Suitability of pristine carbon nanotube yarn tool for material removal by electrical discharges
High-intensity electrical discharges are used in the unconventional technique known as electrical discharge machining (EDM) to machine metals of any hardness. Due to their extraordinary conductivity and strength, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have recently been explored in EDM too. However, material removal with CNT yarn (CNTY) has not been studied thoroughly. This work advocates the use of a pristine CNTY as an EDM tool. The feasibility is examined through characterization and material removal experiments. The measurements show that the CNTY ( 100 mu m) multi-ply tools extend tool life and, therefore, machining time by more than 14 s in the air and nearly 2.5 s in the oil. Other factors that restrict machining include intensified discharges and the shielding effect of the carbide layer formed on the workpiece
Using an rtificial neural network approach for supplier evaluation process and a sectoral application
In this study, a-three layered feed-forward backpropagation Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model is developed for the supplier firms in ceramic sector on the bases of user effectiveness for using concurrent engineering method. The developed model is also questioned for its usability in the supplier evaluation process. The network\"s independent variables of the developed model are considered as input variables of the network and dependent variables are used as output variables. The values of these variables are determined with factor analysis. For obtaining the date set to be used in the analysis, a questionnaire form with 34 questions explaining the network\"s input and output variables are prepared and sent out to 52 firms active in related sector. For obtaining more accurate results from the network, the questions having factor load below 0,6 are eliminated from the analysis. With the elimination of the questions from the analysis, the answers given for 22 questions explaining 8 input variables are used for the evaluation the network\"s inputs, the answers given for 3 questions explaining output variables are used for the evaluation the network\"s outputs. The data set of the network\"s are divided into four equal groups with k-fold method in order to get four different alternative network structures. As a conclusion, the forecasted firm scores giving the minimum error from the network test simulation and real firm scores are found to be very close to each other, thus, it is concluded that the developed artificial neural network model can be used effectively in the supplier evaluation process

Bu çal man n amac ; Giresun da ikamet eden yerel halk n, yayla turizmine
yönelik alg lar n ölçmektir. Bu amaç do rultusunda, yerel halk n yayla turizm
geli imine yönelik sosyo kültürel, ekonomik, çevresel ve yayla turizm geli imine
verilen destek düzeylerini incelemektir.
Giresun ilinde ikamet eden 461 ki iden olu an bir örnekleme anket yöntemi
kullan larak çal maya kat l mlar sa lanm t r. Anketlerden 70 tanesi eksik veya
yanl doldurulmas sebebiyle de erlendirmeye al nmam t r. 391 adet veri analizlere

Static and dynamic behavior of hemp natural fiber felt biocomposites

Published with license by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.Biocomposites are a strong alternative to synthetic fiber-reinforced composites due to their environmentally friendly nature, ease of availability, cost-effectiveness, and non-toxicity. Felt biocomposites are generally favored for their better sound and temperature absorption capabilities rather than load-bearing materials due to their comparatively weak mechanical properties. However, their mechanical performance is greatly improved when they are fabricated as plates using traditional techniques like compression molding. This study focuses on the mechanical characterization and comparison of different types of hot-pressed felt biocomposite plates with a 50% by weight natural fiber content. Four unique biocomposite felts were produced and subjected to tensile, compressive, shear, instrumented Charpy v-notched impact, and drop weight impact tests. All felt kinds are reinforced with short hemp fibers and four distinct polymers are used as matrix materials, namely, polypropylene, recycled polypropylene, polylactic acid, and low-melt polyester fiber. Static and impact tests performed on those materials revealed that each type of natural fiber felt biocomposite has its unique features, and their characterized static and impact behaviors vary significantly from one to another. A New Destination for Yayla Tourism in Eastern Black Sea: Ta köprü Yayla
Yayla, Türkiye'de çok yayg n olan dönemlik bir yerle medir. Do u Karadeniz K y Da lan, ülkemizde geleneksel yaylac l k faaliyetinin sürdürüldü ü alanlar n ba nda gelir. Söz konusu da l k ku aktaki Kalkanl Da lar , hayvanc l k ekonomisinin ön plâna ç kt , yo un bir yaylac l k bölgesi olarak dikkati çeker. Ancak son y llarda ya anan de i im/dönü üm süreci, geleneksel yaylac l da yak ndan etkilemi tir. Bunun sonucunda turistik i levlerin geli meye ba lad gözlemlenmi tir. Çal mam za konu olan Ta köprü de turistik i levleri geli mi yaylalara tipik bir örnektir. Gümü hane ilinin Merkez ilçe s n rlar içerisinde bulunan Ta köprü'de daha çok piknik, kampç l k ve yürüyü gibi rekreasyonel etkinlikler günübirlik olarak sürdürülmektedir. Böyle olmakla birlikte, plânlamadan büyük ölçüde yoksun bir turistik geli menin do al ve kültürel ortam bozulmalar na neden oldu u aç kça görülmektedir. Ayr ca yerel nüfusun turizm aktivitesine entegre edilememesi de önemli bir olumsuzluk olarak de erlendirilmi tir.
