No full textReproduktionsstrategien stellen einen florierenden Bereich der evolutionären Sozialpsychologie dar. Aus differentieller Perspektive hat dabei das Konstrukt der Soziosexualität besondere Aufmerksamkeit gefunden. Die soziosexuelle Orientierung beschreibt die individuelle motivationale Tendenz, sich auch ohne eine feste partnerschaftliche Bindung auf Sexualität mit jemandem einzulassen. Unter der Annahme, dass evolvierte psychologische Mechanismen zur Regulation von Reproduktionsstrategien auf der Ebene automatischer, impulsiver Informationsverarbeitung operieren, soll hier die Entwicklung eines impliziten Assoziationstests (IAT) zur indirekten Erfassung von Soziosexualität beschrieben werde. Dabei wird auf die Vorzüge von Onlinestudien im Internet für den Vergleich neuer Messverfahren sowie auf die Tauglichkeit von Single Attribute IATs (SA-IATs) zur Messung assoziativer Objektrepräsentationen eingegangen. Überraschend war ein linearer Abfall der psychometrischen Güte des im Spätsommer sehr reliablen und validen Soziosexualitäts-SA-IATs bis Ende November. Dieser Verlauf ist jedoch parallel zu dem diverser indirekter Indikatoren der sexuellen Aktivität in Mitteleuropa. Saisonal variierende Faktoren der physischen und sozialen Umwelt werden in einem Arbeitsmodell als potentielle Ursachen der Veränderung des SA-IAT-Effekts über das Jahr diskutiert.Reproductive strategies constitute a flourishing area of evolutionary social psychology. From an individual differences perspective, the construct of sociosexuality received special interest. Sociosexual orientations describe the individual motivational tendency to engage in sexual activity with someone without having a committed relationship with that person. Based on the assumption that evolved psychological mechanisms for the regulation of reproductive strategies operate on the level of automatic, impulsive information processing, we developed an implicit association test (IAT) for the indirect assessment of sociosexuality. In this context, the advantages of online studies in the internet for the comparison of new measures, as well as the suitability of single attribute IATs (SA-IATs) for the assessment of associative object representations, shall be demonstrated. Surprisingly, there was a linear decline in the psychometric quality of the sociosexuality SA-IAT, which was highly reliable and valid at the end of summer, but not any more at the end of November. However, this trajectory parallels the ones of several indirect indicators of sexual activity in central Europe. In a working model, seasonally varying factors of the physical and social environment will be discussed as potential causes of the changes in the SA-IAT effect over the course of the year

Rosetta lander Philae - soil strength analysis
No full textThe landing of Philae, the lander of ESA’s ROSETTA-mission, on November 12th 2014 on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, was planned as a descent with passive landing activating a damper system and anchoring by harpoons at touch-down. The lander was not fixed to the ground at touch-down due to failing harpoons. The lander damper, however, was actuated for a length of 42.6 mm with a maximal speed of 0.08 m/s, while the lander speed was 1 m/s. Based on the damper data and a detailed mechanical model of Philae, an estimate can be made for the forces acting and the energy dissipated at touch-down inside the lander and the energy dissipated by ground penetration. The forces acting at ground penetration provide constraints on the mechanical strength of the soil. Two different soil models are investigated. Assuming constant compressive strength σ, one obtains σ ≈ 2 kPa. Assuming an increasing σs strength with penetration depth with results in σs = 3kPa/m fits the damper data best

No full textI detta Meddelande nr 55 från Veterinärhistoriska museet har författaren - professor emeritus Lars-Erik Appelgren - gjort ett urval av den korrespondens som Peter Hernquist hade med sina mentorer Carl von Linné och Abraham Bäck under sin vistelse i Frankrike, varvid ”Lärda nyheter” varit en ledstjärna för urvalet. Speciellt har breven till Bäck försetts med författarens personliga kommentarer men även kompletterats med faktaupplysningar från andra källor än breven om berörda nyheter. För att underlätta läsningen har dessa kommentarer omgetts med enkelkonturerad och utvikningarna med dubbelkonturerad ram. Lars-Erik Appelgren har inte bara genom sitt veterinärhistoriska författarskap utan också genom att ställa sina fackliga kunskaper och sin eminenta estetiska läggning till förfogande gjort Veterinärhistoriska museet ovärderliga tjänster. Det är med stor glädje jag noterar att region Uppsala nyligen visat sin uppskattning genom att tilldela Lars-Erik sitt Medicinhistoriska stipendium med motiveringen att de vill ”lyfta fram ett viktigt men ofta förbisett område inom medicinhistorien: veterinärmedicinen”. Interpreting Wage Bargaining Norms
No full textFrom the mid-1990s onwards, Swedish wage bargaining has been characterised by informal co-ordination of the wage claims of big unions and bargaining cartels. In particular, it has been understood that the manufacturing sector should lead by first agreeing on a pay increase, whereafter the service sector and public sector unions choose a similar increase. We analyse his setup with two possible theoretical interpretations: (i) the manufacturing sector as a tackelberg leader and (ii) a normative role for the manufacturing sector’s pay increase, upported either by unmodelled social pressure or a modeled loss aversion (envy) of the heltered sector unions. The conclusion of the analysis is that the normative or leading role of one sector – in the Swedish case the manufacturing sector – can potentially bring big benefits for employment and output. Generalising an idea suggested by Lars Calmfors and Anna Larsson, our analysis also generates a rudimentary theory of why the wage increase norm sometimes binds and sometimes not. A comparison of the model predictions and the observed outcomes of the last five wage bargaining rounds in Sweden suggests that the model is generally consistent with the empirical observations: wage moderation and norm observance are stronger when the manufacturing industry’s initial relative wage is low.wage bargaining; bargaining co-ordination
