Antenatal Care Provided and its Quality in Field Clinics in Gampaha District, Sri Lanka
A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in the Gampaha District in Sri Lanka to assess the quality of care provided at antenatal field clinics. Checklists were used to assess the structure and process attributes of quality. An interviewer administered questionnaire assessed the quality of information provided to the clients and client satisfaction. The findings indicated that several resource components need upgrading in the district. The majority of clinics did not have adequate seating arrangements, lacked a footstool, a height measuring instrument and Vitamin C. Less than 50% of the staff were present at 8.00 a.m. in eight clinics. Health education material was substandard in nine clinics. No supervisory notes were made during the preceding year in fourteen clinics. Testing urine for sugar and albumin was substandard in 11 and eight clinics, respectively. Physical examination of pregnant females was substandard in all 20 clinics. No information was provided on some routine procedures carried out at the clinic such as blood pressure monitoring, weight gain and vaccines given. Client satisfaction exceeded 95% in all aspects except building and infrastructure and time spent at the clinic. No Full Tex

As for the middle of the poem to the end, the poet turns to the consolation (Ta’ziyah) of his children’s death, as he reflects on the reality of life and death, the poet declares that death is inevitable for every human being that he must accept it and let it go, which the poet portrayed in the exciting narrative style. The story is divided into three stories: the zebra, the bull of the beast, and the two knights.</jats:p
P2-247 Impact of risk factors for non-fatal acute myocardial infarctions among Sri Lankans
Introduction The impact of risk factors for acute myocardial infarctions (AMI) differs across populations. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of established risk factors for the occurrence of non-fatal AMI within a population based case control study of urban Sri Lankans.
Methods Cases were patients consecutively admitted to the cardiology and general medical wards of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka with a confirmed diagnosis of AMI and discharged alive. Age and sex matched community controls were recruited within 20–30 km distance from National Hospital of Sri Lanka using the electoral lists. Basic demographic information, smoking habits, physical activity and dietary patterns, anthropometric indices, fasting glucose and serum lipid measurements were done on all participants.
Results During the study period, 262 cases and 246 controls were recruited. Of the non-fatal acute myocardial infarct patients, 18% were female. Compared to males, females with non-fatal events were significantly older (58 years, SD 6.6). Mean age among cases and controls were similar (∼54 years). Cases were significantly more likely to have diabetes mellitus, a family history of AMI, abnormalities in lipid profile and report poor vegetable and fruit consumption (consumption was defined as “poor” if the individual did not usually consume some fruit/vegetable at least once on a given day). Physical activity patterns, education level and smoking habits were similar between cases and controls.
Conclusion Results indicate a high prevalence of modifiable risk factors among AMI patients. It is vital that the health system identify these patients early and provide them with optimal treatment. No Full Tex
Anti-tuberculosis drug inducd hepatitis – a Sri Lankan experience
OBJECTIVE: To assess the incidence of anti-tuberculosis (TB) drug induced hepatitis (AIH) in Sri Lankan patients, determine risk factors of AIH, and to address management options in AIH. DESIGN: A prospective study. SETTING: Chest Hospital, Welisara, Sri Lanka, from April 2001 to April 2002. PATIENTS: Seven hundred and eighty three patients with a confirmed diagnosis of TB and resident in the Colombo and Gampaha districts who presented to Chest Hospital, Welisara, Sri Lanka. METHODS: WHO recommended treatment was commenced in all cases. AIH was diagnosed when patients complained of decreased appetite with nausea or vomiting and elevated serum bilirubin (SB; >1.1 mg/dL) or elevated serum alanine transferase (ALT; > 3 times upper limit of normal). RESULTS: Of 783 enrolled patients, 74 (9.5%) developed AIH, the majority (58%) developing AIH within the first 2 weeks of the intensive phase of treatment. AIH was more common among patients over 60 years (p = 0.018), who developed pulmonary TB (p = 0.028), and in patients weighing 33-55 kg (p = 0.004). Age, weight and rifampicin overdosage were significant predictors of AIH. Of the 74 AIH patients, standard treatment was restarted in 60, treatment modified in six, two defaulted and six died. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of AIH in Sri Lanka is 9.5% in treated patients. AIH was associated with age, low body weight and rifampicin overdosage.Full Tex

The research results are; Librarians are not yet fully able to become information managers at UIN Ar-Raniry Main Library of Banda Aceh, due the small number of librarians for this size of a college library. Lack of librarian contribution to be- come information manager, in order to be able to fulfill requirement of information for their users, in this case undergraduate student of Library Science. Statistical analyses to validate the WHO/ISH risk prediction charts for Sri Lanka
The WHO/ISH (WHO/ International Society of Hypertension) risk prediction charts have been used widely by South East Asian Countries. The WHO/ISH risk prediction charts provide approximate estimates of cardiovascular risk in people who do not have established coronary heart disease, stroke or other atherosclerotic diseases. Based on the 10-year risk of fatal or non-fatal major cardiovascular events according to age, gender, smoking status, systolic blood pressure, presence or absence of diabetes and total serum cholesterol level. However, it has not been validated for the Sri Lankan population. Thus this study was initiated to validate the above mentioned WHO/ISH risk prediction chart for cardiovascular diseases using the database maintained at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya for 10 years (2007 - 2017). The major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases are age, gender, higher blood sugar level and higher systolic blood pressure when considered individual effect on cardiovascular(CV) diseases from each risk factor. In both risk prediction methods (risk prediction with serum cholesterol readings and without serum cholesterol readings), the majority of the population had a <10% risk of a fatal or non-fatal cardiovascular event. Risk of cardiovascular diseases in the same population increased with age. Males had a significantly higher cardiovascular risk than females. The risk classification using total serum cholesterol was a better prediction chart than the one without it
Teacher Candidates' opinions about Augmented Reality(AR) as a supplemental educational tool
This poster was presented by Alam, I., Teacher Candidates' opinions about Augmented Reality(AR) as a supplemental educational tool. Presented at 10th Annual Graduate and Professional Student Conference, held at Memorial Union, Ames, IA, April 6 2022. Posted with permission. In recent years, augmented reality (AR) technology has been widely proposed as innovative technology. AR technology superimposes digitally simulated information on the physical environment, which can be a unique element for learning experiences. Despite the potential of AR, there has been relatively little integration of AR into the
classroom. The purpose of this pilot study is to examine the acceptance and intentional use of AR technology by teacher candidates and their opinions of AR as a supplemental educational tool. The study has utilized a phenomenological design that is comprised of System Usability Scale survey and interview questions. Based on the participants' answers, research data has been analyzed and discussed
