Citation: Fritch, Melia Erin (2018) "Teaching as a Political Act: Critical Pedagogy in Library Instruction," Educational Considerations: Vol. 44: No. 1. https://doi.org/10.4148/0146-9282.1868This article establishes a theoretical framework for critical library instruction (and thereby critical information literacy) that is built upon critical feminist theory, critical race theory, and engaged pedagogy, among others. Using the ideas and work of theorists to create a path linking the ideas of critical analyses together, the author demonstrates the importance and need for critical information literacy within library instruction to empower students, creating opportunities for lifelong learning. Noted within the article are the obstacles for librarians who focus on feminist engaged pedagogy in their teaching; however, the author shares with readers that the challenge is in fact worth the struggle. Overall, the article presents a theoretical foundation for the author’s call to action – it’s time for librarians to move forward as teachers-as-activists roles and use library instruction as a transformation into a lifelong learning experience for students

Nothing is Permanent but Change: The Journey to Consolidation and Back

Responding to a staffing shortage and assessment of usage data, eight of Hale Library's nine service desks were consolidated into one service point. Fourteen months later, the Libraries conducted an assessment of the consolidation using reference transaction data, responses to a survey administered to Libraries’ staff, and responses from a student focus group. The assessment revealed many logistical and staffing challenges with the new desk. As a result, a separate service point for reference was created directly outside the consolidated desk. Our statistics indicate that this was a successful change

Species delimitation of Melia dubia Cav. from Melia azedarach L. complex based on DNA barcoding

The genus Melia L., which belongs to the â Mahoganyâ family Meliaceae, is a source of important phytochemicals with marked medicinal properties. Species identification in Melia is complex due to the existence of overlapping morphological features. Though Melia dubia Cav. is listed as a synonym of Melia azedarach L., it is not clear from the available literature whether they are the same species or different, and the species complexity still remains unresolved. In the present study, ten accessions of M. dubia and M. azedarach were analysed by DNA barcoding using three chloroplast DNA markers (rbcL, matK, and trnH-psbA), and one nuclear marker (ITS2). Intra-specific divergence was not found in any of the four markers. However, the inter-specific divergence between M. azedarach and M. dubia ranged between 0.3% (rbcL) and 4.7% (ITS2) for individual markers, and for the combined dataset, it was 8.5%. Among the four markers, ITS2 was found to be the most suitable marker for differentiating M. azedarach and M. dubia. Parsimony analysis of the DNA barcoding data showed a clear segregation between M. azedarach and M. dubia as distinct monophyletic clades in all the markers, except the rbcL marker. Our results based on Bayesian analysis of the concatenated dataset strongly support the view that M. dubia be considered a distinct species; not a synonym of M. azedarachThe accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page. Many large-scale improved cooking stove systems has been introduced in various developing countries to replace existing obsolete conventional biomass cooking stoves. Improved cooker stoves are one with higher performance and lower emissions. In this work, two solid biomass fuels such as Melia dubia and Casuarina are investigated on dry basis in a regular forced stove micro-gasifier. The effect of the Melia dubia and Casuarina fuel on thermal efficiency and emission reduction of the forced stove micro-gasifier is analysed using Water Boiling Test-4.2.3. The experimental results revealed that the thermal efficiency of the micro-gasifier stove for the fuel Melia dubia and Casuarina is 42% and 40% respectively. The fuel consumption of the micro-gasifier stove is estimated for the fuel Melia dubia is 86 g/l and Casuarina 90 g/l. The carbon monoxide and particulate matter emission Melia dubia is slightly lesser compared to the Casuarina. Emissions of carbon monoxide and particulate matter are detected for Melia dubia at 22 ppm and 0.05 mg/m3 and for Casuarina at 25 ppm and 0.07 mg/m3. Efficiency and emission values for selected fuels Melia dubia and Casuarina have shown promising results for the selected micro-gasifier.The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. No full text
Innside by Melia Yogyakarta is a 4-star business and leisure hotel owned by PT. Saraswanti Indoland Development. Melia Hotels International operates this brand. In 2018-2019, Innside by Melia Yogyakarta experienced a relatively rapid increase in revenue. However, the General Manager of Innside by Melia Yogyakarta and the Directors of PT Saraswanti Indoland Development are still not satisfied with the hotel's current performance because their revenue is still inferior to competing hotels in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. To improve hotel performance, the target market will be focused on leisure travelers. The target market's choice is due to the more significant number of leisure travelers heading to Yogyakarta than business travelers. However, the social media platform owned by Innside by Melia Yogyakarta, which will attract leisure travelers, also does not have a good performance. In terms of social media problems belonging to Innside by Melia Yogyakarta, the author conducts various analyses and continues with formulating marketing strategies until the right solution is found and its implementation. The analysis used is an external analysis using the PESTEL, Competitor Analysis, and an internal analysis using the VRIO, Segmentation, Targeting, and Positioning (STP). The analysis's objective is to identify the situation that occurs outside and inside the Innside by Melia Yogyakarta. The next step is a survey to find out more about leisure travelers' preferences visiting the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The survey was made based on the customer experience's digital journey while staying at Innside by Melia Yogyakarta and hotels in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. There are six stages of the customer experience journey: the awareness/inspiration stage; research/consideration stage; decision-making stage; preparation stage; in-hotel experience stage; and loyalty advocacy stage. The survey results were processed quantitatively and analyzed descriptively.Based on the survey results, the root of the problem lies in customers' low awareness/inspiration towards Innside by Melia Yogyakarta's social media. The majority of customers can be aware of Innside by Melia Yogyakarta with a vertical marketing system. The solution to this problem is sought by using the Repositioning and New Wave Marketing strategy to create a horizontal marketing system on Innside by Melia Yogyakarta's social media. Each alternative solution is systematically compiled on the customer journey map. Then, recommendations for social media content were made to implement the strategy. Keywords: Hotel, Digital Marketing, Customer Experience Journey, Repositioning, New Wave Marketin

The bast of Melia azedarach LINN.or "Sendan" has been commonly used as an anthelminthic for tape-worms and round-worms, and tests have shown that it has been successful in 19.1 per-cent of the cases in which it was used. Although very little research has been done in this field,Nakabayashi(1952) pointed out that the anthelminthic constituent in Melia azedarach L.,var, japonica MAKINO,probably belongs to the coumarin group. The first step in studying the anthelminthic properties of this bast is to analyze it qualitatively and quantitatively and to discover its composition. The author has\n analyzed the bast oil and his method sofanalysis and conclusions are reported.Phloem from Melia azedarach LINN.was dried in the air, powdered, and used as a sample for this research.1.39.5 grams of oil were obtained from 5,052 grams of powdered bast by ether abstraction. This oil belongs to the drying-oil group. 2.Upon saponification, the fatty acids separated from the oil contained 6.72 per-cent solid acid and 93.28 per-cent liquid acid. The solid acid was made up of\n palmitic acid and stearic acid whereas the liquid acid consisted of linoleic acid and oleic acid. 3.The unsaponificiable substance became white needle shaped crystals and had a melting point between 120℃.to 121℃.Acetylation with acetic acid produced beautiful needle shaped crystals of different structure. These were refined by recrystallization three times and were found to have a melting point of 133℃. It is the hypothesis of the author that this substance is phytosterine but more research must be carried out before any final conclusion can be made.紀要論
