Phytochemical profiling and evaluation of the pharmacological effects of the Chinese herbal decoction Huang Lian Jie Du Tang
No full textDie chinesische Dekoktmischung Huang Lian Jie Du Tang wird in der Traditionellen Chinesischen Medizin als Dekokt zur Vertreibung von Hitze und Toxitität verwendet. In der westlichen Medizin wird sie bei entzündlichen Magen-Darm Erkrankungen, Ekzemen und Hauterkrankungen sowie psychischen Erkrankungen verwendet. Die Dekoktmischung besteht aus unterschiedlichen Anteilen der folgenden Einzeldrogen: Radix Scutellariae, Fructus Gardeniae, Rhizoma Coptidis und Cortex Phellodendri.Im Rahmen der vorgelegten Dissertation wurden das phytochemische Profil der Dekoktmischung, sowie deren pharmakologische Effekte in Bezug auf Entzündungshemmung, untersucht. Dekokte der Einzeldrogen und der Kräutermischung wurden erstellt und mittels Flüssig-Flüssig Chromatographie mit n-Heptan, Dichlormethan, Ethylacetat und n-Butanol extrahiert. Die so gewonnenen Extrakte, sowie die verbleibenden wässrigen Rückstände wurden mittels Dünnschichtchromatographie, HPLC-DAD und LC-MS analysiert. Die anschließende Datenauswertung sowie eine Cluster Analyse führten zur Charakterisierung des phytochemischen Profils der Kräutermischung Huang Lian Jie Du Tang. Die gewonnenen Ergebnisse tragen in Zukunft wesentlich zu Qualitätssicherung des Kräuterdekoktes bei.Die, bei der Flüssig-Flüssig Extraktion, gewonnenen Extrakte und wässrigen Rückstände wurden zusätzlich auf ihre entzündungshemmenden Wirkungen gegen COX-1, COX-2, LTB4 Bildung und NO Produktion untersucht. Die entzündungshemmende Aktivität der Kräutermischung durch Inhaltsstoffe, wie z.B. Baicalein, aus den Einzeldrogen konnte bestätigt werden. Untersuchung der Extrakte mittels XTT Test in CCRF-CEM leukämischen Zellen sowie MRC-5 Lungenfibroblasten zeigte dass die untersuchten Proben nur sehr geringen Einfluss auf Zellviabilität und Proliferation haben und deshalb keine anti-Krebs Wirkung aufweisen.The Chinese herbal decoction Huang Lian Jie Du Tang is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to clear away heat and relieve toxicity. In western medicine it is used to treat inflammatory diseases of the gastro intestinal tract, skin diseases and psychic disorders. The decoction mixture consists of varying portions of the four single herbs Radix Scutellariae, Fructus Gardeniae, Rhizoma Coptidis and Cortex Phellodendri.During this PhD Thesis, the phytochemical profile of the decoction mixture, as well as its pharmacological effects concerning anti-inflammatory activities were examined. Decoctions of the single herb components as well as of the mixture were prepared and extracted via liquid-liquid extraction with n-heptane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The so gained extracts and the respective water residues were analysed using thin layer chromatography, HPLC-DAD and LC-MS. Interpretation and cluster analysis of the gained data led to the characterisation of the phytochemical profile of Huang Lian Jie Du Tang. The results will further on contribute to quality control of the decoction mixture.The extracts, which were gained via liquid-liquid extraction, as well as the respective water residues were also evaluated concerning their anti-inflammatory activity against COX-1 and COX-2 enzyme activity, LTB4 formation and NO production in vitro. Anti-inflammatory activity of the decoction mixture, caused by constituents such as baicalein, derived from the single drugs, could be confirmed. Additionally, the extracts were analysed using an XTT assay in CCRF-CEM leukaemia cells and MRC-5 lung fibroblasts. Analysis showed that the investigated samples only slightly influenced cell viability and proliferation and therefore, do not posses anti-cancer or cytotoxic activities in these cell lines. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
