Occasional Writing of Intellectuals in the Late Ming Dynasty—Exemplified by Wei-chen Lee.
[[abstract]]With Wei-Chen Lee as the main research subject, this research probes into the relation between the author and his literature artifact with social cultural aspect of the “writing behavior” again and attempt to break through the traditional limitation of interpreting the author’s “motion of creativity ” with “literature masterpieces” by adding the complexity and diversity of social culture of Ming-Qing dynasty to include the interaction between man and society into the interpretation of “writing”.
Through the author’s writing strategies of courtesy works, this study reviews the role of the scholars in the Ming-Qing dynasty with the discussions focusing especially on “prefaces”, “birthday-congratulating literatures”, and “epitaphs and family records” to reflect the two options encountered by the scholars as writing: “courtesy” or “casualty”. This study also presents Wei-Chen Lee’s life story and social affairs for analysis and validity of time. Individual cultures of presentations of each courtesy writings are discussed in the following chapters, which include the difference between poetry prefaces of literature ranks and consumer stimulating commercial prefaces under the influence of the rise and falls of the publication market; evolution of birthday-congratulating prefaces written for acquaintances and written for strangers, and the “traditional pattern” background derived to cope for solicitations; how family records and epitaphs manipulate “fame after death”, and how merchants’ images were reconstructed through biographies. This research reviews Wei-Chen Lee’s literary position with his writing strategies, outlining a new aspect of the cultural activities of scholars in the late Ming dynasty.[[note]]碩

The random walk hypothesis revisited: evidence from the 16 OECD stock prices
Abstract Using 16 OECD stock price indices data, this paper revisits the random walk hypothesis by inspecting the degree of persistence of stock prices. We adopt two recently developed econometric procedures, due to Citation: Shyh -Wei Chen and Chung-Hua Shen, (2009) ''The random walk hypothesis revisited: evidence from the 16 OECD stock prices''
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
MIR spiral fourier transform spectrometer
In recent years, on-chip integrated spectrometers have attracted much attention due to their broad application prospects in the fields of environmental monitoring, biological analysis, and gas detection. Since many chemical bonds have unique mid-infrared fingerprints, the mid-infrared band plays an important role in sample detection. However, traditional infrared spectrometers require larger optical components and high-precision mechanical components to implement. Manufacture and adjustment of these elements and components require considerable time and cost, and make the spectrometer large in size and weight. But the emergence of silicon photonics provides a new idea for the miniaturisation of devices. Silicon photonics is a technology that uses silicon wafer technology to fabricate micron-scale photonic devices and realise photonic chips. It has many advantages, including low loss, high speed, easy fabrication and integration. These advantages make silicon photonics a useful technology for miniaturised mid-infrared spectrometers. Compared with traditional spectrometers, miniature infrared spectrometers have the advantages of small size, light weight, fast response and low power consumption. They are portable and can perform real-time non-destructive measurements, which can make infrared spectral analysis more convenient, efficient and flexible. In this thesis, based on the working principle of the thermo-optic effect, three silicon waveguide based thermo-optic Fourier transform spectrometers (FTS) are proposed. The devices are designed and demonstrated on a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafer platform. Among them, the first and second designs are based on a single Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure that uses heaters in both arms of the MZI to perform thermo-optic modulation of the optical path difference. Their working centre wavelengths are 1.55 μm and 3.8 μm respectively. The third design combines thermo-optic tuning with the design concept of ”digital” FTS, to create a higher resolution spectrometer with a 3.8 μm centre wavelength. The resolution of the spectrometer is improved by integrating thermo-optic switches that can select between multiple fixed path lengths, in order to increase the range of optical path difference adjustability in the MZI. All three designs have been experimentally confirmed to successfully retrieve the spectra of single-wavelength laser sources in the working wavelength range. The resolution can reach 9 nm/(6.2 cm−1) and 4 nm/(2.7 cm−1) respectively. Finally, a new design for compact waveguide spirals will be introduced. This new design increases the coupling length between two waveguides adjacent to each other, by introducing a difference in the widths of the two waveguides. In this way, for the same length of the spiral waveguide, the gap between adjacent waveguides can be reduced without introducing additional coupling loss. This paves the way for further reduction of both the size and power consumption of future spectrometers
The Writings of Kinship, Love, and Marriage in the Military Compound Novels of Su Wei-chen
Su Wei-chen arose in the Taiwanese literary world following\ue3\ue9\uaa\ue4\ubb\ue4\ub8\ue6\uae\ub5\ue3and was active during the 1970s-1980s. She has won various literary awards. She specializes in writing on the theme of love. Moreover, she grew up in Taiwan's military Dependents' Villages, and thus her work thereof cannot be neglected. This paper will focus on,\ue3\ue6\ue7\ub7\ua3\ue5\ue9\ue3and\ue3\ue9\ua2\ue9\ue5\ue6\ub9\ue3, two novels representative of the family members in such a village and a discussion on the themes of intimacy and marriage.
The second chapter of the paper is an introduction, which explains the motivation behind the research, the expected research results, and the research objectives. This outline is followed by highlighting Su Wen-chen's work as the focus of the research, a literature review regarding relevant research, and stating the research methods of this paper.
The third chapter is about Su Wei-chen's literary creation process; this explores theimages of the father, the mother, and the children in the novels of Su Wei-chen's family. The image of the father is classified in three ways; the disappearing type, the dereliction of duty type, and the fatherly type. The mother is classified into four categories: the traditional feminine virtue type, the strong authority type, the pursuing self-interest type, and the environmental imbalance type. The children are categorized as three kinds: the filial type, the self-reliant type, and the independent precocious type.
The fourth chapter discusses the marriage letters in Su Wei-chen's novels. Using amarital relationship as a precondition, these letters show the possible dilemmas that men and women in the village may encounter in their lives regarding love, divorce, and marriage. These dilemmas may result from the provincial complex, family opposition, the pursuit of ideals, and other various factors. In particular, these letters depict the struggles and efforts of women in marriage and love, accentuating the steadfastness of women and their resilience in life.
The fifth chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the motley characters displayed in Su Wei-chen\ue2s two novels life in the military;dependent\ue2s villages;in particular, the diverse faces and views onlove of mothers and women displayed in the family letters. And finally reveals the valuable and self-awakening significance of women's breakthroughs during life in the military dependents' villages and a chaotic era
