Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Aktivitas Antibakteri Komposit Ag – Tulang Ikan Cakalang pada Staphylococcus aureus
Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri komposit Ag – tulang ikan cakalang pada Staphylococcus aureus. Tulang ikan cakalang dikeringkan, dihaluskan dan diayak 65 mesh kemudian dicampur dengan larutan perak nitrat dengan perbandingan Ag : tulang ikan sebesar 5:1 , 4:2, dan 3:3 selama 1 jam pada suhu 70 ℃. Campuran kemudian di kalsinasi pada suhu 650 ℃ selama 2 jam. Uji aktivitas antibakteri dari komposit yang terbentuk dikerjakan dengan metode sumuran menggunakan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri pada perbandingan 4:2 dengan lama waktu pencampuran 1 jam paling efektif untuk menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan diameter zona hambat sebesar 25 mm. Penelitian ini menunjukkan valorisasi dari produk sampingan industri makanan seperti tulang ikan untuk membentuk bahan yang berpotensi berharga sebagai bahan implan tulang yang resistan terhadap infeksi bakteriResearch has been conducted to determine the antibacterial activity of Ag - Bone skipjack tuna toward Staphylococcus aureus. Skipjack tuna bone dried, mashed and sifted 65 mesh then mixed with silver nitrate solution with a ratio of Ag : fish bones of 5:1, 4:2, and 3:3 for 1 hour at 70 ℃. The mixture was then calcined at 650 ℃ for 2 hours. Antibacterial activity test of the composites formed was done by the method of wells using the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. The results showed that antibacterial activity at a ratio of 4: 2 with a one-hour mixing time was most effective for inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with a 25 mm inhibition zone diameter. This study shows the valorization of food industry byproducts such as fish bones to form potentially valuable ingredients for bone implants resistant to bacterial infection
Penggunaan Karbon Aktif Cangkang Pala - TiO2 Untuk Fotodegradasi Zat Warna Metanil Yellow
Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui pengaruh perbandingan berat karbon aktif cangkang pala (KA) : titanium dioksida (TiO2), konsentrasi awal metanil yellow, dan lama penyinaran UV pada jumlah metanil yellow yang terdegradasi menggunakan KA-TiO2. KA dibuat melalui aktivasi arang cangkang pala menggunakan NaCl pada 700 oC. Pembuatan fotokatalis KA-TiO2 dengan perbandingan berat 0,1:9,9 (KA 1%) dan 0,5:9,5 (KA 5%) dilakukan dengan cara sonifikasi. Interaksi KA-TiO2 dengan metanil yellow dilakukan pada konsentrasi awal 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 20, 30, 40, dan 50 ppm selama 3 jam. Eksperimen pengaruh lama penyinaran dilakukan pada variasi 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 18, dan 20 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makin tinggi konsentrasi awal dan makin lama penyinaran, makin banyak metanil yellow terdegradasi. Fotokatalis dengan perbandingan berat KA:TiO2 0,1:9,9 mendegradasi metanil yellow lebih banyak dengan persen degradasi maksimum 66% pada konsentrasi awal 6 ppm.A research had been done to determine the effect of weight ratio of nutmeg shell activated carbon (KA) : titanium dioxide TiO2, initial concentration of metanil yellow, and UV irradiation time on the quantity of metanil yellow degraded using KA-TiO2. KA was prepared by activating nutmeg shell charcoal using NaCl at 700 oC. KA-TiO2 having weight ratio of 0.1:9,.9 (KA 1%) and 0.5:9.5 (KA 5%) were prepared by sonification. Interaction of KA-TiO2 with metanil yellow was performed at initial concentration of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 ppm for 3 hours. The experiment of UV irradiation time was performed at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 18, and 20 hours. The results showed that the higher the initial concentration of metanil yellow and that the longer the irradion time, the higher the amount of metanil yellow degraded. KA:TiO2 having weight ratio of 0.1:9.9 degraded more metanil yellow than that of 0.5:9.5 with maximum degradation of 66% at initial concentration of 6-10 ppm