Gezi-gözlem metodunun uyguland bir saha çal mas olan bu ara t rman n konusunu, Ta köprü yaylas n n turizm co rafyas aç s ndan incelenmesi olu turmaktad r. Bu ba lamda çal man n amac n , sahan n yayla turizmi potansiyelinin ortaya konulmas ve yayla turizminin do al/kültürel çevreyle uyumlu bir ekilde geli tirilebilmesi için al nmas gereken önlemlerin tart lmas olu turmaktad r. Turkey. Mountains along the Eastern Black Sea Coast serve as the most important
area for the traditional yayla activities carried out in Turkey. The Kalkanl
Mountains region, part the Black Sea mountain ranges, is dominated by
stockbreeding economy and intensive yayla activities. However, the recent
process of change/transition within the region has resulted in increased tourist
activities, which have also had significant effects on traditional yayla activities.
Ta köprü is a typical example for the yaylas, having highly-developed touristic
functions. Located within the municipality of the Central District of Gümü hane
Province, Ta köprü offers mainly daily activities such as picnicking, camping and
trekking for visitors. However, it is obvious that rapid and unregulated touristic
development results in natural and cultural damage. Moreover, the failure to
integrate local people in tourism activities should be regarded as an important
problem.
The subject of this field study -which was conducted according to the
travel and observation method- was the current situation of Ta köprü yayla in
terms of tourism geography. The aim of the study was to reveal the tourism
potential of Ta köprü yayla and to discuss possible measures to ensure
development of yayla tourism in harmony with the natural/cultural environment.
The study findings showed that recreational activities have rapidly developed in
Ta köprü yayla and that the traditional activities, as well as the stockbreeding
economy, have lost importance in the surrounding yaylas. In addition, increasing
tourism pressure exerted on the study area was observed to have clearly negative
impacts on both the natural and cultural environment. Thus, uncontrolled
economic restructuring, which has failed to reflect the characteristics of the local
environment, can be regarded as the weakest point of Ta köprü yayla
Lake Yayla (Buldan)and Recreation Potential
Bu çalışmada fazla tanınmayan ve daha önçe detaylı bir etüdün yapılmadığı Yayla gölü Çeşitli özellikleriyle ele alınmış, göl çevresinin bir rekreasyon alanı olarak değerlendirilmesiyle ilgili bazı gözlem ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Denizli ilinin Buldan ilçesinin sınırları içinde yer alan Yayla gölü, sığ ve küçük alanlı bir göl olup, biyolojik zenginliği nedeniyle birinci derece doğal sit alanı ilan edilmiştir. Göl çevresi, başta Buldan olmak üzere yakın konumda bulunan birçok yerleşim biriminin önemli bir rekreasyon alanını durumundadır.Lake Yayla is a place that is not known too much and has not been studied in detail before. In this research, it has been examined with some of it's peculiarities and done some observations and propositions aiming that the surrounding of the lake to be appraised as a recreation area. Lake Yayla is situated in the Buldan district of Denizli province. It is a little and a shallow lake and because of it's biological wealth it has been announced as a first degree natural site area. The environment of the lake is an important recreation area of Buldan and many other close residential districts
Beypazarı-Eğriova yayla ekosisteminin bütüncül yönetimi üzerinde bir araştırma
Türkiye'de yazın yaylalara çıkmak, geleneksel bir aktivitedir. Son yıllarda ise bu alanlar, rekreasyon ve turizm faaliyetleri açısından da dikkat çekmeye başlamıştır. Çalışma alam olan Beypazarı-Eğriova Yayla Ekosistemi Ankara'nın 126 km. kuzeybatısında yer almasına rağmen henüz Karaşar halkı haricinde çok az tanınmaktadır. Araştırmada amaç; Egriova yayla ekosisteminin turizm ve rekreasyona yönelik faaliyetlere açılması durumunda; alanının sahip olduğu değerlerin korunması ile insan aktiviteleri arasındaki çelişkiyi mimimuma indirecek "bütüncül bir yönetim anlayışının" ortaya konmasıdır. Araştırma için "anket" ve Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri kapsamında "nitelik haritalarının ortaya konması" (alan analizleri) iki temel yöntem olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda, öncelikle alana ilişkin veriler toplanarak ve bilgisayar ortamına aktarılmış; daha sonra alan analizleri gerçekleştirilmiş ve alan kullanım kararlan belirlenmiş ve son olarak da bütüncül yönetime ilişkin esaslar ve organizasyon modeli ortaya konmuştur.Abstract In Turkey, moving to yayla (high plateau) in summer is a traditional activity. Nowadays, these areas are becoming attractive for recreation and tourism