    Delphine

    No full text
Delphine is one of the last great novels belonging to the epistolary tradition of the eighteenth century. Madame de Stael is an exception in the literary panorama of that time. In a fictional production that allows easy solutions, she sets the status of this genre at a very high level in defending it against its detractors. Without succeeding to compete with the great models of the past, Delphine is fully entitled to be placed next to two major novels of the day, Aline and Valcour and Oberman, of which it shares the crisis of values and language. The feminine and / or feminist discourse and the discourse of love are far from being a priority; the passion contained in this text is oriented primarily toward the social and political context in terms of legitimacy. Delphine appeals to the anti-Napoleonic opposition and, more generally, to all those who experience dramatically in their country the ostracism of ideas, eternal victims of the conflict between the individual and the prevailing ideology. The undersigned has considered the philological part of the present edition included in Oeuvres Complètes: determination of the original edition, identification of the various editions, textual compilation and study of the alternatives. She has also introduced the volume in three parts: "Delphine et la tradition épistolaire", "Histoire des éditions" and "Etablissement du texte." The interest of this publication resides above all in the fact that it offers the public the true text of Delphine, which the author personally wanted and imagined. The editions of both 18th and 19th centuries circulated different texts. The text which is still today the most known among all was published posthumously by the son of Madame de Staël and comprises many interventions dictated by excessive filial solicitude

In France, towards the end of the 1980s, the appetite for mangas and Japanese animation began in earnest with the broadcasting of Japanese cartoons on French television. By 1994, early fans published fanzines containing comics inspired by mangas that were difficult to access (contrary to the Japanese cartoons on television). Young authors, most of them barely twenty years of age at the time, tried to emulate their Asian role models, but inevitably their own European cultural background intervened, may it be in the language or in the way they dealt with comic-book genre codes

The manuscript Aix-en-Provence, municipal library, 428 (306) contains two different texts. The first, La Chanson de Bertrand du Guesclin, is an epic poem telling the life of Bertrand du Guesclin (1320-1380), a Britain knight from a modest background who took part of the One Hundred Years War, and would become the constable of France. This biography has been written by a certain Cuvelier between 1380 and 1385, right after Bertrand’s death. The second is a set of seven lyric poems written in memory of Bertrand, three of which were written by Eustache Deschamps. The first text, historical, epic, biographical, and poetic at the same time, has a considerable importance in the literary production of the day as the last chanson de geste to be written in French. The poems celebrating the constable are fully in line with the lyric revival of the end of the 14th century. The three volumes of this edition provide the original text of the manuscript, descriptions of the other manuscripts, a literary review including a study of the context and new information about the author, a linguistic study, critical notes, a glossary, an index, a list of proverbs, and a bibliography

    No full text
Since the eighties, publishing houses release a lot of memoirs about one’s mother and this enthusiasm reflects contemporaneous mankind’s concerns. In Delphine de Vigan, Annie Ernaux or Charles Juliet’s novels, this autobiographical literature straying onto the dead mother questions her origins but also encourages the author to deal with the emptiness and fragmentation of his own identity. By fixing these problematical filiations in literature, author and reader mourn over their mother but also grieve the possibility of catching reality. The filiation narrative about one’s mother replaces this desire by a new literary transmission welcoming suspicion and enlightening the blind legacies.
