The Polish missionary media of social communication has been appearing since 1882. In the analyzed period, they performed their role very well in the period of the covid-19 pandemic. They quickly reacted to a crisis situation, informing about it fairly and widely, and in some titles it translated into inviting readers to spiritual and material commitment to specific needs. A special tool in this is the media communicating via the Internet, especially social media, which allow for immediate information and reactions to a short- or long-term crisis situation. The study shows that the publishing functions performed by this press include: informational and journalistic, promoting the mission and the missionary idea, catechetical and formation, new evangelization and evangelization, fundraising for the mission, awakening missionary vocations, organizing mission groups, opinion-forming and attitude-forming. It seems that in the main assumptions, the implementation of these functions at the level of ideas has not changed, and the differences result primarily from changes in the communication technique and the diversity of target groups. Before starting the research, the following hypotheses and research theses were formulated, which we then tried to verify (hypotheses) or confirm (theses) in the course of the research. Thesis 1: during the covid-19 pandemic, leading mission journals performed the press functions for which they were created – has been confirmed. Hypothesis 1: the press functions performed by the press media and the media communicating via the Internet differed – it was verified negatively. However, it is noticeable that individual media are used based on their technical capabilities (quick information and immediate help was possible through the media communicating via the Internet) and target groups (Internet users are younger and the content was usually prepared with them in mind). Hypothesis 2: the main functions performed were: information, organization and fundraising – in the field of assistance to the publisher’s legal entity – has been positively verified. The Polish missionary media of social communication has been appearing since 1882. The Missionary Procuration of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (1969-2022) is a national institution supporting Oblate, but not only, missionary activity ad gentes. Its structure also includes: Public Association of the Faithful “Friends of the Oblate Missions” (since 1969), Association Oblacka Pomoc Misjom “Lumen Caritatis” (since 2009), the Missionary Roads magazine and website (since 2014), and the Mazenodianum Institute Foundation (since 2021). These institutions, apart from the association of “Friends of the Oblate Missions”, previously operated separately. From the very beginning, the Missionary Procuration has been associated with the basic areas of its activity: providing spiritual and material assistance to missionaries and the works they carry out; supporting the awakening of missionary vocations; propagating the missionary idea both among the clergy and lay people, also through: the activities of the Friends of the Mission, the activities of the “Lumen Caritatis” association, the publishing of the “Missionary Roads” magazine, the www.misacyjne.pl website, books and ephemeral publications, presence in other social media, parish animations and mission retreats, conducting social campaigns, other evangelistic, cultural and scientific events related to the promotion of Oblate missions. The conducted research shows, among others, that: this activity in many of its aspects may be paradigmatic for other national mission institutions (eg WYD or the missionary secretariat of the Divine Word Missionaries work in a similar way). The realities of missionary activity and research have also shown that the centralization of missionary activities in one institutional entity within the religious or diocesan jurisdiction is a better solution than their atomization. The purpose of missionary institutions is not only spiritual and material help for the mission, but also a much wider multifaceted activity; in the activities of ecclesial missionary institutions, both proven and modern missionary tools should be used, and in-depth mission formation, as well as the creation of communities, groups of people engaged in mission is a condition of permanent missionary assistance. The Missionary Procuration of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (1969-2022) is a national institution supporting Oblate, but not only, missionary activity ad gentes. Research interest in the Łaski family of Korab coat of arms resulted in an array of interesting works and several times more postulates and research queries. Studies from the turn of the 19th and 20th century need to be updated and completed. This concerns both the factual issues and interpretational ones. In his article the author undertakes to accomplish these postulates in relation to the period of education and peregrinations of three representatives of the family from Łask: Hieronim, Jan and Stanisław, sons of Jarosław and Zuzanna of Bąkowa Góra and nephews of chancellor and primate Jan Łaski. Apart from reconstructing some events, the author reinterpreted the preserved source material and juxtaposed the results with the previous state of research. This resulted in identifying some inaccuracies reproduced for decades or statements unconfirmed by any sources which are deep rooted in the historiography. W artykule autor podejmuje próbę realizacji tych postulatów w odniesieniu do czasu edukacji i peregrynacji trzech przedstawicieli rodziny z Łaska: Hieronima, Jana i Stanisława, synów Jarosława i Zuzanny z Bąkowej Góry, bratanków zaś kanclerza i prymasa Jana Łaskiego. Obok rekonstrukcji wydarzeń dokonano ponownej interpretacji zachowanego materiału źródłowego i zestawiono otrzymane wyniki z dotychczasowym stanem badań. Efektem tego zabiegu jest wskazanie powtarzanych przed dekady nieścisłości lub niemających ugruntowania źródłowego twierdzeń, które utrwaliły się dotychczasowej historiografii

