The research aimed to compare caulifl ower growth and production planted at lowland and highland by using organic farming system. The research was single treatment experimentally, which was land height, consisted of highland (Kopeng) and lowland (Ambarawa). The variables were vegetative growth (leaves amount and plant weight) and generative development (fl ower initiation and fl ower weight). The data were analyzed by t-test. The result confi rmed that organic farming will make better lowland caulifl ower vegetative growth but least generative development compare to the highland one. It can be concluded that caulifl ower have the potency of being growth at lowland, even though with least yield. Keywords: lowland, highland, caulifl ower, organic</p

The Effectiveness of Pjbl by Using Reused Paper on Nervous System Concept

No full text
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of project based learning model by using reused paper on neuron system lesson to students learning outcomes in SMA Negeri 1 Pemalang. This study used pretest-posttest control group design. The samples that were used are the third mathematics and scince major of eleventh-graders students (control class) and eleventh-graders of the fourth mathematics and science major (experimental class). The samples were taken by cluster random sampling technique. The results show that the learning outcomes in the experimental class are better than control class. The average of students’ N-gain score in the experimental class was significantly different with control class and it was higher than control class (0,72 > 0,58), the average of experimental’s class psychomotor learning outcomes was classified in the very good category, the experimental’s class affective learning outcomes (environmental care attitude) was significantly different with control class and it was greater than the control class (82> 63). This result is supported by students' and teachers' positive responses of project based learning model by using reused paper. Based on this stufy results, it is concluded that the implementation of project based learning model by using reused paper was effectively optimizing students learning outcomes on neuron system material

The Use of Science Reflective Journal Writing by JAS Approach to Train Students Metacognitive Ability

This research aims to train students’ metacognitive ability used Science Reflective Journal Writing by JAS approach on the material of reproductive system. This type of research was One shot case study which was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang. The subjects of this research were students of grade XI MIA 4 and XI MIA 5. The Independent variable of this research was Science reflective journal writing in problem-based learning by JAS approach, while dependent variables were metacognitive ability, activity and students’ cognitive learning results. The students’ metacognitive ability was measured by using observation sheets of students’ activity, discussion assessment sheets, and post-test questions. The results of analysis showed that the use of science reflective journal writing has good influence to train the students’ metacognitive ability. The students’ metacognitive ability of SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang was included in good category which is 76% , it also gave an influence to cognitive learning result with mastery learn classical ≥ 75% and student activity with a range of 62.51% - 81.25% classified as active. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the students’ metacognitive ability at SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang for reproductive system material classified as good on the aspects of describing, interpreting, evaluating, planning, and also has good influence to the activity and students’ cognitive learning results on the material of reproductive system

Acute Toxicity of Tomato Extract (Lycopersicum esculentum) on Rat’ Liver

Tomato extract (Lycopersicum esculentum) is commonly used as traditional medicine because of its antioxidant activity. As a traditional medicine, tomato extract uses for therapy. Therefore, it is important to note that the safety aspect does not cause toxic effects. This study aimed to determine the acute toxicity of tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) extract on the liver of Sprague Dawley rats (SD) by looking at the activity of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alacaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GTP) and features liver organ histopathology. Acute toxicity test was carried out by giving tomato extract orally in doses of 16, 160, 1600 and 16000 mg/ individual. Toxicity observations were carried out within 14 days after administration. The activities of AST, ALT, ALP and GGT were analyzed using Diasys kit for research purpose. The results showed that the activity of AST, ALT, ALP and GGT was not significantly different in the treatment group with the control group (p<0.05) and histopathology found some changes in cell structure and tissue in the liver organ but this change did not indicate the occurrence of toxic damage. The conclusion of this study is that no acute toxic effects were found from tomato extract (Lycopersicum esculentum) on SD rats. Keywords: acute toxicity, tomato extract, liver histopatholog

Utilization of Phytochemical Content of Nipah Leaf Extract in the Coastal Area of Indonesia

No full text
Nypa fruticans Wurmb or ‘nipa’ is a palm plant that includes mangrove commodities, found along the mouths of tropical and subtropical rivers. Nipah forests in Indonesia are spread on the coast of the islands of Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. Coastal communities in Indonesia usually use nipah as an ingredient in traditional medicine, food coloring, to various handicrafts. The main phytochemical composition of nipah is polyphenols, phenolics, alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, and saponins. Therefore, the knowledge and utilization of this nipah plant need to be sought and studied more deeply to optimize its utilization. This study aims to find out the utilization of the phytochemical composition of nipah leaf extract on the coast of Indonesia. The results of the literature study on the phytochemical content of nipa leaves and their use have the potential as traditional medicine, and can act as antioxidants, antidiabetics, antimicrobials (antifungals and antibacterials), anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic. In addition to medicine, nipah plants are also used as roofs, livestock pens, or huts in gardens, brooms, handicrafts, fishing gear, as food coloring, as a source of food and beverages, to renewable energy fuel sources

The food industry is one of the commodities that always grows and develops in line with the increasing needs and demands of the market. The growth in demand for fermented foods in the market is due in part to the increased interest in healthy food and the awareness of consumers' perceptions that fermentation is a naturally beneficial process. The ferementation process is inseparable from the role of probiotic microorganisms, bioactive compounds, and micronutrients produced through microbial action. This literature review study aims to analyze the role of probiotics in the fermentation of typical foods in Java, which have the potential to act as an immune regulatory system. The results of a literature study on various kinds of fermented specialties in Java and the manufacturing process show that the microbes that play a role in food fermentation consist of mold and bacteria. These microbes have the potential as an immune regulatory system. Â
