Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Pengaruh Jenis Sumbu Dan Konsentrasi Nutrisi Terhadap Sawi Samhong (Brassica juncea L.) Dengan Hidroponik Sistem Sumbu
The wick system is a hydroponic by utilizing the principle of capillarity of nutrient solutions that are absorbed by plant roots through the wick. Flannelette is a material that has the best water absorption and can be used as a wick, another alternative is stove wick. The concentration of nutrients given to plants must also be in needs. Samhong mustard is a type of mustard in the same class as pakcoy. This study aims to determine the effect of the type of wick and nutrient concentration on plant height, number of leaves, and plant weight using hydroponic wick system. The research method was carried out using two independent variables, namely the type of wick consisting of flannelette (S1) and stove wick (S2), and the nutrients concentration consisting of N1 (1,000 ppm), N2 (1,200 ppm), and N3 (1,400 ppm). The measurements results were compared using the Anova two-factorial design test with a level of 5%, and if the results were significantly different, then continued with the BNJ test at a significant level of 5%. The results showed that there was an effect of using different types of wicks and nutrient concentrations on the measurement results of samhong mustard. Flannel wick (S1) has better effect than the stove wick (S2), and the concentration of N1 nutrients has better effect than the concentrations of N2 and N3, with average plant height is 27.9 cm, average number of leaves are 18.8 strands, and the average plant weight is 128.6 g
Aplikasi Sistem Hidroponik NFT pada Budidaya Tanaman Tomat (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.)
Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) hydroponic is a model of hydroponic cultivation of plants by placing the roots in a shallow water layer. The water is circulated so as to resemble thin films and contains nutrients needed by plants. Movement of nutrient solution circulation but because of the encouragement of the pump, is also caused by the slope of the gutter pipes are used. Increasingly steep slope will create ripples that nutrient solution has the opportunity to add oxygen from the air. Oxygen is required for respiration in the roots that will produce energy, which is used to absorb water and nutrients. Thus, the efficiency of nutrient uptake will be high and production will increase. Therefore, in this study the slope of the gutter pipe that will be used is 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the slope of the gutter pipe on the growth and production of tomato plants. Analysis used to determine whether there is difference in the growth and production of different crops on slopes is ANOVA (Analysis of variances) in one direction because there is only one independent variable, followed by a test of Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) at 5% significance level. The results showed that there are differences in average growth and production of tomato plants using NFT gutter pipe slope is different. NFT gutter pipe slope is most excellent effect on plant growth (plant height) and the production of tomato plants (number of bunches of flowers per plant, number of fruits per cluster of flowers, and weight per fruit) is on a slope of 7%. The results for each crop is average plant height 176.5 cm, the average number of bunches of flowers per plant of 6.2, the average number of fruits per flower cluster 4.8 and an average weight of 45.2 g per fruit of tomato. Potensi Air Leri sebagai Pupuk Organik untuk Pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) dengan Hidroponik DFT Model Meja
Leri water is rice washing wastewater which has been only thrown away by the community, is easily produced or obtained every day, and can be used as organic fertilizer in plant cultivation. This study aims to determine the potential of leri water as organic fertilizer for pakcoy plants with table model DFT hydroponics. This research method was carried out using three nutrient solution treatments, namely leri water (N1), leri water + AB mix with a ratio of 1:1 (N2), and AB mix (N3). The results of the measurement of the number of leaves (strands), plant height (cm), and plant weight (g) in the three nutrient solution treatments were compared to determine whether there was a difference using one-way ANOVA with a level of 5%. If the results are significantly different, then proceed with the Tukey's HSD test at the 5% level. The results showed that leri water has the potential as a liquid organic fertilizer when added to AB mix fertilizer, with a ratio of 1:1 (N2) can increase the weight of pakcoy plants by four times the yield of N1
