alternative]]The content-analysis and meta-analysis of the researches in gifted education of Taiwan, R. O. C.
[[abstract]]The main purposes of this study are: (1) to investigate the outcomes of experimental variables of researches in gifted education from 1967 to 2001. The features of this analysis are included researchers’ background, related features, the traits of subjects, assessment materials, and the analysis methods of data; (2) to investigate the overall weighted mean- effect sizes of creativity, cognitive thinking abilities, the performance of achievement in creative thinking instruction with meta-analysis method, and to find out moderator variables that may influence the effects of creative thinking instruction.
After systematic searching for the literature from bibliography and electronic database, 441 researches were coded for content analysis, and the related data were calculated with frequency and percentage. Besides, 15 researches on creative thinking instruction were coded for meta-analysis, and the effect- sizes were calculated by Hedges and Olkin’s(1985) procedure. Furthermore, this study was tested all coded features by ‘Categorical Model’ to find out moderator variables. The followings are major results of this study:
1. In content analysis
A. Researchers’ background
a. One group of core researchers conducts studies frequently on gifted education.
b. The number of female researchers has been increasing during those years, and almost catches up with that of male researchers.
c. Most researches on the current gifted education are almost finished by only one author, except for the dissertations/ theses. The number of working-alone researcher nearly doubles than that of group-working ones.
d. Only few teachers engaged in research.
B. Related features
a. The quantity of journals that dominates the sources of empirical researches conducted by dissertations/theses has been increasing those years.
b. Few researches on gifted education are issued in the journals of special education.
c. Topics keep changing every year. Some popular topics are: “Emotion Characteristics and Social Adaptation”, “Cognitive Thinking Characteristics”, “Carrier and Tracking”, and “Policies and System of Gifted Education”.
d. Different sources focus on different topics.
e. Survey and correlational researches are the methods used by the researchers most frequently.
C. The traits of subjects
a. Sampling areas focus on cities, and decrease from north to south.
b. The majority of samples are general ability gifted, especially for high- grade students in the elementary schools.
c. The different topics are not in a normal distribution.
d. Lack of studies for pre-school gifted, handicapped gifted, culturally disadvantage gifted, and underachieving gifted students.
e. Purposeful- sampling is the major method of sampling.
D. Assessment materials
a. Many researchers are willing to collect data with paper-writing instead of related instructional methods. But, it’s good to see that the following researchers use one more methods afterwards.
b. The 70% return rate of questionnaire is pretty high satisfactory.
c. Standardized assessment instruments are not enough, and they only focus on some specific topics.
E. The analysis methods for data
a. Most data processing methods rely on quantitative analysis. And statistics methods are usually adopted by basic and intermediate skills.
b. Statistics methods adopted more frequently are: “descriptive statistics”, “t/z test”, “analysis of variance“.
c. Most research topics used “descriptive statistics” statistic methods frequently.
2. In meta-analysis
A. The overall weighted mean- effect size of creative thinking on instructional studies was between middle and small magnitude.
B. The Instruction for creative thinking promotes different creativities. The descending orders of the weighted mean- effect size of creativities were flexibility, originality, fluency, and elaboration.
C. Instruction for creative thinking promotes the performance of high-level cognitive thinking and achievements of gifted students.
D. The moderator variables of creative thinking studies were sources of teaching materials, and many kinds of assessment instrument.
Base on the results of study, the researchers also provided a discussion and made some recommendations to upgrade the reliability and efficiency of gifted education.

[[alternative]]A Study on Self-efficacy and Career Planning of Music Teachers at Junior High School
[[abstract]]The study tries to explore the mental need and development model of music teachers, and discuss the relationship between “self-efficacy” and “career planning” and their importance. It focuses on the junior high school music teachers about their“self-efficacy” and“career planning”, study the present situation and the individual difference. We hope the result of this study can be guidelines for junior high school music teachers doing their life planning.
