Scholem. che reagirono subito dopo la pubblicazione, scambiandosi lettere e discutendo in vista della redazione di una recensione, che Benjamin scrisse ma non pubblicò mai e che è attualmente perduta. In particolare l'attenzione dei due intellettuali si sofferma su una sezione dedicata all'ebraismo di cui Bloch interpreta la storia e la teologia in termini di preambolo teorico e culturale alla costruzione della sua utopia politica percorsa da forti venature escatologiche ed apocalittiche.ITALIAN

No full textIl pensiero di Walter Benjamin offre lo spunto per una più ampia riflessione sul rapporto tra teologia e politica nelle sue complesse implicazioni che investono – a vari livelli e non senza contraddizioni – la realtà attuale. Gli autori si propongono di trattare il tema, nelle sue articolazioni, dal punto di vista teorico, basandosi sulle riflessioni di Walter Benjamin per allargare il proprio interesse ad altri studiosi (da Taubes a Schmitt, da Bloch a Scholem). Ci si è posti il problema teorico della fonte del potere, della fondazione della comunità, del rapporto tra «ordine del profano» e «ordine del divino», con la variante del messianico. Ci si confronta con il problema del tempo storico e del rapporto tra felicità terrena e felicità metafisica. Ci si interroga sui fondamenti teorici delle concezioni teocratiche che hanno messo in difficoltà la coesistenza pacifica e si cerca di rintracciare elementi che aiutino a superare tale difficoltà. Molti dei contributi di questo volume hanno come oggetto della loro analisi l’opera di Walter Benjamin, perché il pensatore tedesco si è posto al crocevia di una serie di correnti di pensiero del Novecento che spesso si intersecano tra di loro, ma che, ancor più spesso, sono tra di loro in contraddizione. Egli ha compreso infatti il rapporto «segreto» e «asimmetrico» che esiste tra teologia e politica. Tale rapporto teorico è divenuto oggi drammaticamente attuale attraverso una serie di eventi teorici e pratici che hanno messo in discussione secolari certezze.
Il libro pubblica gli atti del convegno internazionale, tenutosi a Roma nel novembre del 2003 e organizzato dall’Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, dalla Heinrich-Heine Universität di Düsseldorf, dal Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie di Karlsruhe e dal Goethe-Institut di Roma. La versione tedesca dei contributi presenti in questo volume è uscita nel 2005 presso la casa editrice Erich Schmidt di Berlino. Questo volume in italiano pubblica anche i contributi dei giovano dottori di ricerca che hanno partecipato alla tavola rotonda all’interno del convegno.
Il libro si articola in una prima parte, che affronta il tema in termini generali, e in tre sezioni. La prima parte teorica pubblica i contributi di Mauro Ponzi, Giorgio Agamben, Giacomo Marramao e Irving Wohlfarth. La prima sezione: Walter Benjamin e la teologia politica del moderno, presenta i saggi di Vittoria Borsò, Donatella Di Cesare, Detlev Schöttker, Thomas Rentsch, Sigrid Weigel, Gabriele Guerra, Dario Gentili, Elettra Stimilli, Tamara Tagliacozzo, Gianfranco Bonola e Arno Münster. La seconda sezione: Teologia e politica: strategie di scrittura, raccoglie i saggi di Bernd Witte, Siegfried Zielinski, Elio Matassi, Peter Weibel e Boris Groys. La terza sezione: Teologia politica oggi, raccoglie ngli interventi di Joseph Joblin, Moshe Zimmermann, Justo Lacunza Balda, Mohamed Mzoughi e Karl Ivan Solibakke

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Can grants affect student performance? Evidence from five Italian universities
No full textThis paper assesses the effect of need-based grants on the performance of university students in Italy. We performed a series of between-universities and within-universities propensity score matching analyses to evaluate the effect of grants on several student performance indicators, such as dropout rate, first year credits and efficiency of study. Our findings suggest that financial aid has a positive, substantial and statistically robust effect on university students’ performance and on if and when they complete their undergraduate degree courses. The positive impact is heterogeneous across universities, while few differences were detected for subgroups of students. Reinforcing financial aid policies can simultaneously help disadvantaged students and improve overall academic performance in Italian universities
