First description of myxozoans from Syria: novel records of hexactinomyxon, triactinomyxon and endocapsa actinospore types

freshwater biotopes in Syria were surveyed over an 11 wk period for
myxosporean parasites (Myxozoa). Three types of novel actinospore
stages were identified from 1 host species, Psammoryctides albicola. A
hexactinomyxon was found in 6 P. albicola (7.5%) collected from a
branch of the River Orontes, north of the city of Hama. A
triactinomyxon and an endocapsa were found in single P. albicola
specimens from the Al-Thaurah region of the Euphrates River (Lake
Assad). No oligochaetes collected from Al-Ghab fish farm (Orontes
region) released actinospores during the observation period. The
present study is the first description of myxosporeans, including
actinospore stages, from Syria. The 3 types described herein differ
morphologically and molecularly (18S rDNA) from published records

Development of an Integrated Set of Indicators to Measure the Quality of the Whole Traveller Experience
Get PDFAbstractThe EU project METPEX is developing a measurement tool for the perceived quality of the whole journey experience. Special emphasis is given on the contribution to the overall quality perception from different phases of such experience, from pre-trip information acquisition to the eventual joint use of different services, especially for multimodal trips. Differences among travel means and user groups are investigated as well. Rather than exclusively focusing on public transport, the project also investigates quality issues dealing with other modes, especially walk and bike. Within such framework, the paper presents some sets of indicators distilled through Principal Component Analysis that could be used in different assessment exercises, shortly discusses how such indicators are showing us the different facets of the “quality of transport” concept and identifies future research directions for the project
Refusers and gratifications: The motives and practices of university students who do not participate on Facebook
Get PDFA significant majority of university students in western countries use social media platforms for various reasons as gaining information, staying in contact with friends and family or as way of passing time. In particular Facebook, the most popular social network with over 2 billion monthly users, is an important aspect in everyday practices of university students. The uses and gratifications gained on the platform have been researched in vast amounts. However, there is a small amount of students who do not participate on Facebook and have not been subject to research in scrutiny. Such media resisters actively choose not to be part of the social media platform and the practices it involves. This undergraduate dissertation research aims to find out more about these Facebook resisters. I explore questions concerning the the motives and practices of students who do not use Facebook, the interaction in university life without Facebook and how non-users satisfy the needs and desires users normally satisfied by using Facebook. Within the uses and gratifications approach of researching audiences the audience is described as active, using media to satisfy their personal needs and desires. I apply this approach to non-users of Facebook. By conducting qualitative online questionnaires and a small number of follow up face-to-face interviews with non-Facebook-users, I am likely to find out more about the behaviours, attitudes, feelings of non-users and their reasons of Facebook abstention. My research contributes to existing research about media resisters in general and fills a gap in literature by finding out more about specifically Facebook resisters

The proposed system was developed using Rapid Application Development method, PHP programming language, Code Igniter frameworks, and MySQL database.