This study used questionnaires according to the research subjects. The first step of this study is collecting and summing up the theories about mental need and development models of teachers, self-efficacy and career planning. Then, according to analysis of literatures, making the study frame, we investigate and analyze using the researcher self-edited “Junior high school music teacher self-efficacy questionnaire” and“Junior high school music teacher career planning questionnaire”. The samples are mainly public junior high school music teachers in Taiwan. In the respects of “Teacher mental need and development models”,“Junior high school music teacher self-efficacy”,“The connection between junior high school music teacher personal properties, school features and self-efficacy”,“The career planning of junior high school music teachers”,“The connection between junior high school music teacher self-efficacy and career planning”, we have specific findings and conclusions as following:
1.To what degree junior high school music teachers meet their mental needs positively affects the establishment of correct philosophy and measure of value in life.
2.The enhancement of junior high school music teachers’ recognition of “Self-efficacy” distinguishes teaching efficiency and promotes teaching quality.
3.Junior high school music teachers should pay attention to staged “learning plan” and make their personal short-term, mid-term, and long-term “career-planning”. It can help develop their multi-dimensional abilities and encourage self-development.
4.Junior high school music teachers are supposed to emphasize the correlation of “Self-efficacy” and “career planning”, for the two items are closely related and interact with each other. Thus, during the process of training teachers, we should add them to the curriculum and lay emphasis on the coordination of theory and reality.
According to the result of this study, the author had proposed some suggestions to music educational administration and further study, which can be reference materials for educational administration, schools, junior high school music teachers and the researchers to come.
[[alternative]]Study of magnetism of Ag-Co ultrathin films on Pt(111) surface
[[abstract]]本實驗以實驗室自製的表面磁光柯爾效應儀(Surface Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect,SMOKE)進行銀-鈷超薄膜的表面磁性研究。配合歐傑電子能譜術(Auger Electron Spectroscopy,AES)鑑別樣品清潔及表面成分。鍍膜時,利用歐傑訊號強度比,計算出薄膜厚度。並配合低能量電子繞射儀(Low Energy Electron Diffractometer,LEED),研究表面結構。加上離子濺射,來了解經過退火效應後,界面組成成分的變動。
在Pt(111)表面鍍上2ML的鈷超薄膜之後,再鍍上1ML的銀超薄膜,發現在鍍上非磁性的銀薄膜之後,柯爾訊號(Kerr signal)如預期中並無變化。而矯頑磁場Hc(coercive field)有些許增大。然而,再繼續鍍銀上去,Hc並未隨著銀厚度的繼續增加而有增大。接著使樣品經過710K的退火溫度後,發現到不僅柯爾訊號增強,而且矯頑磁場也增強許多。
對1ML Ag/1ML Co/Pt(111)進行磁性探測,使樣品經過710K的退火溫度後,在降溫過程中意外發現到,大約在475K(約200℃)左右仍有柯爾訊號。但是,將樣品繼續降回室溫,竟然發生柯爾訊號消失的奇特現象。而且,再將溫度升到475K左右,柯爾訊號又出現,再降回室溫又消失,重複好幾次皆是如此,具有可回復(reversible)的特性。經過仔細研究,發現是由於在降到室溫左右的時候,矯頑磁場Hc之量值有明顯的增加。因此,外加有限的磁場大小,無法量測出柯爾訊號。實際上,柯爾訊號仍然存在,只是因為Hc變得很大,導致量測不到柯爾訊號。
為了了解此一現象的物理意義,我們由AES、LEED及紫外光電子能譜術(Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectroscopy,UPS)來探討物理原因,觀察在475K左右及室溫的變化情形。從LEED及UPS並未發現到有明顯的變化。不過,由AES訊號,我們觀察到在475K左右的時候,鈷和銀的歐傑訊號,有些微的下降,表示有部分的鈷原子和部分的銀原子往下擴散。而降回室溫時,鈷和銀的歐傑訊號,又有些微的上升,表示部分的鈷原子和部分的銀原子往上移動。所以,我們初步研判,在高溫時,鈷和白金的界面較為重要。而在低溫時,變成鈷和銀的界面較為重要,導致矯頑磁場增大,使得柯爾訊號量測不到。