activities. Although Beypazan-Egnova yayla ecosystem, the study area, is located in 126 km. northwest of Ankara; the area is only familiar to very limited number of people except for Karaşar public. The aim of this study is to evaluate an "integrated management approach" which minimizes the contradictions between conservation of Eğriova yayla' assets and human activities if area opens to recreation and tourism activities. For the study, Geographic Information Systems, used to land analysis and display of the quality maps, and questionnaire were determined as two main methods. In this context; as a first step, all relevant data were complied into the computer for making land analysis. Secondly, land use decisions were taken. And lastly, some fundamental principles and organization model for "integrated management" of Eğriova yayla ecosystem were determined
Financial Stability of the Turkish Banking Sector
In the narrow sense, financial stability is defined as price stability and the soundness of financial institutions. Although this definition can be extended to cover the functioning of financial markets, asset price volatility, risk management practices of institutions, etc., financial soundness of banks is still at the center of stability concerns. In this context, several methods have been developed to measure stability in terms of a common metric. In this paper, we analyze the stability of the Turkish banking sector in the period of 2000-2006 by applying an option theory based method that allows the estimation of default probability of the sector. We conclude that stability (default probability) was the weakest (highest) in 2001 and it entered in a healthy path after 2003. Furthermore, the sector resisted strongly to the May-June turmoil of 2006. of natural conditions has facilitated development of yayla activities in coastal mountains of
the Eastern Blacksea region. The research area of this study, surrounding of Çak rgöl which is
located on Kalkanl Mountains has been used as an area for yayla activities based on animal
breeding for a long time. However, the process of change and transformation in recent years
has also affected the conventional yayla activities. Accordingly, it has been observed that
touristic functions have begun to develop. This mountainous area, at the altitude of 2200-3000
meters, has the potential opportunities for both summer and winter tourism. On the other
hand, in the areas used in summer, recreational activities such as picnic, camping, and jogging
are daily carried out. Moreover, some attempts are being made to develop winter tourism in
the area. However, a plan which would cover local population, local economy, and
natural/cultural environmental features should be prepared. Because the aim should be to
integrate local economy with tourism activities. Otherwise, transforming power of tourism
would adversely affect the rural activities in the region and natural/cultural environmental
deformations would be unavoidable.
In the current study, the Yaylas near Çak rgöl and yayla activities in the course of
functional changes were dealt with. The purpose of the study is to explore the characteristics
of the yayla activities with its causes and effects. In order to reach this purpose, excursion and
observation method was used. The major findings of the study are that the traditional yayla
activities have been rapidly losing importance, stock breeding-oriented economy has been put
aside, and recreative yayla activities have been developing. In addition, the negative outcomes
of the increasing pressure of tourism were observed in the area
Failure Analysis of a Drop Tested Wall-Mounted Air Conditioner Indoor Unit: Simulation and Experimental Analysis
Dynamic behaviour of a wall-mounted air conditioner indoor unit is analysed under drop impact condition. For simulation analysis, a finite element analysis code, known as Ansys Autodyn, is used. Physical drop tests are performed according to ASTM D5276 and ASTM D880 standards and strain gauges are used to measure the effective strains by attaching to specific areas subjected to excessive deformation. By recording drop test with high speed camera, the impact contact duration is also detected. By comparing experimental and numerical results, the validation of finite element analysis is performed. Product improvements are made for the damaged areas and validated by drop test. Conducting physical drop tests with strain gauges together with finite element analysis decreases product development lead time, reduces development costs and eliminates the product's potential risks in advance. The approach presented with this work can be a reference guide for assessing the dynamic response of impact sensitive home and industrials applicants
