Media communicating via the Internet have become tools of evangelizing influence since the early 1990s. They became the subject of research for the author, in terms of  how well they are known to the Internet users depending on the degree of religiosity they declared (believers and regular users, believers and occasional practitioners, non-believers), which allowed to formulate pastoral postulates and conclusions. The survey included persons from a representative, nationwide sample (N = 1000) who  completed standardized CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) questionnaire interviews and VIDI (Virtual Individual In-Depth Interviews – individual indepth interviews).  This is the first such extensive research on Poland. According to the research, the knowledge and use of Christian media that communicate through the Internet, including the missionary ones, changes depending on the respondents’ declared degree of religiosity.Media communicating via the Internet have become tools of evangelizing influence since the early 1990s. The conducted analyzes show the technological development of the means of social communication, which from the very beginning aroused the interest of the Church. The author analyzed their evolution from petroglyphs and pictograms, through the invention of printing to the phenomenon of new media. In the teaching of the Church, initial suspicion turned into limited confidence in using them in evangelization. The Popes see in them a tool of evangelization and Christian formation, but, at the same time, they warn against possible misuse. The missionary magazines issued after the Vaticanum Secundum were analyzed – 33 titles in all, of which nine ceased their activity in recent years. The author presented the probable causes of this phenomenon. Topics of new missionary media in Poland, namely, their emergence, development and perspectives will constitute the second part of this work

The new missionary media have become instruments of missionary influence since the early 1990s. They have become the subject of research for the author, in terms of their knowledge, drivers and barriers by Internet users, as well as drawing postulates and missionological and media studies. The survey included people from a representative, nationwide sample (N = 1000) who completed standardized CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) questionnaire interviews and VIDI (Virtual Individual In-Depth Interviews - individual in-depth interviews). The conducted research shows that 58% of the society knows new missionary media, and 38% use them, less than 1/3 of those declaring themselves to be believers. Among those who have ever used the new missionary media, they are primarily the source of mission-related content (45%), followed by content related to matters of faith (40%). Other thematic areas - persecution of Christians (24%), political and social situation in so-called Third World (23%), dialogue (cultural, ecumenical, inter-religious) (21%), as well as travel (20%) – are mentioned by much smaller groups of respondents

The Poznań Foundation of Humanitarian Relief “Redemptoris Missio” originated twenty-five years ago. Its mission is to provide professional medical assistance to missionaries and mission centers. It is the first foundation which involved lay people in the missionary activity of the Catholic Church. It was also founded mostly by lay people and is still managed by them. Many lay volunteers are also engaged in its work. In this study the author describes the  genesis of the Foundation and its goals in the context of the pastoral paradigm. The analytical-critical method of its functioning was analyzed, as well as analysis of the source documents of the foundation. On the basis of the foundation\u27s activities an institutional model of secular involvement in the Church’s missionary activity is presented, which can be replicated in other pastoral centers

Perception of the missionary activity of Father Marian Żelazek SVD in Poland on the basis of the press and new Polish-language media

Artykuły z nim związane najczęściej publikowane były w czasie, kiedy został nominowany do Pokojowej Nagrody Nobla.Fr. Żelazek (b. 1918) is an iconic figure in the missionary activity of the Church. His work was covered by lay and church press. This article is an analysis of the press and new media. Newspapers were divided into two categories: lay and Christian, with an emphasis on missionary magazines published by the SVD, Fundacja Pomocy Humanitarnej [Humanitarian Foundation] Redemptoris Missio, and others. Several hundred texts were researched. Polish media present Fr. Żelazek SVD as a missionary: man of prayer, full of God; man of dialogue, teaching others how to proclaim the Gospel through catechesis and example of life; man looking after the sick, poor and illiterate; man giving impulses to new initiatives (for instance, volunteers for missions, interreligious dialogue, integrated schools). He is one of few churchmen presented in a positive light by both Christian media and neutral ones, or even hostile to the Church. Most articles about him come from the time when he was a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
