No full textThis draft is the first attempt to establish a UK MARC specifically for Archives and Manuscripts Control since the British Library indicated that it would countenance such extensions to the national UK MARC format. In order to keep consistency with the general UK MARC format, standard UK MARC subject fields are not included in this document, since they should be taken from the latest version of the UK MARC manual. {A note of them should perhaps be included in UK MARC AMC.} {NB Text in braces is intended to be explanatory material for readers of this draft}. Certain other fields have not been included that might occasionally be used in the cataloguing of archival materials but would generally only be used for such materials in organizations which were combining archive
databases with library databases. This MARC version is intended for use with descriptions of archive or anuscript material that follow, or fit, the traditional style of cataloguing: we assume that these will normally relate
to paper or parchment originals. It is not intended for use with descriptions of other kinds of material. For these, fields may be drawn from the appropriate UK MARC document. MARC versions for use with archives in special formats should be developed, in order to complete the full range of facilities available to archivists and curators
An extended and unified modeling framework for benchmark dose estimation for both continuous and binary data
No full textProtection and safety authorities recommend the use of model averaging to determine the benchmark dose approach as a scientifically more advanced method compared with the no-observed-adverse-effect-level approach for obtaining a reference point and deriving health-based guidance values. Model averaging however highly depends on the set of candidate dose–response models and such a set should be rich enough to ensure that a well-fitting model is included. The currently applied set of candidate models for continuous endpoints is typically limited to two models, the exponential and Hill model, and differs completely from the richer set of candidate models currently used for binary endpoints. The objective of this article is to propose a general and wide framework of dose response models, which can be applied both to continuous and binary endpoints and covers the current models for both type of endpoints. In combination with the bootstrap, this framework offers a unified approach to benchmark dose estimation. The methodology is illustrated using two data sets, one with a continuous and another with a binary endpoint

Servitization in the power-two-wheeler industry : comparability and transferability of out-of-industry service solutions
No full textThe thesis explores the comparability and transferability of service solutions of non-power-two-wheeler industries into the motorcycle industry. The power-two-wheeler industry is facing the challenge of integrating and offering value adding services for customers that trigger increases in revenue. Most of the related industries, like automotive, face the same challenge but have different levels of capacity and resources available for the development of new offers, while the power-two-wheeler industry is limited in these factors. This further increases the need for ways of new ways of determining meaningful and high potential avenues for service-product integration and development. Additional pressures are created by a slowing in market growth, requiring the establishment of new revenue streams. The thesis establishes and practically exercises an additional way for determining the most comparable set of industries to the power-two-wheeler industry and the process of develop transferable solutions that match the basic characteristics of the industry. The process is a cascade of steps narrowing down matching products and industries and finally contrasting these with research generated general criteria for successful implementation and type of services
Neural recording and stimulation of dissociated hippocampal cultures using microfabricated three-dimensional tip electrode array
No full textThere is increasing interest in interfacing dissociated neuronal cultures with planar multielectrode arrays (MEAs) for the study of the dynamics of neuronal networks. Here we report on the successful use of three-dimensional tip electrode arrays (3D MEAs), originally developed for use with brain slices, for recording and stimulation of cultured neurons. We observed that many neurons grew directly on protruding electrode surface, appearing to make excellent contact. A larger than usual portion of extracellular spikes had large positive peaks, while most of the spikes from conventional two-dimensional electrode arrays had large negative spikes. This may be due to the direct capacitive coupling situation provided by relatively large electrode surface area. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