"Without Mezuzah or Menorah". Białystok. Biała siła, czarna pamięć (Białystok. White Power, Black Memory) by Marcin Kącki

The author of the article presents a book by Marcin Kącki, a journalist of "Gazeta Wyborcza", entitled Białystok. Biała siła, czarna pamięć (Białystok. White Power, Black Memory), published in 2015. In the reportage, the author tries to present the reasons why the city in Podlasie began to be presented as a xenophobic space, especially unfriendly to Jews. This is in contrast to the multicultural reality of Białystok, a city inhabited by Poles, Belarussians, Tatars, Ukrainians, and a few Jews. It is a city where Ludwik Zamenhof, the creator of Esperanto, was born. According to Kącki, the cause of radicalization is the fact that Jews from Białystok have been wiped from the social memory. Kącki's book has aroused great controversy.JAN MIKLAS-FRANKOWSKI – dr, adiunkt w Zakładzie Komunikacji Społecznej i Kulturowej w Instytucie Filozofii, Socjologii i Dziennikarstwa Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego. Tekst jest analizą strategii politycznej Jana Józefa Lipskiego w czerwcowych wyborach 1989 roku. Sięgając do literatury i materiałów archiwalnych autor pokazuje, jak Lipski - zdeklarowany socjalista i agnostyk - szukał poparcia społecznego manifestując swoje przywiązanie do Kościoła i tzw. wartości chrześcijańskich oraz jako przeciwnik aborcji. Strategię Lipskiego autor analizuje jako przykład kształtowania się dyskursu hegemonicznego polskiej demokracji nieświeckiej dowodząc, że "kompromis aborcyjny" został zawarty już w Czerwcu ’89This text analyzes Jan Józef Lipski’s political strategy in the June 1989 elections. Drawing on literature and archival materials, the author shows how Lipski - a declared socialist and agnostic - sought public support and manifested his commitment to the Church and Christian values, and that he opposed abortion. The author examines Lipski’s strategy as an example of the formation of the hegemonic discourse of Polish non-secular democracy, proving that the "abortion compromise" had already been concluded in June ’89. Keywords: abortion, democracy, transformation, socialism, Church, June ’89, discourse, censorshi

    No full text
The article relates to the studio both as an institution which has operated for three decades in different economic systems and various legal and organisations forms and as a creative team that has made films. The authors are: Ewa Sobolewska, a film producer associated with the Studio since the very beginning, its president for over ten years to date, and Jan Zamojski, an academic and script writer cooperating with the Studio as the author of adaptations and scripts for the films of the series Fourteen Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by Leszek Kołakowski. The article adopts a perspective of Production Culture studies initiated by J.T. Caldwell, with the use of the so-called emic perspective and a narrative interview. It is composed of a methodological part and authors’ comments to the questions they posed to each other. The narratives provide impressions from the period of developing the concept of the film and from the film set itself. They also contain more general self-reflections on the role of the script writer and the role of the producer in the creation of a film and reflections on the role of the Poznań Studio of Animation Films for the culture of film, including its local aspect.

The author of the paper indicates several aspects which connect the texts describing the battle of Khotyn in 1673. Epical attempts at showing those events complied with the epical model known as ‘native heroicum’, which was popular on Polish lands in those days. According to this model, the primary rule of verismo was combined with attempts at making narration more attractive. Some of them have been described in this paper. Moreover, the author discussed the method of depicting Tatar‑Turkish armies in the works, paying attention to their abundance. The exemplary material was derived, above all, from voluminous poems by Jan Ślizień, Mateusz Kuligowski, Samuel Leszczyński and Zbigniew Morsztyn
