White empty Earth: photography and the imagined world
My use of photography is rooted in the complexities of the photograph, its making, meaning and function. Human understanding and perception of the physical world (as Landscape and Nature) are sole concerns as I address the ambivalence that coincides with these ideas and the space in between. Can one achieve a work that illuminates both personally and collectively, privately and socially? By photographing constructed environments in the studio, can I challenge the photograph as "document" and the environment as fundamentally separate from human? With this work, I am hoping to accomplish several things through a hermeneutic based exploration: An engagement in a meditative, slow process, the revealing of a mindful, personal space,a deeper understanding of the environment and my place in it and the capability, functionality, conscious/unconscious uses of and meaning in photography and the photograph and, lastly, how the image affects human consciousness of and relationship to the physical world.M.F.A.Includes bibliographical references (p. 65)by Colin Jon Edgingto
The Author briefly proposes an adequate interpretation of n. 2 of the recent Notification on the works of Father Jon Sobrino. He provides the context within which this Notification won’t be an obstacle for the development of a firm option for the poor and a supporting theology. Several contributions of Latin American Theology –as well as some Argentine Bishop’s Documents- are based upon a legitimate reflection developed “from” people’s life. In order to defend this option vis à vis the warnings of the Notification, the Author establishes a distinction among “fundamental point of departure” and “unavoidable immediate context”
THE ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF BREASTFEEDING: A REVIEW AND ANALYSIS
A minimum of $3.6 billion would be saved if breastfeeding were increased from current levels (64 percent in-hospital, 29 percent at 6 months) to those recommended by the U.S. Surgeon General (75 and 50 percent). This figure is likely an underestimation of the total savings because it represents cost savings from the treatment of only three childhood illnesses: otitis media, gastroenteritis, and necrotizing enterocolitis. This report reviews breastfeeding trends and previous studies that assessed the economic benefits of breastfeeding.Breastfeeding, economic benefits, otitis media, gastroenteritis, necrotizing enterocolitis, Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety,
Breastfeeding Promotion Research: The ES/WIC Nutrition Education Initiative and Economic Considerations
Educating low-income women about the advantages of breastfeeding their babies increases the number who breastfeed. This report summarizes the results of four projects that focused primarily on promoting breastfeeding, which is considered to be the most healthful and beneficial feeding method for most infants. Research has shown that breastfeeding improves the general health, growth, and development of infants and significantly reduces the risk of several health problems both during early life and in later years. Lower income women have been less likely to breastfeed than higher income women. One step the USDA has taken to promote breastfeeding is the ES/WIC Nutrition Education Initiative. This combines the strengths of two nutrition programs for low-income families, the Cooperative Extension System's Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and the Food and Nutrition Service's Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. This report shows that breastfeeding education before delivery increases the initiation of breastfeeding among low-income women. The results also indicate that breastfeeding support soon after delivery increases the duration of breastfeeding.Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety,
Anamaria Babiaș-Ciobanu, "Jon Fosse and the New Theatre", Cluj Napoca: Școala Ardeleană, 2020, 330 p.
Jon Fosse and the New Theatre is the title of an ample research on the Norwegian author, done by PhD student Anamaria Babiaș-Ciobanu (b. 1987). She held her public defence in Philology in 2018, under the supervision of Professor Sanda Tomescu Baciu, at the Faculty of Letters, Babeș-Bolyai University, followed by the publication of the present volume, based on the PhD thesis with the same title. Prior to this she also translated Jon Fosse’s Shadows (Skuggar) into Romanian, under the title Umbre (Casa Cărții de Știință, 2015). Furthermore, Babiaș-Ciobanu has published several corresponding articles in the academic journal Studia Universitatis Babeș-Bolyai Philologia: “A Short Example of Jon Fosse’s Dramaturgy. Play Sov du vesle barnet mitt” (vol. 59, no. 1, pp. 87-99, 214) or ”From Ibsen to Beckett: Aspects of the Human Condition” (vol. 60, no.1, pp. 133-147, 2015). Her MA thesis tackles the theme of the latter article and her BA thesis was focused on Norwegian dramaturgy as well: “Løgn og sannhet i Ibsens Vildanden” (The Concepts of Lie and Truth in Ibsen\u27s The Wild Duck). Thus, Babiaș-Ciobanu has displayed a continuous interest in this field and has extensively contributed to spreading the Fosse’an universe on Romanian soil
